What if Abyssal Scepter was Useful on Ranged Champions......

Right now Abyssal Scepter is an AP item that would seem like it was used to support a mage, but few people pick up the item. The MR shred is an aura around the one who built the item, so if your Lux, Malzahar, Xerath or any mage with decent range you don't make very good use of the item. But if it wasn't an aura and only applied to your own magic damage at any range, I could see lots of players picking it up late game to sustain the enemy mages burst better while keeping up on the much needed AP. Just wanted to see the communities opinion, I think that most players would agree it would be cool to have an item replacing ZH when there isn't an ad mid.

It's a tank/bruiser item. It's for people like Sejuani who want to be in the middle of the enemy team doing magic damage and soaking all the hits.

How about no. It's a niche item, no need for it to be a basic Penetration item to make MR even less useful with no drawbacks.
