Magic resist feels like a useless stat

I legit got out of an ARAM with a full MR build and got melted by full AP Blitz, Nami, Ziggs, Morgana. They didn't build void until their last item yet with 321 magic resist and 4100 hp as Shyvana I get absolutely melted. To put it in perspective this is a FULL AP team and there is a useless Zed. Why is it that I get melted when my whole build is dedicated to surviving this type of damage? Imagine if it was a full AD team and I stacked full armor. I would be far more tankier even though ADs put out more DPS. Why is it OK for mages to have infinite CC with Rylais and I get destroyed still? It is impossible to disagree that magic resist is worse than armor.

To be honest, 300+ MR might have been overkill. 100 MR cuts magic damage in half, 200 into 1/3, and 300 into 1/4.

Though you can think of MR as % effective Health against magic damage. It may have been more effective to trade some of that MR in for raw HP.

Also, a 4 AP comp, doesn't change the fact that Minions, Auto attacks, Tower shots, (and even Zed) still do physical damage. Also, HP it self is pretty good at absorbing poke. (Liandries is a bigger hassle than void staff)

It probably had something to do with the fact that you were being blown up by 4 champions. Pretty sure it doesn't matter what damage type they are throwing if you are getting focused. And lastly, no you wouldn't be tankier against full ad with full tank build. Black cleaver, Last Whisper items, and crit exist. Auto attack champs do more damage with a right click than mages do with a spell. Twice per second sometimes.

I mean, high MR doesn't make you *unkillable" by magic, it just buys you an extra three seconds or so of life, or makes sure the burst rotation doesn't kill you instantly.

MR is a cheaper stat, first off. Null-Magic Mantle costs 450 and gives +25 MR, which is 18 gold per 1 MR, where cloth armor is 300 for 15, which is 20 gold per 1 armor. Second, AP champions tend to more heavily rely on burst damage, where AD champions have some who rely on burst and some who rely on sustained DPS. If you can survive the burst, they can't touch you (for the most part) afterwards.

It's better to build enough MR to sustain enough damage for a burst or two then punish them for being squishy while their stuff is on C/D. As for ARAM, you could try Warmongs among the MR to regenerate your life then go back in when you're confident to survive the next burst.

Though the full tank idea won't work to well if you don't have an AD or AP carry on your team that can kill off their carries. Besides, A tank that can hurt may cause more people to try to kill you off first over the glass cannon carries on your team.

~ Also, with a "full tank" build, you could of easily obtain 5k life. So I'm guessing you didn't have the perfect full tank build. Def and Res is useless with constant damage if you don't have the HP to back it up or the ability to end the fight fast enough before you die.

Actually, you wouldn't be tankier vs all AD. Resists in general are pretty meaningless this season.

Damage is overloaded as fuck since the season 6 mastery tree was introduced.
