I'm getting really tired of being held hostage in games by toxic teammates saying no

Naalith··13 votes·6,870 views

I used to be the kind of person who would never want to surrender games, and back in the day comebacks happened all the time (probably too much even). However, if the other team has 20+ kills at 15 minutes and several towers and your team has less than 5 kills there is literally no point to keep playing the game. It's not fun, your team can't leave or they might get punished, but people still do it anyways. I guess people who like making others miserable feel accomplished making you stay in the game up to 10 or even 15 minutes after you can initially surrender even if you're just dying to the enemy team over and over on repeat.

In the last week I would say I've had 2 or so super hardcore comeback games but those are games where the other team is smashing in the 30 to 40 minute range, if the other team is so ahead early there's nothing you can do.

In the same last week, I would say I've been held hostage by a salty boi who won't surrender at 15 or toxic premades who won't even surrender at 20 for probably 2 to 3 hours of total gametime, and that's a conservative estimate. That's time I could spend on other games or doing other things, but the only way to avoid these shitty game states from happening in like 75% of my losses is just to not play. It's not okay to have to pretend to wholeheartedly try to win even though the second the enemy team appears on your screen you instantly die, and this sucks even worse when your teammates who refuse to surrender (and by the way are usually doing the worst on your team) just spam ping you and tell you you're trash.

If the game hits like 20 minutes it actually starts to get fun as late game strategies roll in but the issue is that most games are either literally over or decided by 20 minutes. I miss late game, I miss comebacks, and I miss feeling like I'm having fun win or loss. The game isn't fun if you're losing right now unless it's a real late game nail biter, and if you're winning it's not even that fun because instead of solo stomping and feeling like a carry you just have to follow your team around and roll through turrets and get picks.

This problem probably isn't going to get resolved anytime soon either because my favorite role jungle is getting absolutely shit on with the dumbest nerfs imaginable next patch and the big mid-season update seems to have been split into two parts. I don't want to be forced to play junglers who can fight off other junglers for crabs, I want there to be some strategy besides a scuttle coin flip but oh well, fighting for crabs makes LC$ more exciting so they have to do it I guess. Strategy has been systematically removed from the game over time but jungle has felt pretty good and diverse with lots of ways to play but I guess they finally got around to making it less diverse and fun as well.

How does expressing one's right to cast their vote make them toxic?

You know what I'm getting tired of? People who quit winnable games. I'm getting sick of anticlimactic surrender votes for absolutely no reason. Just minding my own business in top lane with my score of 5/2 and double my opponent's cs when we are only 2 towers behind and the team score is 15-20 and suddenly my Nexus explodes because my team is a bunch of pussies who can't seem to handle their shattered ego because their personal KDA doesn't look pretty.

I don't surrender close games that are winnable, like 15-20. I'm talking about being 6 turrets and 15+ kills down at like the 15 minute mark. If the game is remotely winnable I'll stick with it but what my 0/11 Yasuo (real game from today) needs to realize is that the worst person on the team won't suddenly lead the charge to victory.

This. I go through so many games where people surrender way too early and have no concept of what late game is. You know, some champs are late bloomers and never get a chance to shine. To give you an example: How many bot lane vayne's lose tower before the other bot team? I dont have numbers but I see a lot, and you know what, the vaynes that stay to the end get penta kills. Winners dont quit unless their whole team is hell bent on feeding and even then should be done begrudgingly.

Who even surrenders those games? Apparently, people are talking about those hard stomps where everyone is losing and there is 0 hope to win, except if the enemy team intentionally starts feeding you kills and doesn't push, or 1-2 enemies disconnect.

Me when I have 450 stacks at 20 minutes with Nasus, I'm 2/0 and my team FF's after I tell them that I would 1v9 just hug towers or hug nexus after I take top tower and we'll run it down mid.

Well if I express myself and go AFK due to not believing this game is winnable I get permabanned. So thats why.

I'm getting really tired of people like you actually wanting to surrender. Says something about your threshold for patience and conviction. You really don't know how this game works if you give up at 20 - 5 kill deficits with a few turrets down. In Solo Queue, that's 80% of games.

You need to realize that if they have that kind of kill advantage, they're also worth more gold, and you can always come back once your team huddles (not too close for Ace- Nukes).

