The one little buff that would make Yorick the splitpusher he deserves to be.

Make his Q work on Structures.

As a more or less active Yorick player (yes we actually do exist), I know that he isn't even that bad of a champ to begin with the way he is atm but this would definitely shine some light on our favourite gravedigger.

Nasus' Q works on structures, Trundle's Q does too, Camille's Q, Darius' W, Garen's Q and Vi's E as well, even Ekko's E and Volibear's Q do (not sure if Jax's W does so pls tell me if you know). So why not Yoricks Q? I feel like most one-time autoattack enhancers work on structures. The only exception I can think of are Shyvana's W and Renekton's W (feel free to tell me if there are any more) but I think the problem with those is, that they hit multiple times and there may be some problems but that is just a guess. To be completely honest, combined with item 3078 his pushing power may even be OP but Jax and Nasus make rediculus use of it and noone complains (or rather those complaints are unheard of by Rito), so, again, why not Yorick with his Q?

I would really like to know what the rest of you guy's think. Do you want him to dig some more oversized structure graves, too?

I feel like even gravediggers need some love. The job is ungrateful enough as it is.

He's already well ahead of every other champion in terms of tower taking speed and your proposal doesn't actually do anything to combat the reason Yorick is a bad split pusher: He's easy to catch.

Sharpening his current strengths while doing nothing to round out his weaknesses will only make Yorick stronger in low elo where teams lack the awareness to notice that Yorick is coming down a lane. In high elo they will still be able to circle around and kill him before he even gets to the turret so extra turret damage will be pointless to him.

As a juggernaut, being easy to catch/escape from is a core part of his strengths and weaknesses. To buff his performance in high elo and organized play, Riot should instead look to improve his ability to participate in flanks and teamfights since those are actual potential strengths he could have. I think a more Yorick-ish strength would be to improve his ability to set up his ghouls to pressure a lane even after he leaves the lane so he can move towards a teamfight and basically be applying pressure in two places at once.

While I largely agree with the gist of your post, your first paragraph rubs me the wrong way. Yorick only situationally has the best split push. Without maiden, Trundle beats his push every time. Without ghouls, all he has is an unempowered aa reset, which he is incentivized to use on low minions in between tower hits anyways. Anyone with an empowered aa will outpush him without his ghouls. This is a legitimate issue in that ghouls take time to set up, which means he either telegraphs his push or goes and ghoulifies a jungle camp. The side effect of empowering q means he can take a tower without building up a slow push, instead being able to join an already shoved wave with more than just base aa dmg. This could theoretically let him push more spontaneously, popping in and out of fog of war.

Maybe he'd even be able to keep up with an adc's late game tower damage, albeit not during a seige.

Without maiden Without ghouls

So Yorick isn't allowed to use half his kit while pushing but Trundle still gets to use his Q and W? That kind of thinking really rubs ME the wrong way.

SUPERX4PANDA4 votes

I think he meant that Maiden has a significantly larger cooldown and so his split-push capacity is far more situational than someone like Trundle who has their splitpushing tools on a much lower cooldown and don't need to be used very sparingly.

'He's already well ahead of every other champion in terms of tower taking speed' Any ADC, Ziggs, TF, Yi, Tryndamere, Trundle, Nasus and Jax are crying with laughter atm.

Quepha5 votes

You have absolutely no idea what you're talking about. Yorick can mow down an entire mid lane through the inhibitor in a single sustained push without ever losing the minion wave and having to back away from the tower. Not a single champion you mentioned approaches that tower taking power.

MuffledGarbage12 votes

Only buff Yorick needs is to make his Q CONSUMED by towers but deal no extra damage.

The CD is delayed when it isn't consumed and THAT'S what hurts his splitpush most.

Yorick has enough pushing power when it comes to damage. This one change would make Yorick able to splitpush towers more efficiently as well as give more counterplay to those under tower(because then yorick has to choose whether to use Q on tower or to save it for enemies with this change).

As of right now, Yorick's splitpush power is already amazing(speaking as a OTP with 1.3 million mastery points). If you have Yorick's Q damage towers similar to Nasus Q, he'd be utterly broken and would make Nasus Trundle and Jax nearly obsolete post level 6.

Meep Man8 votes

To be honest, I'd rather his Mist Walkers not be one shot by tower basic attacks.

Jerry SeinfeId3 votes

or just by anything in general. i don't see the point of them if you they can't even get to their target before dieing.

Zero Skill Tank7 votes

Definite no. Yorick's Q doesn't damage structures, because he has minions that do. Other champions don't have anything outside of their autos. If it was let to proc on towers, he would just delete them too easily.

Automated Riven6 votes

Yorick already razes towers the longer the game goes. This would hardly be game breaking. I would personally welcome the change assuming that towers get buffed meaningfully in the preseason.

