Gut the "Proxy Singed" playstyle

Zen Ineth··4 votes·2,389 views

That and Heimerdonger have no place with their noncombative playstyle. Either you engage the enemy or you don't play the game. Simple as that.

Reminders: Downvoting without offering a logical differing viewpoint is a crime Shoutouts to: nep2une for being precisely what he ragged on me about! Let's give him a hand, folks :D

So just kill singed. He's ridiculously weak pre 6 and he requires a buttload of farm to even be valid mid game. He's only strong by late game and that's only if your team is dumb enough to play the "let's chase singed across the fucking map" game. Just play Singed and see how people counter him. He's really not an easy champ to learn.

Zen Ineth1 votes

Okay then, how do I kill him? Say I'm Gnar and he took Ghost to my Flash. What do I do in that circumstance?

A Doorknob4 votes

Get your jg to gank him if not poke him down. Minions hurt and you have ranged advantage. Eventually he's got to use his ghost to escape. Once he uses his ghost he can't proxy as effectively anymore and it becomes dangerous. Most people at this game think they have to ALL-IN all the time and always land a kill no if buts or whats. If he can't proxy it means he has to go in lane and if he's in lane you can aggro him for days, especially with BOTRK recently being buffed which used to be a core item on Gnar (dunno if it still is). Most Singed players will sit in lane for 35 min just trying to farm because of how useless they are. They can barely even split push effectively because they require bigger than normal minion waves. Use your team and push objectives. Usually it'll be a 4 v 5 for most of the game. Just practice patience. It takes a lot of patience to play Singed and dealing with a good Singed player requires you to have that sort of patience as well.

Or do something crazy. DONT kill singed. Go with a tanky, AD champ, rush zzrot and banner of command, beat him at his own game.

AlienPrimate1 votes

The only point of proxy Singed is to take towers quicker than the enemy team does. All you have to do to counter his strategy in this specific case is build lifesteal and sit in the middle of top lane doing the same thing he is. Do this until your jungler comes to help and only then do you even try to hit Singed. If it fails and you don't kill him then don't chase him and go back to top lane proceeding to get 100% of the cs.

RogueWill1 votes

You have a few options. The first one is to stay on lane and farm under turret until your jungler comes for his buff (red or blue). Then you collapse on him and force him to back.

You could rush a zz rot portal and start roaming, the portal will pretty much stale his proxy while you wouldn't lose much gold since the voidling kills give you the gold.Problem with this is that you will have a very farmed singed mid game so you gottta finish sorta fast before he gets unmanageable.

You can also pick a high scaling champion and play his farm lane game, nasus is the prime example but there are plenty of other champs that needs farm to work and would be happy with a farm lane interaction.

-1 No thanks.

This game needs more playstyle diversity, not less.

And it's a "Battle Arena" game, which suggests that there is a battle taking place. If people don't want to engage with their enemy and take part in their role, they shouldn't play the game.

this isnt a fighter game... its and objective game

you are trying to force into a 1 vs 1 mortal combat type of game and see it as checkers

when the game is more complex then that... the game is more like chess

I have to correct you on one thing. Fighting games are very much a chess game, especially the higher you get in skill level.

Most people have this impression that fighting games are all reflexes and muscle memory, but they're not really. Easily 90% of the game is getting inside your opponent's head and countering their every move and countering their every counter. Players are less reacting to their opponents and more predicting them. They are baiting and punishing. They are getting their opponents right where they want them, and all the while making them think its the opposite.

Its true that League and fighting games are very different, but that statement about fighting games not being a battle of wits is simply not true. To further press that point, there are characters in fighting games that prefer to stay back and fight passively rather than engage in a close range fight, much like Singed is in this case.

My point was mostly that you like in-your-face fighty champs that are very hard to get away from.

So you complaining about champs that counter that specific playstyle loses value.

Zen Ineth2 votes

So you're saying I should play Vi top lane.

theArtifacts6 votes

What you're suggesting goes against one of Riot's core values.

Varying play styles also keeps the game interesting. If you can't adapt, perhaps you should try a different game.

I've been meaning to try my hand at Proxy Singed. Mostly because I'm terrible at top lane, and the less I have to interact with my lane opponent the better. So for those times when I get auto-filled to top, I can just Proxy Singed and yolo.

JustMonika135 votes

As much as I hate proxy Singed and Singed in general, how about no?

Ralanr5 votes

Only aggressive playstyles allowed? Where's the fun in that?

