Sion left for dead?

I don't know when it happened, but it seems like Sion is kind of struggling in the jungle ever since his shield nerf, not being able to pop the shield on the first clear is kind of a big deal, and slows him down IMMENSELY, why can't the shield just like... reduce incoming MONSTER attacks by 20%?

If you trigger your shield mid q before agroing the monsters and then trigger your shield a fraction of a second before it breaks you'll be fine. I'm not arguing about how bad/good Sion is at the moment but it's just a tip for people who don't know.

VaporeonKun1 votes

While it's a good tip non-the-less, the fact that you can't use the shield to tank monster is a problem. Nautilus can at least use his shield to an extent and can keep him decently healthy while enhances his attacks through his first clears. Sion on the other hand doesn't even get to use it's secondary effect if he tanks monster, so you end up using it only for the 2nd effect instead and not both which really dampers the point of it's use as a shield in the first place.

I don't mean to come off as arguing, but it feels kind of shitty that you're forced to use the secondary effect without much use of it's primary effect.

Procing your shield a fraction of a second before it breaks does tank the monsters though.... You proc it when the remainder of the shield is basically nothing. You won't be losing much health by doing this way. Using it the way I said in the first post will tank almost the exact same amount as if you don't break it and it will do the aoe damage as well.

OP was talking about the first clear. This means having it at Lv 1 prevents you from using its active. Having Q at lv 1 won't do any better for you than W.

This is how I approach jungle Sion.

First level your Q. Get a leash. Then put a point in your W. Start charging your W while your Q is in wind up when you attack a camp. Explode your W after them come back down. Gets rid of all the little birds easily.

There's nothing stopping you from using his W for damage, really it's more of a choice between damage or defense. Ask yourself, "Do I want to hurt them with my shield or do I want to protect myself?" Sion's shield allows this option, unlike most shields.

I also max my W first. As people point out, his CC is somewhat unreliable. His W however does the job when you know what you want, so maxing it helps me the most. Then I max whichever ability I am landing more often second (usually my Q funnily enough).

Sure it sucks that the shield can't be used for offense and defense at the same time, but a choice is better than nothing.

I think his only real problem is that people are balancing him around his Top lane, which has seen lots of pro play.

You could target his Jungling specifically with DR against Monsters. But riot really considers that the lazy approach.

No lazier than %max hp true damage.

Sion is really fine in the jungle, and before preseason I could clear the jungle twice without backing. The new preseason makes it harder to stay alive, but I manage. Sion currently has no issues in the jungle. Though, I use Q on the first clear, and not my shield...

I ussually start W when I jungle sion (I think my most used tank jungler) you can use it by activating it about 3 seconds before the camp spawns, and then you can detonate it after the big monster of your camp hits it once, then get Q when you ding and max out Q, i generally do not have any problems in the jungle and he can almost farm it infinitely without backing

As a sion main I think he is a fairly weak jg er. 60k mastery for a bit of credit. I like him as a support so I can take the protect the carry role that adc's seem to love you for cause it makes them look good. In the jg his clear times are really slow unless you go the clunky devour route where you have almost no tank and not having tank items on Sion is extremely urgot play style except melee. Play sion top or support. He's a great seiger for top lane and as I said already good for protect the carry role. If your looking for a jg bruiser go with mundo Jax or trundle jg as they are much more effective.

item 3930 no tank?

Well...item 3022 item 3748 item 3071 you are technically right. It's more of a bruiser Sion. That being said, it is hilarious and synergies great with strength of the ages.

It does but imagine those on trundle? It does a bit better...

Well obviously since Trundle is centered around auto attacks and draining. Obviously Trundle is a better choice for a tanky/bruiser devourer jungler. Doesn't make Sion devourer any less fun. And if anything, Sion synergies with Strength of the Ages and Sated better due to his W passive. Though Trundle is going to do more damage because he's a fighter, that's what they are built for. They can go tanky or damagy, but are going to be more damagy than the tank if they build tanky like the tank. The tank will just be more tanky because they'll have more CC/tank qualities.

But if I want a tank for a jg others still have better clear times ex. Nautilas if you don't cancel his autos when you e. Amumu and rammus have far better clear times than sion.

Ralanr1 votes

Sure. But there's always a better jungler for a specific task. Sion isn't the best tank jungler, but he can jungle with reasonable success.

Again I'm not saying sion is a bad jg er, I was just pointing out that generally most others are more effective.

Ralanr1 votes

I don't disagree, I'm just saying that he's not really in as bad a spot as people think he is.

Course I am unranked, so my input means very little.

unranked don't mean crap, your game knowledge is just as good as in other persons, unless that person says blitzcrank is a high skillcap champ. point being rank doesn't effect game knowledge. you can know just as much as a diamond player just not exactly sure how to apply it to your fingers. back to the original point sion is a very stong pick right now in the current meta I just dotn think its in the jg.

but then again I support him against the "op" adc's soo.

I think the reason people say he has slow clear times is because they are maxing his W first. I actually max Q first simply for the clear and damage- it makes my ganks so deadly.

Ralanr1 votes

I max W first and I don't think he has slow clear times. Course I probably don't know what as "fast" clear time is.

His clear times are slow in comparison to other jg ers. I max q first as well on the rare accasional time I go sion jg.

MasterSomething1 votes

Usually, his only "slow" clear times are against Krugs or Gromp. I find he is really effective against everything else. All I need is either just the jungle item or a half build of cinderhulk and can clear most camps in 5-10 seconds.

So I'd like to point out I'm saying this in comparison to other jg ers. Again I'll stick with other bruisers. Trundle can clear gromp within 4 seconds with those, Jax can obviously do it practically instantly cause he's Jax whilst taking less damage, and mundo just laughs at gromp if he starts maxing e. I'm not saying sion is a bad jg, there are just better ones.

MasterSomething1 votes

Gromp in four seconds? Maybe if Trundle is going full AD and this is late game, but I was talking about early game. Early game clears usually matter most as it shows how fast a champ ramps up.

idontplaythemeta1 votes

i was too... after first back you know? when you get half an item or the jg item

I feel like there should be a law where you have to go look up a champions winrate before you go asking for buffs for them. Obviously unenforceable, but I'd probably feel better from not needing to facepalm so much.

Olath Quortek1 votes

You can still get your shield to pop in the first clear. Activate it before the camp spawns/when you knockup a camp with your Q. You can also just kite back a bit. He doesn't need anything done to it.

J Epstein1 votes

When I go for first red or blue buff, im able to cast it with like 7hp left on it. Just got to time it right

That being said, sion needs some love as he was reworked, then the juggernaut rework happened which he should have been apart of.

Solidair31 votes

According to champion.gg stats, Sion is supporting a greater than 53% win rate in both the jungle and top lane.

They likely would not be buffing him any time soon as a result.
