How to not get countered when you're playing toplane with first pick
Pick
because they're not toplaners, but they still work in top

but they are toplaners and got counters who can stomp them?
camille can be put in the jg and top and irelia can be put in top, mid, and if you know what you're doing, jg.
Yeah but you need a team for this. Realistically people don't swap roles enough to make flex picking viable in solo queue up until diamond.
Be a 1 trick and learn your bad matchups. Don't be a pussy. First pick your main.
I think
was my highest winrate top lane pick at one point lol
I've always thought the safest first picks for Top are:

Most of their "counters" are generic and not HARD counters. If you pick one of these guys, you have a flexibility that will allow you to not just get stomped because your melee and they have disengage/ranged CC or you are a squishier ranged and they have hard burst. All of these guys have a good bit of safety and can play the early game really safe or aggressive depending on their needs.
Morde beats all of them. Tge only hard champ that would be hard would be jayce. Or you cpuld pick teemo
Pick who you like to play.
The odds that someone on the opposing team actually mains a counter champion is not high (unless you are picking a champ countered by Irelia atm).
And, if they pick a counter even when it is a champ they don't play, you will win anyway.
Or you pick morde or leo. Just saying
