I'm still seeing Mage's supporting, and I don't like that.

I main support, and every once n awhile the brand or zyra pops up and proceeds to outdamage their adc with just a spellthiefs. Does riot plan to do anything about this? maybe make brand a midlaner again? or zyra?(and so on) when adcing i'd rather have an actual support, mayne thats just me. your thoughts?

everyone should outdamage an ADC early game

the real crime is that this isn't the case

I'm happy people are taking characters the like into the Support role because it gets more people to actually play it and play it well.

I mean, i'm glad for off-meta, trust me, I love off meta picks. But it feels like they're choosing Mage's instead of supports because people don't like playing supports or supporting in general.

They're choosing mages as supports for a number of reasons. As a former Supp main, let me explain why I would personally do it.

  1. In solo queue, there is a good chance your ADC might not be good. Maybe they'll carry, maybe they'll feed their asses off. As a Mage support, you have carry potential.
  2. It actually feels impacting. Plenty of supports don't. Sitting in the backline just isn't fun for a lot of us.
  3. Hella good lane harass. Sure, I'm not Soraka healing my ADC whenever they get low, but I can make sure the enemy ADC is ALWAYS low.

Not to mention, mages do have some pretty good pocket CC. Annie and Brand with stuns, Malz with silence and suppression, Vel'Koz with knock-up, etc. It honestly isn't THAT bad.

I guess, i've just never really like them.

  1. Ill have to agree.
  2. some supports are impacting, while others aren't
  3. soraka has tons of lane harass with her q, nami does as well, and so do some others.

As a TahmKench main, the only ap support i have issues with is Brand because he somehow gets a better stun on nearly the same cd as mine without having to go into melee range and auto once or twice. But still somehow is allowed to have super high aoe base damage in his kit....while I can only protect one person and hope the rest of my team survives when I item 3190.

Against Zyra , I dont think she is nearly as bad, she actually budgets alot of her power into an aoe root so she doesn`t do as much aoe damage to anyone who buys a item 1033 . She is over all balanced.

Although Velkoz and Veigar are a bit of an issue when going support I havent seen them nearly as much as Brand supports who are just doing freelo

what you like and don't like is irrelevant. It is what RIOT likes that matters.

It sucks to get filled support as someone who only ever really played Leona, then go in to this.

In the past I could actually play Leona to some level of competence. Now every ADC seems babied in to having a support do all of the poking and damage for them. When I used to main ADC I never expected any damage out of my support, nor did I expect my support to somehow miraculously prevent my opponent from auto-attacking me... I poked my lane opponent myself and I dodged the enemy adc+support's stuff.

Now I pick Leona and my ADC asks for a ranged support. I explain that I'm filled and only know Leona at all, then in game get berated that my pick sucks and I'm not doing any damage to them and he's getting pushed out of lane (yea, getting hit by every ezreal Q + every spell their mage throws will do that to you...). Then when they get out too far and I go for the all in the ADC half-heartedly goes at it but won't burn his summoners to finish the kill (they've used all 4 summs, I've flashed and exhausted after them and he turns away with flash and heal and instead of a 2-0 it's a 0-1). Then I'm the idiot who got greedy when "we" got their summs for free.

It's just as bad on both sides I guess I'm saying. I dislike that mages are playing support because they bring too much early damage down there and crowd out a whole class of support. I also hate how ADCs have been so babied by these mage supports that they've literally turned in to a "get me fed so I can right click late game" rather than actually playing the entire game. Not all ADCs of course - many actually know what they're doing. There's definitely enough that don't know how to play without a mage beside them though.

Whatever happened to supports being utility focused and there to ensure that the enemy jungler couldn't gank the ADC for free kills in the early game... Now t's like they deny the kill by just killing him first...

Real supports give up the ability to do anything on their own in exchange for helping teammates that may or may not suck and be toxic. Playing a Mage lets you carry yourself while still being able to have some CC/Utility. Stationary Mid Mages are countered by Assassins and Ahri right now so they can't go mid.

I'd run Morgana into Ahri all day, and even most assassins. But that's not playing lane to win. It's more neutralizing their ability to push and roam without losing much in the process. Although, some games that's all you need. One lane that just holds steady like a rock while the other lanes get snowballing.

To me, I'd rather just have a person who's willing to be an ally.

I don't care if my Brand support is 12/1 and I'm 0/0/12, so long as he's actually participating in the lane, that's the best I can ask for over the "supports" who literally don't understand that you need to play the champion you select to their strengths.

Soraka is a healer, don't run in and try to tank for me. Zyra is a poke champion, please poke the enemy. Blitz is only really good if you land hooks or surprise your enemy with your speed into knock up, otherwise you offer pretty much nothing in lane.
