As someone who plays a lot of sustain Champions, the Grevious Wounds from EC feels really unfair.

Basically the title.

I play a fair amount of Champions with inbuilt sustain; namely: Vladimir Swain Gangplank Illaoi Trundle , and a good chunk of junglers.

As Vladimir (who's been reworked in such a way that he's a self-healer first, and a damage-dealer second), I feel really good when I let myself drop to sub-40% health, only to get the ult heal-pop on 2+ champs and my Rush Q, bringing me back up to <70% health.

Oh wait. item 3123 says I don't get 40% of that. Fuck you.

At least with item 3165 I have to be below 40% of my health to begin with to suffer the healing reduction, and you only get the GW when you fully build the item.

item 3123 costs a whopping 800g, and proceeds to completely counter the one thing Vladimir actually does well. It applies on all physical damage, so it's not difficult at all to keep timed up against your opponent and it's very, very easily accessible thanks to the low cost. Well at least it isnt slot efficie...

item 3033

Oh look. Not only do I not get 40% of my healing power, but it also ignores almost half of the armour I've built to help me stay alive.

I know I'm bitching a bit, but seriously. Counterbuilding is one thing, completely shutting down an important part of a Champions kit is another. Imagine if item 3143 reduced crit damage not by 10%, but by 50% - there's a reason it isn't; it'd ruin the Marksman class and other crit-based Champions. AD Champs who build it usually have enough sustained damage output to nullify or even outdamage the advantage that sustain users have through their healing, compared to the majority of Mages who're burstier and/or more telegraphed.

If you're looking for counterplay against sustain champs, here's what I would say counts:

Vladimir : Highly telegraphed and short-ranged Crimson Rush is the majority of his heals, also applies for half against minions. Swain : Mana reliant and provides no "burst-healing", all over time. Gangplank : Using it as a sustain tool to stay topped up will ensure you'll be OoM soon, and you won't have it to escape CC when you might need to. Illaoi : Only counts when you hit champions with very telegraphed and slow tentacles, scales against having higher health. Trundle : Based on killing, rather than just damage-sustaining, also over time rather than "burst-healing" like Swain.

Counterplay against item 3123 ? Don't get hit.

If I were to change the item, I'd reduce the healing reduction down to 20% until you completed item 3033 .

I'm not looking to offend anyone. By all means disagree with me, I encourage it, but please stay civil.

I never actually understood why item 3123 had such a general condition for application

where as item 3165 requires a health condition to be met before it applies

I just always chocked it up to riot's blatant favoritism towards AD as a stat.

On the flipside, I don't understand why the mandatory mage item that almost every single mage needs to build has grievous wounds tacked onto it. It's not as if the mages opt into wanting that capability and have to itemise accordingly (unlike ADCs who now have to choose between more damage vs healthier opponents vs grievous wounds.) It's just there and there's no other option.

As a player who often buys item 3123 early on just to counter these champions... I can only agree here. Just rushing an executioners on Sion Renekton Gangplank Darius and you name it Against these kind of champions reduces their power by a ton, more than spending 800 gold on a sub-optimal item hurts me.

I've hated EC for the unrestricted passive it had that outclassed its ap counter part morellonomicon. Why should a 800g item have a better passive than an item 3-4 times the price. Why doesn't EC have the 40% hp restriction has kinda made me salty when someone buys it against me.

And now it's back to being unfair to healers too!

The only "problem" GW ever solved was people picking bad fights because they underestimated someone's ability to offset their damage and keep them from getting the kill. Riot should have ignored the tears of assassins who refuse to respect the effect heals could have on their favorite 100-0 combo, and let healing abilities have a useful, noticeable impact in the short term.

They could have increased CD or mana gating if it was necessary to keep heal abilities from being as broken in the long term as being able to heal on every autoattack. Except there are already a bunch of items to let people do just that, with no resource or CD restrictions whatsoever...

You mean the item that nobody buys?

I know right counter play sucks.

And complaining about the only item with Grevious wounds for AD champs. And on an item that was made worse in the long run and far more situational.

Its also funny hearing complaints when people wanted this item back.