Naalith5 votes

When I was lower ranked I would never give up because the other team threw so often. The higher rank you go the game just turns into a point where the enemy team makes very few mistakes to exploit and usually deathballs around the map continuing to pick off your feeders to get an even bigger advantage. I've won 2v5 games before in season 1 or 2 when I started playing, but as I've gotten better my opponents have as well and those massive 10 to 20k deficit games don't swing very more.

I can also see that you're both unranked and level 54, which means you haven't played much since preseason when the deathball high damage comps really got out of control. In the past I would say you're maybe right, but the state of the game right now if you're that far behind you basically have to make the choice to get zoned out of all gold or XP or just die the second you step one step too far. It's horrible.

Before responding to someone, do a little bit more than snapshotting the account they post on. If you actually bothered to look, this account hasn't been played more than 4 months, and hasn't been played since December.

I'm level 131 on current account, Diamond II.

I'll give you a hint: I Leveled this account using Sona , and after that the account almost exclusively used what? Oh Right. Ornn.... Evelynn.... Zoe..... What happened with those champs?

I never understood why 3 out of 5 isn't a majority.

People just don't understand that you need to blow up the nexus to win. They chase kills and forget to ward bushes, dragon pit, Baron pit, and then they wonder why they are losing when the other team has 3 dragons and a herald, 2 turrets in 2 lanes by 25 minutes and in great position to take baron while we haven't breached any of their tertiary turrets all game. I know people hate surrendering winnable games but a lot of people don't know what a winnable game really is.

We had one game a while back with a Yi who had 52 kills. All he did was run around killing the enemy team over and over, two quadras and a penta. The rest of the team had 6 kills or less each. What do you think happened? When Yi died, they all rushed and pushed at the same time and won the game while he sat back with a 70 second death timer. He really thought if he just chased them kills he'd win the game, but that isn't how it works.

For those of us who do understand how to win games, make it a 3/5 surrender so we don't sit for 50 minutes on a completely wasted effort.

Because majority vote with a small sample base is incredibly poor, especially when LP is involved.

Votes with single digit sample should always be unanimous. The 4-1 vote is already lenient enough.

ah, you're that kind of guy in my ranked games who keeps on feeding and tapping the surrender button, right? and after 25 mins we win the game

Naalith4 votes

No, that's the person who refuses to surrender and shows how good a chance of winning our team has by running it down mid over and over. Most games where I want to surrender at 15 I'm doing the best on the team and I just don't want to stay in a game that my team has already thrown and I can't carry because it's too demoralizing.

OtterlyLost4 votes

You know what I'm sick of? Holier than thou people who are like,"how dare you surrender winnable games?!@" These people are obnoxious optimist who have no grasp on reality and are actually severely delusional 9 times out of 10. You can tell when a game is a loss or win and when it's close or not. I have never won a game and previously thought,"I dont think this is winnable game." There have been plenty of times where I felt doubtful or nervous but never one where I outright said to myself,"this is unwinnable."

Throws happen but when you're 20 minutes in and the spread is 20 to 2, every lane lost, and you're all playing early game champs, dont be a jerk and keep three other players in a game just because you're having a psychotic break down. That is the literal definition of holding someone hostage.

Also using the American electoral system in this climate as an example to argue someone's point does not in fact help your point. The electoral college is a broken piece of shit that makes it so, like in league, the popular, majority of votes can be simply ignored because bigger assholes voted in a different direction, essentially allowing them to keelhaul and hold the entire country hostage with their overwhelming decision. Why do you think places like California see more campaigning in than places like Mississippi?

FYI Riot has said they are looking into majority surrender at 15 minutes, so if 4 people want to surrender at 15 minutes that it, it's done.

Naalith1 votes

That'll help curb the problem quite a bit, I'm excited for the change. One salty boi can keep people there until 20 and that happens a ton, I'm glad Riot realizes that if 4/5 people aren't feeling a victory it's probably not going to miraculously happen.

GamingZimon2 votes

Mute your team, keep focused. Don't bother surrendering after you already tried once.