This doesn't even count that Yorick is supposed to raze towers. As a split pusher it seems odd that his kit works against him in this instance.

Zero Skill Tank3 votes

Thing you might not now about Yorick is that his minions act as a wave - that is, they don't draw tower aggro. If a Yorick is taking your tower, and Maiden with kids is around, she will aggro on you would you attack Yorick.

Right now, if you attack Yorick under your tower, you will at least significantly slow his push, because his summons aggro on you instead of tower. If his Q damaged towers, either ghouls would need to draw aggro on Yorick - as a Yorick player, I don't want that, or they shouldn't aggro on whoever is hitting Yorick - as a Yorick player, I don't want that.

Anyway, current pattern when you need to know tricks like that is just way more interesting than Nasus-style 'just Q the tower'.

If Yorick were to be buffed, then better buff would be to apply various movespeed bonuses to his ghouls (as opposed to only boots), or even making their MS scale with Yorick level instead. It really hurst Yorick that buying anything that is not boots of swiftness cuts ghoul chasing power.

Automated Riven2 votes

If I were to buff Yorick I would make it so that the maiden was treated as a champion for tower agro. With the tower prioritizing champions that deal damage to ally champions>maiden if drawing agro by attacking enemies>cannon minions>melee minions>summoned ghouls>caster minions> maiden non agro. As Yorick should be able to have tower pressure if he is forced to tp out to baron or something. The strength of Yorick should be being able to apply map pressure across map and have an actual chance of it being successful which simply isn't the case atm due to the tower focusing down the maiden first. With the drawbacks being Yorick being far weaker without his maiden with him.

5050BS8 votes

They are planning on buffing turrets after preseason starts.

Bob the Toastr5 votes

I sure hope so.

Eranell3 votes

Well, as I said it could be OP, but his minions are highly prioritized by towers and he needs his ult if he wants to take them down really fast. Problem with that is that his ults cooldown is extremely high and only goes on cooldown when the maiden is defeated which he cant even controll. Once she is sent to a lane there is nearly no way to stop her from walking it down until she dies and after that his duelling power is pretty low for a splitpusher. And I'm pretty sure he would still be inferior as a splitpusher to Nasus or Jax even if his Q worked on structures.

Zero Skill Tank3 votes

OK imagine this scenario - there is Yorick and Maiden with kids pushing your tower, and also there's a cannon mnion. You attack Yorick to scare him of. Now Maiden and kids aggro on you - you take signifiact amount of damage, while neither Yorick or Maiden is even targeted by your tower - Maiden and kids are minions, they will defend Yorick, but won't draw tower aggro on him or themself.

Right not, you at least significantly slowed his push - most damage is in summons, that are now interested in you. But if Yorick himself pushes towers quickly (because his Q was buffed to apply on towers), you achieved nothing - Yorick makes short work of your tower, while Maiden and kids are damaging you. There are champions who just can't stand in Maiden and kids for too long, they would be absolutely not able to defend towers from Yorick if such a change to his Q shipped.

Eranell3 votes

You could also - you know - attack the mistwalkers as soon as they reach your tower as they die in one hit and after that the maiden. They wont aggro you unless you actually attack Yorick or are hit by his E. And when all of them are down there are a whopping 160 seconds (on rank 1) until he can summon them again in which you can abuse Yorick heavily for not having his ult. And if you are to stupid to dodge his W and E its your own fault.

Automated Riven2 votes

Tower agro prioritizes maiden if she is in range.

Zero Skill Tank1 votes

Towers prioritize Cannon minions > ghouls > maiden > other minions. If there is a cannon minion, tower will never hit maiden, whatever she is doing.

Automated Riven2 votes

The more you know. I wasn't aware that cannon minions took priority. Anyhow I still think that maiden should be lower on the tier of priority. And she should also seek to kill minions to refill hers if she runs out. Basically she should be a force to be recconed with in the side lane considering everything Yorick is giving up by leaving her. If Yorick tp's away from her then the opposing later needs to make a decision based on whether he should tp or defend. Considering that yorick in team fights is virtually useless and maiden can solo push towers without a stacked minion wave, banner, zzrot or any combination of the three. Unless your tower is low they opposing team actually stands little chance of losing it with a medium minion wave and no banner or zzrot.

And the trade off of chip damage vs a 5v4 1/2 and a 4v4 1/2 is brain-dead to make.

Variks the Loyal2 votes

It doesn't work that way. Ghouls won't focus you even if you attack Yorick. He needs to hit your with his E.

AirKingNeo3 votes

Yorick sucks though. Why not buff him?

Zero Skill Tank4 votes

I don't think he sucks, but even if so, why buff him in the most boring way possible?

Really, Q-ing tower over and over is the least exciting gameplay imaginable.

AirKingNeo4 votes

because his theme is splitpushing so make him better at it?

OurLestrade5 votes

The worry there would be going up to turrets without minions, ulting, and casually bursting it down while the Maiden tanks it all for you.

