@Meddler What was it again about Riot supporting alternative playstyles?

Current PBE changes for Kog'Maw: a honestly pretty big buff to his Bio-Arcane Barrage to help ADC/On-Hit Kog'Maw out, but at the back end of it, a .2AP ratio drop on his Void Ooze, making his entire kit a 50%AP ratio show. Why? Q's AP Ratio was already gutted back in patch 4.4, sacrificing 20%AP ratio for a 20 base damage increase (which wasn't worth the trade as it also became a skillshot at that point, lowering its reliability), ult was definitely nerfed number-wise when the follow-up on the marksman changes came around, sacrificing execution damage for better scaling damage.

A history of Riot not endorsing off-builds:

  • AP Trist got hit hard when Explosive Shot became physical damage
  • AP Cow got his AP ratios hit when it was strong, as well as it getting the Sheen-nanigans on his W removed (arguably deservedly so)
  • AP Yi, AP Sion, AP Taric, AP Skarner: all dead. And no, contrary to Riot's initial belief, the new Yi doesn't work the same as the old Yi if you want to go for the Q resets.

Why is it, that whenever the community finds a better way to play a champion than Riot intended for it, it seems like they initially want to kill that playstyle, when they've said time and time again that innovation is great for the game?

balance.

tanksuo, tanko, ap [insert champion here], etc had balance issues, some more than others.