This is how I played. If I don't see a chance of winning the game, I surrender. If my team press "no" while they are very toxic, I just mute them and try to play as safe as possible. It's very unlikely that the team press "no" on the surrender button just cause they want you to suffer. That's why you should always think that your teammates think they have a chance, and you should follow them. I had multiple times where I really hated a certain player in my team. For ex hard taxing, killstealing or just making my life horrible. If I press a surr button and they said no. I would start to follow them around, since I am useless. The only way for me to be useful is giving my life for them. Trolls or not. If a Troll sees a free kill they go for it. So likely that the enemy will chase me and try to kill me while my troll teammate picks them off, cause they are free kills for this insanely OP Graves playe---... This OP X champion.

Usually ends as a very close game going up to 45 mins. Which has a 50/50 to win or lose. 40% of the games I have tried to surrender, and my team pressed no on. Has resulted in a victory. Please keep that to heart

Triple3T2 votes

People with the same opinion as you must learn how to understand how a surrender vote works.

In most cases, if someone chooses no, it means they still want to play that match and if 2 people want to play then the team plays on.

No one is holding anyone hostage. Don't try to tell me that you didn't know how this works because literally, anyone that has a few games under their belt knows how the surrender vote works so don't bitch about it afterwards when you knew exactly what you were getting yourself into when you decided to play.

Don't agree to continue playing league until 4/5 of your teammates no longer want to play and then be salty about it once you have to hold up your end of the bargain.

Naalith3 votes

When my team doesn't surrender I continue playing, but you bring up a good point when you say "you knew exactly what you were getting yourself into when you decided to play." You know what? You're right.

I know that if my team is losing pretty hard there is about a 75% chance some asshole who is probably like 0/8 is going to vote no because he's salty other people lost lane as bad as they did and wants to punish the team. And that makes me want to decide NOT to play. Funny how that works. Wanting to play shouldn't be a rite of passage you must undertake as a super serious League player, it should just be like "hey hell yeah I have some free time, let's hop into a fun game."

Triple3T1 votes

An alternate reasoning might be that they're just having fun. Some players, myself included, can still have fun in a game that has no chance of winning. Maybe I'm trying out a new build that's super fun but isn't meta. (Tank Karma, Crit Nasus, Ap Aatrox or full Ap chogath)

Sometimes players can have fun with zero kills and that's totally ok. League is meant to be fun and sometimes fun doesn't equal winning.

Automated Riven1 votes

I am tired of getting raged at by people who went 0-2 in lane and want to surrender even tho we are even in towers, up in dragons, and like 4 kills behind.

Naalith1 votes

Yeah, it's also frustrating when people give up too easily just because they got spanked by a Renekton or something and want to give up when the other teammates either won or went neutral in lane. This post is about when you're so far behind as a team there's virtually no way of winning anymore though, as in all lanes lost and the kill deficit and control they have from killing towers is so insane there's virtually no way to comeback.

Dead flag blues1 votes

I'm really tired of people claiming "being held hostage" because of this bronze game were people WERE ACTUALLY held hostage for 4 hours. Stop your bullshit, it's not because you're a garbage player who goes 0/26 every game and screams "FF LOST" at 15min when the only person fed is your lane opponent while your team is hard-carrying your ass that your team mates are toxic.

princeblumpkin1 votes

According to Riot, you're the toxic one for not wanting to waste more time in a 3-24 game.

no to toxic1 votes

The best way to stop such things from happening is to que as support. Pick Nunu, then last minute you switch to smite and ghost and go jungl. Your team will not just decide the game is still winnable once you accidently feed the enemy bot lane 10 kills and took all your junglers farm. You can´t be reported for it anyway so there is no risk.

i hate this kind of games.its so stupid.i this ppl have no common sense 0 logic.ive been in 0-15 games enemy adc got like 7-0 with 4 towers lost and theres always 1 guy saying we can win.ive even been in 20-3 games with 2 lost inhibitors and ppl say we can win.im like hole shit.

Quiet Dude1 votes

Just split push in those kind of games. If you’re down 5 to 40, all your towers down, dragon and baron gone and your team’s resident anime comeback hero’s, the self appointed team captain/cheerleader, still won’t surrender... just split push.

The game will end eventually. No one can fault you for not trying even if something bad happens while you split push.

BremerdanGorst1 votes

There's certainly some debate to be had about the line where a game can't be won. A general rule for me is not to surrender if the enemy team hasn't even taken an inhibitor tower yet.
