Hey Riot, regarding the Mage Update and previous class-wide updates...

Please try to make them not so much of a balance issue when they're redone. By all means, play with new mechanics as you have with with prior updates and modernize their kits, but try to make sure that they arent the next set of pick/ban Champions that we'll have to deal with.

We all remember post-Juggernaut ban rates of "ban Darius Mordekaiser Skarner or lose.", as well as the until-recently pick/ban states of Graves KogMaw .

So when you're modernizing Poison Ivy, Brandon, Uh-Oh-Spaghettios, Pentakill AIDS, Snakes-n-Ladders, and Puddle Man, please try not to overtune them into a state where the people who would most appreciate the rework can't because they're always banned.

Other than that, keep up the good work! Looking forward to your updates (especially Puddle)!

Replace Darius with Garen. Remember, Darius was considered either underpowered or sleeper op for a while. It was Garen however who was considered over the top.

Furthermore, I'd like to maintain the point that the Juggernaut reworks were overpowered largely because of the community whining, at least for the ones other than Mordekaiser, and Riot actually listening to the community to gauge their power. At that time, the set of pick/ban champions that we had to deal with were also champs with power levels that we created.

You're definitely right in the case of Skarner, at least as far as I remember. To my knowledge Garen was never nearly as much of an issue as re-release Darius was, but that just may be the way my memory forms those events in my mind.

Still, I just want these mages to be benign enough on re-release that they arent pick/ban so I can enjoy Riot's work. Especially Puddle Man and my newfound love for Uh-Oh-Spaghettios.

Updates of that size require Riot to make changes to the game that are:

  1. High in number
  2. Often major
  3. Often experimental, and thus never been done before
  4. Overlapping, and so liable to influence each other and their balance
  5. Time-sensitive, as each update of this kind is given a window where the designers need to come up with concepts ready to be released on live

With this, the only way for Riot to do these updates without creating an inevitable upset in balance, aside from compromising on any of the above factors (which isn't something that'd be good for us either), would be to apply more manpower to the problem, which is neither all that easy nor likely to catch balance issues as well as the entire League playerbase. There are probably instances where the devs could've made better predictions (the Juggernaut update designers were deliberately generous with their champions' balance, and that ended up creating major enjoyment issues afterwards, including during Worlds), but it's impossible to release an update this large, on time, and not expect balance upsets somewhere down the line.
