Azir, and the changes he actually needs!

Ok, so I understand riot wants to bring Azir's power back in line in regards to the high level competition. His performance at MSI shows how dominate he is. Along with the fact his Dynamic Q stats do not stand out to be amazing. I'm fine with this. I do not believe the way they are going about is correct.

"Arise! (W) can no longer be used on towers to deal 60-230 (+.4 AP)."

  • Ok, I'm fine with this change. It didn't make sense for Azir to even have this anyways.

"Emperor's Divide (R): Wall duration lowered to 3 seconds from 5/6/7 No longer grants 20% movement speed for 1 second when passing through wall for Azir and Allies"

  • This is the issue! It removes a key power of Azir which is his displacement and teamfight utility.

I do not believe Azir needs a utility nerf. I think Azir needs instead a change to how he plays. Right now Azir can stay out of a fight and provide consistent damage, or go in and provide burst + consistent damage afterward. There isn't really much of a choice here, if azir can go in and use his ult aggressively it's almost always preferred. This needs to be changed.

My proposal is this

  • Shifting Sands (E): The shield granted upon collision with enemy champion consumes any Arise! charges and amplifies the shield by 50% for each charge consumed and sets the next Arise! charge cool down back to full.

What this change would do is prevent Azir from having consistent damage after going in for a Shuffle. It makes Azir have to choose between utility and burst or extremely high consistent DPS. It would make decision making a vital process of when to use Shurima Shuffle tactics and it would also grant Azir a lot of options with limitations.

TLDR; Don't nerf Azir utility, instead make his burst and utility situational when used aggressively.

EDIT 1: If anyone is curious about how much of an impact this change would make. with 20% CDR and maxed out W this would give Azir 6.4 seconds of no more Azir soilder spawns.

Or, just don't nerf a high skill cap champion that rewards players who understand his kit. Everyone do yourself a favor and play Azir - that's how you counter play him. I'm an Azir main (obviously) and I do not cry when I get matched up against him because I understand his kit, so everytime you see the Azir coming for his combo you gtfo, land yours, and your team should follow up - or if you're lux you kill him. They already nerfed Azir - they just shouldn't do it again.

bump for discussion. What kind of nerfs do people think Azir deserves? From what I saw there simply was no drawback for Azir when he Shurima shuffles the enemy team.

  • Q no longer slows
  • W can no longer be cast on enemy towers
  • Casting E causes Azir to dash to where a solider is, not where a solider ends up OR soldiers near enemy towers expire four times as quickly instead of twice as quickly

I think Azir needs his Q damage removed, but also remove or significantly lower the mana costs. E and ult could have damage buffs in compensation.

I always wondered why Azir did so much burst with Q>AA when he has insane sustain damage.

Let them do it. This is exactly what happened last time. They went through and nerfed his entire kit before his Q (which was the problem-dealing too much burst), and now it's been repeated with thunderlords.

I find it astonishing that they can easily say something along the lines of: "We want Azir to be an 'ap marksman', who focuses on consistent AP dmg in teamfights", yet they always leave his burst dmg until the last thing to be nerfed.

I tried to point this out last time this happened but nothing I did worked, so I'm not going to bother this time either, Riot has shown time and time again they like making the exact same mistakes over and over and over again (let's buff Ryze, he seems a bit weak) and expect a different outcome, as well as being disgustingly irresponsible when it comes to owning up and admitting they screwed up (typical M.O is to leave the known issue for several months before coming out with "it's come to our attention that X is problematic right now", see early season tower changes and death timers).
