Solutions for AFKing

x Royal Solo x··2 votes·646 views

This is a remade discussion since I didn't communicate properly what the purpose of the discussion was.

Can we come to a solution to allow players to leave the game while maintaining balance between teams?

If you cant think of a solution do not comment. This is merely for creative thinking.

In no way shape or form am I complaining about the afk system. I just want to discuss possible options to replace the current system. And yes I know its not likely to happen.

Nothing will make up for having a 5th member of a team unless it is blatantly unbalanced. If something that unbalanced was implemented it would encourage people in uncomfortable match ups to just afk. There is no world in which any 'solution' would be implemented without greatly hurting game health or being useless.

That was the point of my previous comment, this will never be a thing. Remake is something for emergencies/computer problems and early surrenders avoid wasting too much time if a teammate rage quit. Outside of that there is nothing else that ever should be implemented.

Taking away the consequence of leaving during a match would make it too easy to just leave. Plain and simple. I don't think the op understands this.

There is no 'solution', it is a pointless thread. If anything was ever implemented to make a 4v5 'balanced' it would ruin game integrity by making afking a viable strategy. I wouldn't be surprised to see this thread taken down just like the other one.

If you really don't want me to comment you should probably avoid copy and pasting. You aren't making yourself anymore credible, you aren't answering my position, all while simultaneously posting spam which increases the likelihood of this getting removed.

So what other solution is there so people like you don't post a comment when it is not needed or wanted? And is clearly stated in the beginning. "If you cant think of a solution do not comment. "

nm10105 votes

I told you that there is no solution, that is a viable position to take (that others also seem to agree with). I posted that comment so you would be aware that there is no plausible fair 4v5 and would have the answer to the question you've asked twice now. Instead of addressing this point you want all dissenting opinions to leave so you can only have agreeing opinions.

These boards are not set up to be your own personal positive feedback loop, if people don't agree with you they are going to let you know. That is just life, if you don't like it I apologize.

Why would I make a discussion to hear a bunch of negative opinions that have nothing to do with the purpose of the discussion. I do not care about your opinion. It is not wanted. Show some respect. :)

I'm trying to discuss gameplay, so if you don't mind, which im sure you do, go away.

You seem to confuse negative opinions with dissenting opinions. I was in no way negative to the topic or you, I just dissented with idea of a 'balanced' 4v5 being a possibility. In every comment since then I have elaborated and explained my point in a respectful way to attempt to help you understand.

In response I've gotten copy/paste and no respect shown. Now as I asked previously, please only respond if you are going to address my position.

Edit: For the sake of clarity I'll link the original comment for context on the no respect shown part.

Ok, I'll level with you. I don't want to hear that there is no solution. They are useless and I don't want to argue with a brick wall.

I clearly asked for no comments of that nature. Thank you

nm10103 votes

You are stuck on my position and not my argument. You can always discuss my reasoning for why I said there is no solution. If you honestly had no counter for the argument that the only 'balanced' 4v5 would be one with an overpowered handicap for the 4 that could encourage afking then you should just let the discussion die.

There is nothing to be gained here if you can't counter such a fundamental opposition to your point. As is though I'll leave you alone as this is heading into derailment and I had no intention of impeding a thread with a wall of reiterated/expanded arguments.

You are presenting me with a problem not a solution. Its as simple as that.

Please be respectful of the other people in this discussion. While simply giving you a solution to the issues you present might be preferable, discussing the problems themselves is a means to that end and it is reasonable to have that discussion here.

I'd love it if any of you could reference the post or topic on hand when replying to me. If you don't have anything relevant to say you honestly don't need to reply.

A super advanced learning ai system could be implemented. It would track all of a players behavior or play patterns over time and develop a 99% accurate model to simulate how the player would perform and behave. Then the ai could take over any time the player goes afk or disconnects until the player returns.

This solution is probably not feasible given currently available ai tech and due to scalability concerns for tracking and storing enough data for all 100 million + players, but is in fact a solution that would achieve the goal of maintaining the balance between teams.

Super advanced AI to take over for the missing player? I like it.

Doesn't Heroes of the storm have something like that? Basic AI I mean.

What about an AI backup bot? like if the player goes afk a bot fills in after a certain amount of time. i'm pretty sure there was a self learning ai fighting moba players over for dota that they couldn't beat. like i get tracking players would be hard but if it was already in the game, just like a stand in... maybe i dunno.

It's a delicate balance that has to be reached with the ai here for several reasons.

The ai must pareform as closely as possible to the player who is afk, otherwise you there won't be balance because the ai will player better or worse than the player. If the ai is better than the player then there would be an increase in harassment from people who want a teammate to afk so a bot can take over if they are doing poorly, and if the bot is worse than the player than it opens up the potential for the enemy team exploit that weakness and farm the bot over and over - so that you'd think you're better off not having a bot teammate and being 4v5.

An afk player will always offset the balance of a game, and implementing countermeasures does not mean that it will fix the issue of playing in a 4 v 5. If you can't handle the fact that you will be punished for leaving in the middle of a team game, where your value as a player being there, doing well or not, is more important than you not being there, you shouldn't play the game. Cut and dry. Team games aren't for everyone as they say.

i know right? rude.

Anyway I like the opt out option, its the most balanced option that I've seen. And for ranked matches your are right in that afking shouldn't be allowed.

Here's a good way to AFK while playing league. Play something besides league instead, this way you are effectively AFKing in league while at the same time not making dumb posts on the forums and also not ruining games.

Dividing out gold or XP wouldn't work for League, since you'd still be capped on your attacks (max AS or your ability CDs), on the wards you could place, and most importantly on your presence on the map.

Swapping out with a bot is a garbage idea, since we all know how to play around the bots.

A replacement queue where people jump in to cover for you is ok in theory, but in practice most people would leave when the game looked like it was going downhill, so you'd need people signing up to try and pull off a comeback. You'd need some reward for doing so, then you'd have people farming the rewards... It's a mess of an idea to sort out.

As much as you don't like it, the best solution if you want to be able to AFK at any point is to find a different game. PUBG or Fortnite are far more forgiving to people who have to AFK frequently.

x Royal Solo x1 votes

I actually don't mind it that much. So don't try and speak for me.

thanks for explaining your reasoning. And you do make solid points.

Don't give up there might be another solution.

Dividing out Gold and XP might work if the caps were raised once someone left the game.

If the AI is good enough It could work. Riot honestly has put little effort into their AI.

Replacement queue wouldn't work at all and you already hit the nail on the head with that one.

130X made some good points with ranked games and had an interesting idea for normal games.

"Other games, draft and blind, maybe just include an opt out for one player prompt. Even if the game fell to 3v3 or 2v2 or 1v1 why not have opt out prompts. This at least gives people the option to keep playing lopsided games or to be honorable and bail.

In addition it would be nice to take this further into surrenders. Such as when you get a 2 vote yes 3 vote no surrender. Why should these two be locked in game against there will for possibly 30+ minutes of there lives when possibly the game could fall to a 3v3 and everyone could be happy? "
