So, an item that gives offensive stats, defensive stats, and a spell shield ended up being broken.
I, for one, am shocked.
I, for one, am shocked.
who wounda thought putting
and
in the same item would be op
oh shit it gives movement speed too
Doesn't give attack speed anymore.
ah ok
and it does give ms.
hmm
As a singed main can't even do my job effectively when the entire team has a spellshield
you mean your q doesn't break it?
nope
It's nice to see a Rioter post here, but a response that carried actual substance would've been much better appreciated.
Or a thread that gave any substance
That is true, and unfortunately some of the most popular threads on Gameplay also tend to be among the least substantial, though adding to that with Red posts, no matter how pointless, just makes the issue worse. In an ideal League Boards environment, players should be voicing their opinions, complaints and suggestions constructively, generating consistently good discussion, and communicating reliably with the devs, but that's going to take a lot of structural changes and added resources to make that happen. In the meantime, though, little things like keeping at least a baseline level of quality for Riot responses on Gameplay (and Gameplay specifically, not necessarily more fun boards like GD or M&G), and steering away from upvote-farm threads like these could help a lot.
Well it also doesn't help that a lot of threads that are substantive and well-thought seem to end up being ignored just as often as threads that aren't.
Exactly, part of the issue is that taking the time and effort to make a thoughtful, constructive and nuanced thread can easily get you either ignored, because people on here are more used to louder, simpler threads, or even downvoted, simply because there was one point out of many that a user disagreed with. Effectively, putting effort to posts often isn't worth it, so most users either give up or switch to clickbaity, upvote-farming threads instead.
I think the problem with that is structural, though: a large part of the current (and unhealthy) culture on Gameplay is framed around the voting system, which was originally intended to reward well-written posts and bury low-quality comments, but is now abused to achieve almost the exact opposite, rewarding shitposts that pander to like-minded players while denying visibility to a more diverse range of opinions and ideas. It basically incentivizes people to act like bullies and play to a hive mind mentality, which makes Gameplay an unreliable source of player feedback at best, one of the reasons why Riot has created so many other spaces for them to communicate their design decisions and philosophy (e.g. Nexus, the Dev Corner, Ask Riot, etc.).
Another part of the issue, though, is that Gameplay features very inconsistent moderation, and offers insufficient tools for players to flag low-quality posts: there is no real "low quality post" report option to start with on the report list, and even actual offensive posts will usually remain untouched long after they've been reported, which indicates that there may not be that many people at Riot assigned to work on Boards, or at least not on Gameplay. Implementing those resources may pose an additional cost, but could significantly help improve the quality of posting on here, and make sure posts like the OP get kicked out in favor of better-written, genuinely constructive threads and conversations.
At least we know this was seen.

hmm
Why am I getting an "I told them so, but they wouldn't listen" with a hint of facepalming vibe from this comment?
This appropriate is response.
After they buffed it.
I'm Edgy...
I didn't think the item was op. then I actually took some time to read it. 60 ad 35 MR letahity out of combat movement speed spell shield that last for 10 secs
just look at all of that, and on top of that tior recently buffed lethality ratio to 60- 40.
WHO THE HELL IS ON THE BALANCE TEAM!!!!!!!
Uh....

Yes, but that is a stasis.
Incredibly powerful, indeed, but with the large drawback of being basically stunned for the duration.
he has a point, imagine edge of night with 120cd and 2-3 seconds active
A garbage item... Assassins need that active more often than every 120 secs
so, we both agree that zhonias needs a buff? :)
I'd be happier if this stupid item ->
would get the Lifeline Passive removed from it and EoN an increased CD with a shorter spellshield.
I think Edge of Night is fine as is. It just needs a specification for ranged champs (half duration, double cd, disable active, idk)
Well to be fair, it's pretty OP on melee's too. It's CD is basically nonexistant, 20 seconds downtime on an active item is basically nothing.
At least melees have to go balls deep
Meanwhile a Spell Shield can only block a single ability while Stasis can avoid everything in 2.5 seconds. That's why stasis lasts shorter and a Spell Shield lasts longer. The cost of Edge of Night is that Spell Shield activation isn't instant, you have to not take any damage or attack, and channel it for a 1.5 seconds in order to activate. Which means if you get jumped on, it's useless.
Believe me when I say that stasis' "feature" of freezing you in place makes it orders of magnitude shittier than a spell shield. So unless your team is right there to help, Zhonya's active is just as useless.
If you are playing a mage, and your team isn't right there to help, you're doing something wrong

I think it's pretty clear that the Zhonyas active is much better than the EoN active - even considering the cooldown.
The problem is that EoN has great stats - even without the active. Zhonyas, however, is not so great without the active as it gives very little offensive power. That means that they have to either nerf the active (most likely the CD as 20 seconds downtime is really too little) or it's stats. Personally, I think nerfing the CD would be the best option as it would make using the active more meaningful.

My point as well. If the CD was more meaningful (longer), people would have to care a lot more if they want to use it or not.
I'm mean lets be honest, usually all zhonyas does is delay your inevitable death by 2.5 seconds.
laughs in swains voice
Meanwhile, it was gutted by 50 AP, 5 Armor, and 30s extra on the active in exchange for... 10% cdr.
To be fair, it was weird having an hourglass item that didn't give cdr.
i know right omg
Because looking at the clock makes the feeling of time runs faster right? Quite the opposite tbh...
Inb4 UNIQUE Passive: Cooldown Reduction from items is reduced by 20%. KEK
You are absolutely right, the reign of hexdrinker and Maw of Malmortious should come to an end!
I hope youre being sarcastic cuz Maw is a regular shield for magic damage ONLY.
A shield only for spells? Practically a spell shield, barely any difference.
You still do damage through the shield... If you're playing an magic damage champion, it'll take longer to kill the person but you're still doing damage. It doesn't block abilities or anything lol.
Varies case-by-case.
Maw alone effectively adds ~25% to your HP bar.
In most cases that's more than one spell worth of damage.
But it does not negate spell effects, as in, effectively destroy the combo game or initiation potential of several champions. Not that that's a bad thing in general but when you are hard to get to in the first place (ADC's) it's a bit ridiculous.
There's a reason Banshees is in such a sorry state.
Banshees can be built by everyone. Edge of Night can only be built by divers, marksmen, juggernauts, skirmishers and AD assassins.
That's a very small pool compared to EVERYONE for BV.
I'm fine with Maw, but Hexdrinker having Lifeline is just bullshit.
It gives ADs too much power over APs, it's literally what Seekers would be with a Stasis active. You just killed that guy 3 times in lane? He comes back with a Hexdrinker? Sure, he's pretty much unkillable for any burst mage until a few more backs later.
