Sure, you can talk, but what about people who's mics are broken, or speakers and so on. it would prevent people from typing in chat, they could be discussing strategies and the other player, or someone who doesn't want to use vc gets left out as they don't know whether or not the other person can join. asides, there's already discord.
It's only for premade groups. Basically Riot is implementing what people already do with Discord/Skype/TeamSpeak/ETC. I think its a bit redundant since all those tools exist and exist in better fashion, but its good a game to offer its own version as well.

Nobody fucking types their discord link into the chat and nobody fucking joins when they do How would it prevent people from typing in the chat and if their mics are shit just mute them discussing strategies? just use ping and everyone understands Voice chat Reduces toxicity improves the level of play and actually makes league more enjoyable you might actually have a good experience because of it and almost never a worse one when without it and with the chat you never have a good experience and always a worse one
