Whats the downside to Sunfire cape building out of Seekers instead of Chain vest?
Idk...sunfire always seemed more AP geared than Ad. Or am i missing something here?

Lol. Do you want to buff tank ekko?
It's geared towards tanks and fighters.
AD or AP scaling is completely unrelated (with the exception of magic pen).
Many of the champions who commonly purchase the item have little to no AP scaling.
Hmm...good point.
Okay another one...why do people buy Sunfire cape as opposed to Titanic or Deadman's Chest?

it's more consistent damage than deadmans and its more defense than titanic, its also better for teamfights than deadmans.
Last question. Do you think Riot should make an Ap defense item? Or melee/tank mages should either scale off their kit like Cho or use regular defensive items?

RoA, Abyssal, and Zhonyas are all very good in their own right. Many AP tanks already build RoA. It's not uncommon on Maokai or Cho, especially if they get ahead early.

There are quite a few ap defense items as of now, Abyssal scepter, zonyas, Rylais, liandries, banner of command, RoA (note that ap tanks like amumu generally go rylais and Abyssal if needed. Creating an item that would give a lot of defence and ap would be a little too much since these items already give you a good amount of damage and health
It's a better combination of offense, defense and waveclear. It gives pretty much everything a fighter or tank could desire in their initial item.
The items provide roughly the same amount of health. However, Sunfire Cape deals more damage than Deadman's Plate while providing more durability than Titanic Hydra, making it a nice middle-ground and all-round item.
Sunfire Cape is signficantly cheaper than Titanic Hydra while having a better build path.
Also, Sunfire Cape deals magic damage while many of the champions who build it deal primarily physical damage. It helps diversify their damage types so that stacking armor against them is less effective.
Deadman's Plate rewards a strong engage, and helps engage as well.
Sunfire Cape rewards extended engagements. It improves dps for tanks and fighters during the fight, whereas DMP is only upfront and is reduced by cc. DMP is also single-target, whereas Sunfire Cape is aoe, meaning if you engage on the entire enemy team you can be dealing up to 215 magic damage per second just by being there.
Sunfire Cape is also good for stronger splitpushing, especially if you lack strong waveclear that a full AP mage or full AD assassin has.
DMP on the other hand is good for roaming. You pick DMP to roam, you pick Sunfire Cape to push harder.
Both are good in their own right.
