Either make the penalties for dodging in champion select less harsh

Or implement a system that addresses champion select trolling.

This isn't about "WAH RITO I CALLED A ROLE AND DIDN'T GET IT I SHOULD BE ABLE TO DODGE FOR FREE".

This is about "This guy who was third pick in in champ select asked three different times in plain English if anyone wanted top, did not get a response, locked in his choice and then had last pick try to poach his role in spite of all attempts to communicate and adapt to everyone's needs".

Yes, I dodged the game. Why should I play a game with someone whose nonexistent standards for teamwork were made apparent as early as champ select?

The penalty for dodging is pretty reasonable; with an insignificant or no penalty, people will dodge for any and all reason, resulting in drastically inflated queue times.

Basically: It has to be your second option of "address champion select trolling". But that is really hard to do also. Riot has to balance punishing as many trolls and as few innocents as possible with having the punishment harsh enough for the trolls but not overwhelming for the innocent outliers that get punished.

i agree. it's not reasonable to make queue dodge penalties less harsh because it would only encourage the behaviors that i'm asking riot to combat. i presented two options, knowing only one of them was feasible. fallacious in nature? probably, but i thought it'd help deliver the point i'm trying to make

to your second point, i also agree.

i guess the main takeaway from this is that right now there's nothing in place to address the people who poison champ select outside of "screenshot their behavior and send in a support ticket," which is relatively cumbersome compared to just biting the bullet and dodging. to me, it doesn't seem reasonable that the current options are "dodge, get a queue penalty and lose 3 lp on your next win" or "play the game with someone who's holding you hostage". when stripped down to its basic form, it's like saying "when this happens, you have two choices: lose lp or... lose lp"

My own experience indicates that champ select trolls aren't being serious about what they say more often than not.

My dodges can probably be counted on one hand (zero in ranked), but in games where I was inclined to dodge but didn't, the champion select trolls almost always played normally once the game started and the trolling was no more than a joke.

But you can't know if a person really intends to follow up on their troll threats until they actually do. The fear of the unknown is more powerful than the truth when you never get to discover it.

Riot will never give us a fair option. Too busy trying to count all their cash.
