The chest system encourages you to find a champion you like - then abandons you once you find it

Hey guys, just thought I'd chime in and give a suggestion to improve the way chests are earned.

Now, let me start off by saying I love the chest system. Was grinding out my chests one day, GP was next on the chopping block, now I'm a 500k mastery GP main who just hit diamond.

I've found my main - mission accomplished, you did it. But now my chest counter perpertually sits at 4 available chests because I don't like playing much more than GP, Karthus, Twisted Fate and Graves. I would rather watch the world burn to ash than play a game as Janna, getting chests is such a damn chore now.

Here's my suggestion, give us the ability to transfer our chest charges over to a champion we've already earned it for, but make it so we have to earn the S this time, not our premades.

It would be really cool to be able to be rewarded for practicing and performing well on champions we've found out we like - and we'd be actually be thrown a bone or two for going for consistent S ranks.

The current system promotes spontaneity, which isn't bad, but a lot of people really just need to slow down and take some time to really learn a champion. Let's take a look at Rek'Sai for example- she is unquestionably busted as hell. I'm still a little salty a 46-0 Rek'Sai diamond 3 smurf beat me. Yes, she was a good Rek'Sai, but keep in mind that in almost 50 games, no team was too heavy for her. That's crazy. But if we take a look at Rek'Sai's statistics she's 45% winrate, 5th lowest in the game. Same story for Ekko and the like. Why is this? It's because people just play them while they're meta, and move on when they get nerfed. Joe Schmoe plays Rek'Sai poorly for 10 games, she gets nerfed, he moves on without learning Rek'Sai and getting good with her. This system would really promote people to just learn a damn champion they like and play them to a higher potential.

Riven on the other hand, a painfully average champion, never seen in competitive play, just got buffed actually, not OP in any means, is a 52% winrate. Oh look, her average games per player are the third highest in game. Meanwhile Rek'Sai sits at rank 87. It's because people actually like Riven because she's fun to play, and as a result, learn to play her. Even if she isn't meta, people play her for the love of the champion and keep her winrates high because the players are actually worth a damn.

Anyway, that's my suggestion. Tell me what you think, or tell me to eat shit for being a degenerate GP 1 trick. Thanks.

I assumed it encouraged you to branch out and find more champions you liked.

I'm not sure that's the way to fix it, but I do agree with you, I find myself not playing some champions anymore even though I liked them just to get more chests. I think I've gotten about 20 chests so far, and I haven't played many games on my main champions in a while now because I felt like there was more incentive to play other champions. It's good to get people to play different things and I really do like the chest system, but I think it could be improved a little. How, I'm not sure.

The thing that's frustrating with the chest system currently is I basically have all the chests for the champs that traditionally play ADC or support, which is the two roles I generally play. There are a few in those classes that I'm still learning (Lucian, Kog'maw, Draven, Blitz, Tahm), some that were nerfed (Corki, Kalista, Alistar), and others that are better in other roles (Kindred, Graves, Teemo, Nunu).

Yeah, I can go learn mid, top, or jungle and I sorta have started learning to play mid, but what's the point of trying to get better at a specific role or champion when you eventually run out of champions to do it on? Sure, I can play in a normal game and do Lux support or ADC Ahri but I'd rather play actual champs that I'd possibly play in their ideal role, not just do some strange pick so I can stay in my normal roles.

This gets especially worse when the season draws to a close as the conglomerate scores of champs in their main role makes earning S a near impossibility for most people, and it creates a surge of severely off-meta picks while people try to get an S on someone in a role they typically have no business in.

Was thinking maybe they could let you earn a chest on the same champ once a month with the minimum S like you suggested. Could even do a hextech mastery one on us and make it require 2-3 S ranks. Just some way for those of us who love playing that one or two champs to get chests :(

I mean. That's the point. It's supposed to make you go out and get out of your comfort zone.
