Why does Riot want Lethality to be a thing?

This is not (just) a complaint post, I think Riot is a good company, but I really don't understand Lethality. Why do they want this stat to be so strong? If assassins were too weak to tanks why not just put more percentage armor reduction on items instead of trying to increase the damage assassins do to squishies?

Lethality metas are one of the worst because it's just like blood moon. Everyones blowing up left and right and no one gets a chance to react.

Isn't this why people complained about original Rengar? I just don't get it.

Lethality is not meant to be a way to deal with tanks. Lethality is a way to force squishy characters to either die easily or deal less damage due to having to build a defensive item.

Right, but don't most assassins overkill squishy targets anyways? Also, if that's the case why not just leave it as regular armor pen?

I mean I'm legitimately asking. I don't understand it at all.

the reason is because the name Armor pen was misleading, making people have the impression that you buy it to deal with tanks. That is why the name as changed.

That's not what I was saying or asking. I'm asking why change from armor pen to lethality to deal with squishies?

Lethality as a stat seems better for heftier targets though, since it is based off level. If it's because squishies get too many heals/shields then that's more of a problem with healing and shielding than armor pen, especially because you can heal and shield the tank instead.

Again, really asking here.. like it's ok to explain it to me. Lethality and the meta that surrounds it doesn't seem healthy for the game. So, I feel like I'm missing something. I'm not making a statement, just asking a question.

Lethality isn't FOR killing tanks. It was buffed so that assassins could still burst adc's despite their damage being delayed - because the healing/shielding on adc's was preventing any chance for assassins and bruisers to do their job regardless of if they got to the adc and perfectly executed their combos or not.

Its been 5 seasons since they started creeping damage and reducing tanks ability to tank... I've been asking them for 5 years why we keep buffing damage. I get downvoted pretty much every time.

Except that is a biased and untrue statement. If it were true every team would have 5 tanks and they would walk forward and win.

Perosonally, i'd prefer armor pen to be a way to kill tanks. So lets say it's +20 lethality, that'd be like 20% armor ignore. It wouldn't have anything to do with unarmored targets either, that's what flat damage should be for. The duskblade passive is the heavy hitter when it comes to assassinating. Also, assassins aren't the ones abusing lethality.