Eranell41 votes

You still need normal lane minions to reduce a towers armor if I'm not mistaking.

Velzard of Koz1 votes

Why does this have instant -5 downvotes, lol. He just said what Riot might fear would happen. If I recall well they did adress why they didn't implement Q on structures already at release in similar fashion.

Devölution14 votes

Because his ghouls and maiden arent reducing turret defense unlike harold or minions.

Ebolol3 votes

Riot might fear Yorick's Q working on structures breaking the game but don't think twice about 9% max HP per 100 AP scaling on Galio Q? lol

Velzard of Koz1 votes

The difference may be that with Yorick the decision was made by rework team while with Galio it might've been decided by rebalance team.

DragonShea4 votes

I'd say a %HP buff on his Q would be better, but yeah. He could be on par with other AA reset champs if his Q worked on towers.

MuffledGarbage2 votes

Riot tried that and found that Udyr and Yorick literaly couldn't kill eachother because they healed so much.

Any%HP buff would be pretty broken.

Yorick is already on-par with other splitpushers. In fact, he's above par thanks to his above-average tankiness and minions.

Actually I meant his Q working on towers. I just started mentioning a buff I'd like to see one yorick.

MuffledGarbage7 votes

The only buff yorick needs is for his Q to be consumed by towers, but for no extra damage to happen( see Mordekaiser Q) because that'd allow for more item 3078 procs and therefore, more towers, faster.

Almighty4 votes

I am completely agaist this. And against split pushing in general.

I want the game to be dynamic and filled with action and decision making for everyone. Walking in a straight like, pressing Q and right clicking on minions and structures is NOT a healthy design. It's boring and stale and requires little to no brain capacity. I don't even know how Nasus, Trynd and Trundle players don't fall asleep on the keyboard.

We do not need more split pushing champions who press Q and right click. And the ones who do now (Nasus) need to have the empower not apply to turrets. I have lost enough games, because we were 5v4 due to the fact that some stubborn Nasus doesn't want to leave top. The playstyle is disgusting and completely goes against Riot's "teamwork makes the dream work" slogan.

In conclusion, Yorick should not be able to apply Q to turrets and neither should other champions. We constantly complain how turrets get shreded fast, and here we are, embracing one of the causes.

Curious question, do you add your signature manually or did you find someway to do it auto?

The Boards are trained to prepare my signature for me once i make my grand entrance. ... Oh, i wish it was like that.

I add it manually by copy-pasting the link to the original custom-made PNG image, uploaded to an image hosting web site. Like so:

Wasn't trundle's Q changed to not proc on towers? Also i would prefer if they just reverted the ninja nerf from the patch after he was reworked. Since E can't mark minions anymore, the ghouls feel useless until you get to a tower where they basically just tank 4 shots.

5050BS2 votes

IKR EVERY OTHER champ Empowered Auto does (well not Illaoi's W but that also needs to be changed)

Jax W Kassadin W Mundo E Renekton W Rek'sai Q

Do not apply their bonus damage to the tower.

Auto-abilities have always worked on a case-by-case basis and have always been adjusted based on whether or not Riot thinks they should have more tower pushing power.

This. All of this

GorillaBearz2 votes

Jax W dmg does not proc on towers however it does reset his AA and it uses spell blade from tri-force of course

RyzeRevolution2 votes

Honestly, that would be completely disgusting and way too powerful, he would possible do 1/3 of a tower with one q later into the game because it already can do 1/2 an squishies health, also Jax is good at splitting because of his passive, his w doesn't work against towers and is good for it as well due to it being an auto attack reset, something that Yorick's Q has in common.

RizHippoKhan2 votes

i think you meant Shyvana's q ,and yes it does work on towers

Weaponized Hips2 votes

I feel like this is the change he's needed. He honestly isn't a very impressive pusher without his ult up, and at least a full wave to hold it up. Sure, mom and the monkeys can tank it and keep him there longer, but a trundle right now can take the tower faster, with less commitment, and not even have to build a trinity.

Wind Whistler1 votes

He's not even a Gravedigger anymore. Stop trying to pretend like the original Yorick wasn't removed and replaced with a champion that had nothing to do with him.

Eranell30 votes

I'm not pretending anything. The current Yorick is more of a gravedigger than he was before if you ask me. At least now he actually leaves Graves and summons zombies from them instead of out of thin air.

Variks the Loyal19 votes

He is a Gravedigger. He's based on irl Shaolin Monks who carried spades as weapons, using them to fight and then give their opponents a proper burial, or a proper burial to any dead people they passed by. Something of a holy mission.

That's basically what Yorick did while he was a living monk of the Blessed Isles, except he had the unique ability to speak to the dead. He would guide spirits into the afterlife while he was a monk, and became what he is now after the Ruination of the Shadow Isles.
