What's the Soraka build now?

I believe that the 4.21 changes demand a change in Soraka's build. It is still true that health is a bad stat on Soraka, and that resistances are extra good on her. However, with 4.21, Soraka has one of the worst hp regens in the game. Due to the changes to how hp regen items work, this means that they will benefit Soraka less than they benefit most champs. Ap is stronger on Soraka now than it was last patch.

The following are a list of items I could see being strong on the new Soraka. I'd appreciate your input on it.

First of all, item 2049 is mandatory. But don't upgrade it until the rest of your build is complete. The health it gives is worth very little.

item 3069 The hp you get when minions die fulfills the same purpose that hp regen did on 4.20 Soraka. Mana regen allows for Soraka to heal herself with her q, and movement speed provides survivability. The active very strong for herself and for her team. However, the hp regen isn't as strong as it was last patch.

item 3303 All of the stats it gives help Soraka. If you want to go full-out AP Soraka, this might be the stronger option, since you don't have to invest any gold in it; you can leave it at T1 and go right into buying core ap items.

item 2041 Soraka's lane phase is nerfed this patch, no matter how you look at it. She will not, under any circumstances, maintain her hp as well as she used to, during lane phase. Flask will help combat this problem. However, it of course delays her build. It might still be worth it though, as its hp regen component is still useful in siege scenarios.

item 3117 I don't like these. But if you are roaming the map, they get you places faster. Also makes it harder for enemy's to catch you out of position while warding.

item 3158 CDR is awesome on Soraka. Get 40%, but don't go over.

item 3111 Resistances are great on Soraka. Tenacity is situationally awesome. However, these boots are expensive, and only boost her utility in the sense that a dead Soraka is a useless Soraka.

item 3504 All of the stats that this item gives are stats that Soraka wants. Additionally, it buffs allies AS, yayy. But AS is a wasted stat on many champs, and there's a good chance that you won't be healing your ADC the most often. Be cautious of getting too much mana regen. Also, while this item doesn't give resistances, it does give MS, which helps keep Soraka alive.

item 3023 Soraka likes all of these stats. However, the item gives no mana regen. The active provides additional ability to chase or run away, similar to talisman.

item 3165 I just think this item is super strong in general. 20% CDR seriously helps you reach your 40%. Also, it gives lots of ap and mana regen. This is one of the more gold-efficient items in the game; and it's cheap. However, it gives you no survivability whatsoever.

item 3041 If you had a really great game, this would have been a great item to buy to make your game even greater. However, hindsight is always 20/20. In order for it to remain cost effective, you need to get around 5 stacks on each of your lives. Soraka's ult helps with this.

item 3222 These are all stats Soraka wants. While it doesn't provide her any ap to help support her allies, its active is invaluable.

item 3060 Has the aegis aura, which helps your whole team. Provides less hp than locket, which is good. However, its active is a lot worse. On the upside though, it gives 60 ap.

item 3001 Gives stats that Soraka wants, and it has a support-styled passive. However, Soraka won't be in range for the passive to apply most of the time. MR reduction is stronger against squishy champions like Fizz or Zed than it is against tanky champs. Maybe consider getting it against squishy dive champs.

item 3089 Lots of ap!!! I think you should get 40% cdr, and have enough mana regen and some base of ap before you consider getting this item though. It increases nothing but her utility, which is better done with the aforementioned stats.

item 3157 Lots of survivability and AP.

item 3026 The resistances that Sorakas crave, with an awesome passive.

item 3025 Well.. it gives all stats that Soraka likes. In addition, with her spammy w, it provides cc. Haven't tried it yet, so it's all theory crafting.

item 3116 Gives lots of AP, and though it does give health, its passive apparently makes it super easy to land the snare component of her e.

Example build- item 3303 -> item 2049 ->item 2041 -> item 3158 ->item 3165 ->item 3089 ->item 3157 -> item 3026

My usual Soraka build involved item 3158 , item 3069 , item 2045 , item 3060 , item 3083 , and item 3116 .

While HP is a controversial stat to build on her since her heal burns % of her own HP, I still found it necessary to itemize as it raises what HP you are left with after healing others. I've tried to build heavy Armor/MR but found it does not increase effective HP as much as I thought since we would be burning base HP pool through heals. Lastly I've found AP to be a much more effective stat than previously thought, as the increase of healing for successful Q's amount to quite a bit.

Some interesting notes with the items: Banner of Command: The promoted minion gains a very significant increase in HP, armor, and MR. Since Soraka can heal minions, spamming heals on a promoted minion can cause it to tank a ridiculous amount of damage (aim to promote cannon). While a full team defending a tower will kill it quickly, I've found that a handful of defenders often can't bring it down in a reasonable time.

Warmongs: The 3% HP regenerate only reduces to 1% if damage is taken. Soraka paying HP to heal others doesn't register as damage taken and Warmongs continues to regenerate 3%. With proper positioning, I've often been able to avoid damage throughout teamfights and keep this ridiculous regeneration up while in combat (letting much push out an extra 2-3 heals per fight).

Rylis: Beside providing stats I like, the slow helps proc the 2nd stage snare on E by keeping them in the circle. It also makes E into an instant, on demand soft slow. Otherwise, makes Q slow even more (though not by an outrageous amount) if hit in center and can soft slow non centered targets.

I never thought of healing the promoted minion like that. Interesting idea!

I really don't like getting health on Soraka though. After she casts heal 10 times, she has less health than if she didn't buy the extra health at all. In addition, you have to do MORE healing than you normally would have had to do, in order to use your w.

Gotta keep flask in mind next time I play Raka.

Honestly, I found the Flask mediocre. I couldn't tell whether it saved me gold or not, really.

As it is, I'm just still leaning toward armor/MR and fitting in a little AP where you can.

I agree, nice list. Personally I think Archangel's is a nice item if you already have (or will have) max CDR and you don't have a mana item.

My usually build varies depending on where I play her, but I usually just go with a pretty good balance of Health, AP, Resists and Utility

item 3023 has great stats. She gets CC out of it, very useful.

item 3504 can give every stat Soraka wants. It's an underrated item that can make objective taking easier and rewards prioritizing the healing of carries and carry-like bruisers.

item 3028 is a common item to rush, and provides amazing utility. I recommend item 3222 over item 3174 when you do upgrade it.

item 3105 item 3065 I believe are the only viable defensive items on her. item 3060 has become superb for providing multi-faceted defenses.

item 3069 item 3092 Both are useful, both have their merits. The thing is that Claim is risky because of how it relies on your safety and ability to land consistent poke. If you fall behind with it, you're more screwed than you would be with Talisman. I pick Talisman because it provides better stats, but some people swear by Claim.

item 3025 is deceptively useful. In combination with your [E] snare+silence, [Q] slow, and low CD on [W], you can CC-lock people all by yourself. Still provides great stats.

I don't see item 2041 being worthwhile. Sure, you get dual regen, but you need to make a really early investment into it, while you should be rushing your Sightstone or Chalice.
