Anyone else feel like these item changes are awkward and confusing?

Runeglaive - Next basic attack converted to magic damage but has an AP and AD ratio? It's just a weird concept that was bound to end up with abuse cases. I hear they're removing the "converted to magic damage" part, but still. It should just give your next auto an AP-scaling hydra-like wave that deals magic damage. And if it's really meant to help clears, shouldn't it only proc on monsters? Couldn't they have just added this hydra-like-monster-only wave concept to Magus?

Sated - Doubling on-hit effects is just plain confusing to me. Does red buff apply twice the damage, twice the slow, or neither? What about Gauntlet? I dunno, maybe I'm not that league-smart (only G1), but this is an awkward addition imo. Even giving it magic damage on-hit bothers me. Now Yi deals true damage, magic on-hit, and base AD with crit he builds. Like wtf are you supposed to build against that other than damage so you can kill him first?

Does the magic on-hit get doubled every second auto? If so, why not just remove this feature altogether and average out the damage? So instead of +60 on-hit with +120 every other auto, make it a flat +85 on-hit, and remove the "double" effect. This seems like another item that lends itself to abuse cases with eventual champion nerfs that weren't warranted before this item.

New Zekes - I get that it was meant as a sort of "adc benefits from the crit while you benefit from the AP, since most supports are AP", but there are problems with that concept. First of all, it's cementing in the concept of AP-based supports. How come there are no AD-scaling supports, outside of 'kill lanes'? I'd find it interesting if there was a support-themed champion who had a poke ability that scaled off of AD (low scaling, with his/her other abilities being utility themed).

Second, it's another move away from "pure" auras. Auras have been getting reworked since season 3. They all have a caveat now. A charging system, range nerf, reduced stats, reduction in # of champ effected, etc. Seems to be easy to charge, but why add the extra layer of complexity? It has an activation condition with a duration and a cooldown. Unless it's spammable, it will be hard to coordinate the timing in teamfights in solo queue. If it is spammable, the stats get nerfed.

Lastly, it removes another niche from the game that was nice having. I've bought Zeke's on support thresh, jungle yi, jungle xin, and even support ali in the past, as my team comp really benefited from it mid-game. Now that option is gone, and replaced with the single-target, more-complex version in the PBE.

I dunno man. Maybe I'm just stupid but these item changes are frustratingly awkward imo. I prefer simple item changes like the recent streamline of AP items. They all give alot of AP, and you buy the one with the utility your champ wants. It's simple. No double ratios, no extra stacking mechanics, no charge systems, etc. Coupling these awkward item changes with the recent surge of 'triple passive' complex champion releases, and I could see this game getting pretty stale. The more complex things get, the less friendly it is for newer players and the higher chance there is for abuse cases due to the number of factors involved. More abuse cases = less champion diversity and a harder to balance roster. I dunno, just sort of thinking out loud.

the new item 3285 isn't as good as the old. i rather have 120 ap and 7% ms rather than 100 ap and 10% ms

Yeah I agree. I understand that they needed to nerf/change it somehow though, as it was sort of a rush-item on every AP mid. Personally, I thought they'd just reduce the charge damage.

I was going to read this but then I saw it was a novel, and I haven't had my afternoon tea yet. GG 0/10 post.

That's a pretty douchey attitude. If it's too long for your tastes, then just hit 'back' on your browser. No need to downvote and leave a shitty comment.

No, no they aren't. It's just you. item 3100

The issue with the 3-4 passives on a champion isn't their complexity, it's that they are "hidden power". They make the champion more powerful without requiring anything from the player. They don't make the champion harder, or add complexity, they just hit their enemies with more numbers than the other champions.

Sorry, dude. It's the facts. Many things have both an AD and AP ratio. Lich Bane is even an item with both AD/AP ratios. And there are items that give both AD and AP as well. It's nothing unprecedented in the game.

But lich doesn't convert damage types at all. Besides, why not just

add this hydra-like-monster-only wave concept to Magus?

But lich doesn't convert damage types at all.

Actually... it does. Lich Bane converts the physical damage Sheen proc and 75% Base AD into magic damage, resulting in a mixed damage auto-attack

There's different ways they could have done it, yes, and making Runeglaive more Magus than Runeglaive is probably a possibility. The big issue is that AP is not a good stat for junglers so an AoE Sheen effect was added since jungler's have to do a lot of autoattacking and having a feature buffing the weak AP autoattacks would be a benefit to them.

To answer the question: "shouldn't it only proc on monsters?" yeah, it would prevent a laner from taking it but it won't work because it would be asking players to spend 2250g on an item whose primary benefit from the Sheen effect is lost when ganking, dueling, or teamfighting.

The idea in my mind is that it wouldn't build out of sheen. Thus, sheen/tri-force/lich can be built alongside this item, and the pure-AP jngs like fiddle don't lose out on a late-game item, since magus had 80 AP.

I forgot to write in the reason for the damage conversion in last post. The reason it converts all the damage into magic damage. It is because you have to autoattack a lot to clear camps but as we know building AP means your AA's are very weak unlike the ADs. Jungle camps have armor, however they have 0 or less magic resistance. Meaning that while the AD junglers autos do less damage to camps, the Runeglaive allows the AP jungler's autos to effectively be true damage against camps, that also scales with AP and even does bonus damage.

Personally, I'm kind of the opinion that Magus would have been alright to keep in because "Why not?", it's not like anyone would build both. Even though it would only benefit the pure AP junglers. In other words, Fiddlesticks. .... and maybe Karthus.

That makes sense, but I still see nothing preventing my suggestion. Simply adding an monster-only, AP-scaling magic-damage hydra effect on your autos to Magus would have accomplished exactly what this whole mess is about; faster clears for AP junglers. No damage conversion needed. No abuse cases. No lonely fiddlesticks. Everyone's happy.
