So, Jayce has suddenly become strong again...

And I'm kind of surprised that he hasn't received any attention from Riot in quite a while. They seem to be on a big "counter play" kick and Jayce seems like the anti thesis to that balancing strategem.

His kit works in such a way that you are doomed if you do and doomed if you don't. You go in on him and he hammers you away, puts out his gate and takes off. You stay at a distance and he shock blasts you to death.

Yet at the same time his kit is incredibly bursty.

I'm not saying Jayce is OP or anything, I just find it interesting that he so thoroughly goes against all of Riots modern design philosophy.