Zen Ineth2 votes

Not aggressive, but engaging. Interacting with enemy champions is the whole point of the game. If a player just wants to sit back and force their opponent to interact with them only when it's a detriment to them, it's not a healthy playstyle.

says who? you? there are multiple ways to win the game. I mean why not just delete splitpushing strategies and everything except 5v5s? There are ways to deal with proxy singed, there are ways to deal with Heimer. You refusing to adapt because of your extremely narrowed mentality on how the game should be played is not a good reason for them to be "gutted"

That is all everyone does tho. Try to fight in a minionwave, try to fight with a level lead, try to fight 2v1, try to kite, etc etc. The whole problem comes from your favorite champs having the condition "fight me 1v1 after my burst". They have opponent-detriment built into their kit.

Singed likes to play the map, instead of the champion. Because people like picking things that are good against champions but bad at controlling the map. It's the same thing, just reversed.

TL ; DR counterpick singed or have your jungler camp your lane

Counterpicking isn't counterplay You cannot rely on your jungler to camp your lane, especially against a champion that's incredibly annoying to gank like singed.

Astôlfo4 votes

Uh. It'd help if you actually bothered reading everything instead of cherrypicking parts.

Marshbouy2 votes

I did. i read multiple paragraphs and it was just "gank him a lot and pick a waveclear champion" With some stuff about trundle.

Astôlfo3 votes

List of general tips (not every single one applies to every single champion you might pick though):

  1. Just proxy his own wave as well.
  2. Kill his jungler.
  3. Counterbuild MR.
  4. Abuse his weaker early and kill him repeatedly to put him further behind.
  5. Banner/Zz'Rot to counter his push.
  6. Learn how to counter splitpushing tactics in general.
  7. Learning how to manipulate the wave. (He's not ever going to be able to get every single wave perfectly.)
  8. Ignore him and help other lanes snowball.
  9. Singed's full build items are fairly cheap - aka, he hits full build power earlier than others would, i.e.; drag out the game to have people who have stronger lategames (like ADCs) hit their full power stride, or alternatively, end even earlier.
  10. Walk your first wave to tower so he doesn't get away with dumb crap like level 1 proxying.
  11. Learn to CS near/under turret.
  12. If he runs past/near your tower with Q on, you can intentionally eat the Q aggro momentarily to make tower focus him.
  13. D-Shield is a decent starting item against him (because you'd be mostly focused just by minion aggro if anything).

So you managed to miss all of that?

Marshbouy2 votes
  1. Yeah that requires picking a champion who can proxy and it will be vastly less effective
  2. ok
  3. that cannot help against proxying
  4. if he plays safely then he will not have an issue.
  5. ok
  6. already know those. doesn't help much in silver when your team is kill hunting.
  7. already know that. helps a bit?
  8. yeah im just gonna let him push to my inhib. great idea.
  9. #silverlyfe yo
  10. already do that and it helps a teensy bit.
  11. already know that.
  12. that requires a shitty singed to make an intentional mistake.
  13. ok i'll do that

I scrolled through multiple posts stating "just out clear the waves and kill him" before going leaving.

i just played against one with nasus.

ended the game with 900 stacks at 40 minutes (really), and just obliterated his team in fights and skirmishes. i just sat in the middle of the lane, tanked the waves with my passive lifesteal and got every single minion on my q from about 10 minutes in to actually 600 stacks at 20 minutes.

Astôlfo3 votes

Nasus is one of his worst matchups possible in the entire game. No minions to potentially steal your stacks and your sustain can heal back the minion aggro. lul

Critmaster Garen4 votes

exactly.

i also had 45% cdr total and was running a mix of cdr, ad and lifesteal runes which made stacking and tanking minions even easier.

the hardest part was really convincing my team to ignore him, and let him keep pushing. becuase they were chasing him while the enemy orianna got fed on mid. thats why the game even went as long as it did.

sion is probably another great counter.

garen and mundo work pretty well too, since their passives out regenerate a large amount of the minion damage.

i dont know man, 900 stacks on nasus was pretty fun.

i can see how nunu doesnt give a fuck, but outside of lanig hes also mostly useless. nasus isnt the greatest teamfighter either, but especially with so many stacks he still demolishes objectives, and now and then you get the amazing setup to just bulldoze through the enemy team, which can straight up end the game.

yes you are correct the YETI dont give no fucks

my last two games as YETI i went 9-7-17 and 5-7-11 and won both

Not fighting is a logical playstyle lol if you cant counter it, sucks. The game is micro AND macro. It's all about strategy in the end, the micro things like dueling only exist to help the overarching macro strategy. You can't complain if you can only beat the enemy by dueling them, that's a tool, not a strategy. I've beat a proxy singed before as top lane brand by just building zz'rot first item and invalidating his whole playstyle by removing all his lane pressure. Now you're probably thinking "zz'rot on brand, thats not how you build brand!" The items are only micro tools to help a strategy, why would i get items like haunting guise to help me stop proxy pressure? You have to think outside the box to beat out the box strats, not just autopilot and build the same things you built the last 10 games.

it's when you see the enemy singed pretty much farming in between your turrets (or even inside your base)
