On one hand people are complaining about Stopwatch making games longer, and others saying...

Games are too short because of damage, being 15-20 minute fiestas.

Both get upvoted....

Which is it?

At casual levels where 99% of the board plays, games end because single mistakes can lead to fast deaths and snowballs, and single mistakes are more bound to happen.

At higher levels of play, everyone is scared to make the first move and have it fuck over the entire game, so nothing happens. Stopwatch compounds this further, being effectively the "flash" of runes, and responsible for either massive swings, or catastrophic misplays.

See also: Super Smash Bros. (64). Every character can threaten 0-death combos from misspaced attacks, so games often go for long slogs of no one taking the initiative. The game is simultaneously too damage-focused and thus fast, as well as too reliant on safe plays and thus slow.

Both, like Le Kaikai said. They end too fast if you don't have stopwatch, and they stall forever if you do. Which is kind of fucking hilarious for game design, right?

Frontline Fury2/12/2018, 7:25:15 PM8 votes

Both. Stopwatch shouldnt be REQUIRED to force games to artificially last longer than 20 minutes.

Khristophoros2/12/2018, 6:51:45 PM6 votes

I don't think game length is the problem. There are two major problems imo

  1. Damage is too high in a few specific situations, for example:
  • Early game, mostly level 1/2, making level 1 cheese and level 2 all-ins both too influential on the laning phase
  • Carries scale up too fast/easily
  1. Stopwatch creates frustrating scenarios because it's available so early with very little investment so somebody can buy whatever items they want and still have it to turn around tower dives

just because it makes games longer doesn't mean it's good

would you accept to cure your cancer by receiving aids?

Stopwatch was stupid when you could take it along with boots for free. Now that you can only take one it's fine.

ModCaptainMårvelous2/13/2018, 5:56:13 AM5 votes

Stopwatch itself is fine.

Stopwatch being a free rune is not.

Hayaishi2/13/2018, 2:21:48 AM4 votes

stopwatch is a good item that adds complexity to the game.

People are just mad they cant roll their KB for kills like they usually do.

AMYS GRAVE2/12/2018, 11:25:44 PM2 votes

Before stopwatch was introduced damage was too high, that was never fixed and is still a problem. Now stopwatch is a problem that in many ways overshadows the problem we had before. Welcome to Riot's game design where we don't fix issues, just pile new ones over the top so people forget about the old problems that were never fixed.

I haven't heard many people complaining about Stopwatch making games longer... All I've heard is that people hate how often a Stopwatch active will go off during a game now due to its high efficiency.

And even in cases were you see two opposing views being upvoted and voiced, you have to understand that there are a multitude of different people on the internet who all have different ideas. Clearly these opposing views are being voiced by different people, not hypocrites.

Tribbles Foxfolk2/13/2018, 7:23:47 AM1 votes

Both, actually. Damage is running rampant, so instead of reigning it in, we get Stopwatch. Now people are encouraged in every game to play like a single death means the game is over because...Well yeah, a single death DOES mean the game is over! If you saw LCS on the new patch, there was NO action forever. In one game, I think there were less than 10 kills TOTAL by the time the game went to 35-40 minutes. Why? Because every death is worth so much and damage is so cheap to obtain that giving your opponent ANY money and XP that isn't minion/objectives is practically equivalent to throwing the game.

If damage comes down across the board (which I doubt is going to happen since Riot insists on trying to make even pro games end within 25 minutes), then Stopwatch will fall out of favor with it. It would still be a good rune, but it would become much more situational, seeing use primarily against high-burst champions like most Assassins and some Mages (Lux says hi).

(Also since we're on the "What to fix" bandwagon: First Blood Tower needs to go away, gold in general could certainly use some work, ADC items are far too cheap and give too many stats, "late game" is now starting at 15-20 minutes, Kleptomancy cannot be salvaged, and at least a few thousand more things that escape my mind.)

Stopwatch is the most retarded form of way/idea/solution to fix the snowballing/games too short problem of the game.

Stopwatch discourges what this game is......PvP. You wear down your laner, calculate if an all in+ignite will finish off your enemy, but you can't do that cause you see this shit item in their inventory. You blow your CDs/summoner spells for nothing with a very high risk to die yourself cause overall damage is still too high

This retarded item does not provide any combat stats at all, you die just as fast if you don't have it or have it but don't use it.

Both.

Games are too fast due to damage, and stopwatch is a small bandage on a bigger problem. Stopwatch potentially saves people from this damage and prevents snowballing, but because games are too fast due to damage, it, like flash, ends up being taken on almost everyone.

PaffWasTaken2/13/2018, 8:47:36 PM1 votes

Stopwatches aren't making games longer, they are making it even more frustrating and, more often than not, even more one sided

Wînter Fox2/14/2018, 1:35:47 AM1 votes

You make it sound like Stopwatch can't be use offensively.
