annoying to lane against. and he can single handedly win a game just by landing one good grab, OR could single handedly lose a game by failing on grab. He is a literal hit or miss champion that is unfun to play against

What i hate most about blitz is that its not about you outplaying him. It's about him outplaying himself. You need to rely on blitz playing pourly or not doing well in order to win lane/game against blitz. If he makes no mistakes then you have no chance to win lane or come back into the game.

Every Blitz games goes the same exact way. They invade the jungle at lvl 1, nothing comes out of it because everyone knows that blitz is invading. Then he enters laning phase and sits at the edge of his bush, wards dont matter because you already know where he was standing. youre 500 units behind your casters because 1 pull and thats a summoner or death. So at that point you hope the enemy ADC starts pushing, which he does because hes just as thirsty as blitz. Then blitz moves into your bush and youre now behind your tower while the enemy ADC has been free farming and yours has gotten no caster minions and most of the melees. But the thing is about this laning phase is that he hasnt used an ability. He just stood there and by using the threat of him landing a pull he has your bot lane zoned out and under farmed.

His pull is so game changing that it being off CD is a big enough threat to zone entire teams.

God forbid he actually does land a pull.

Or laning phase goes like: Blitz walks into lane and immediately misses his pull. Then he and his ADC is zoned for the next 20 seconds while taking a lot of poke. Rinse and repeat.

You can't outplay a Blitz, he can only outplay himself.

Couldn't agree more, this is honestly exactly what happens.

I am a game design major in school right now and I swear I complain to my game design professor all the time about how how much I hate blitz and how he is basically designed to make a game unfun. You hit it all in this post.

LordForrest5 votes

Well you can actually make blitz useless. Have your support pick a champ that has no issues with being pulled: Alistar Leona etc.

As a marksmen you could pick someone like Sivir Ezreal (ez can literally arcane shift out of blitz's pull)

Br4ndon16 votes

Counter picks don't make him balanced.

Am i suppose to always pick leona and alister every game no matter what? Blitz can pull 4 other champions on the team too. Countering blitz is just a temporary fix until laning phase is finished.

LordForrest4 votes

I didn't say anything about balance, just that it isn't really that hard to make blitz worthless.

Also if he doesn't feed his carry or zone you, then he accomplished nothing and was a determent to his carry. Also countering blitz is not a temporary fix, seeing as it really isn't that hard to stay behind your tank characters who should be tanky enough at this point that a blitz pull would be a free engage for your team. Seriously i use to play blitz, for his 2 most popular builds all he has is his combo once thats done he kinda is just there. So if you force him to waste it so to speak the teamfight is in you favor.

It Hertz When IP1 votes

Ez can't if he gets pulled by Blitz post-6 with that AoE silence.

LordForrest2 votes

Uh, i am talking about the pull itself, i have done it and i have had it happen to me. Its utter bullshit, but Ez can arcane shift out of a pull that you landed.

It Hertz When IP1 votes

Wat

WTF is that shit

Nero tol Scaeva3 votes

its true, basically Ezreal his Arcane Shift has a 0.3 second delay before he moves, if he get hit by any form of cc during this delay he will still move away, for example he'll deny a blitzcrank pull or have leona follow him all the way in if she hits him during this time with her Zenith Blade

TheProAndrew2 votes

he can even E while in Vi ´s ulti (he takes damage and the knock up but he is 500 units away from vi)

CarameI Frappe3 votes

I'm a lvl 4 master with Blitz and this is probably the most accurate description of Blitz. If I fail a lot of grabs, the enemy team gets more confident and starts taking more risks. But, if I pull off a lot of grabs or show i'm a skilled Blitz, enemy team won't even bother trying to poke me down because they're nervous. Even a Rengar jungler will avoid jumping me because if I survive the leap, i'll just punch him- press R, and grab him if he tries to slip away.

I apologize if anyone has to fight me as Blitz. It's quite annoying, so all I can say is team up with a Morgana, Sivir, or Kayle because they'll make Blitz hesitate to try grabbing without a plan B. Then again if it's Draft / Blind pick, all I can say is try your best even though it's usually hard to stay determined.

Spacesuit Spiff4 votes

When i see blitz in low diamond elo:

Invades the enemy jungler for at least 2 camps, then proceeds to come to lane and be useless because people actually know how to position/dodge vs him. Can occasionally turn around a messy fight by pulling someone at a vulnerable moment but he isnt gonna do much in lane most of the time.

Then laning ends and hes gotta make some clever pulls, doesnt always work but when it does thats usually a free objective. If the enemy gets a good engage off though, he isnt doing a whole lot bc qw are weak in teamfights.

I dont care much for blitz but its neat to watch. And he really forces people to improve at core aspects of the game.

Nero tol Scaeva3 votes

and then there's the blitzcranks who dont lane at all and just roam all game long leaving the adc to play 1v2

Saianna3 votes

That line:

What i hate most about blitz is that its not about you outplaying him. It's about him outplaying himself.

Is kind of overused.

I'm not saying it is wrong in any way, but you make it sound like Blitzs purpose is to make your life miserable, like he was some kind of unbalanced abomination and that part i not only dislike but also disagree.

When i used to play LoL I've played only ARAMs. And number of blitzcranks or Threshes in this mode is astounding. And i've learned to to cope with him 24/7. That continous "fear" of getting grabbed caused me to learn how to dodge his pulls.

And if Blitz tries to rush to catch you with power fist, then almost every champion has some kind of CC, I do not believe that both BOT laners have 0 CC to stop blitz from rushing in. If you do in fact lack CC in BOT, then it's not his fault for being effective againt you. He just counterpicked against you.

In one of my last ranked games I was playing bot as Nidalee (support) and quinn. As you can see our CC was nonexistent, and you know what? Even with no CC Quinn was using her vault to dodge Blitzcranks grabs. Adn I believe we won the game (even though losing our lane).

Br4ndon2 votes

His purpose is to make a pick, which in a sense does make your life miserable. And he is an abomination. When he pulls my ADC over a wall and nearly one shots the ADC by himself then maybe hes got a little too much.

You can dodge hooks all day long but when he lands 1 pull. Then all his misses and mistakes meant nothing because he wins. I don't see Nami's bubbles doing that. Thresh's hooks (while similar) don't always win games. Leonas E>Q isnt making a teamfight 4v5 in an instant. Alister comes close with his flash>Q but he needs to blow his only escape thats on a 5 minute cooldown.

Not blitz, he lands one pull and drags you just over 900 units to him where your only chance of survival is zhonyas long enough for your team to jump in.

His Q is rather quick too. 1750u/s is 650u/s faster than Thresh's hook, which has a tell.

allthemuslims2 votes

I agree for the most part, but as someone that plays support I disagree with the part where you say the blitz lane pushes. The ADC's I get paired with always hard shove the lane under tower and wonder why one of us keeps dying ;___;

Sauceyapples3 votes

Blitzcrank chooses to pull the 12/0/8 Kennen into the team. Kennen didn't tell him to. Blitz did that himself.

DeathBurst2 votes

On one hand, I do agree that it's super frustrating to play against a good Blitz. On the other hand, I can't agree with that level of exaggeration. If he stays in the bush, you can be farming. If he goes out of the bush to zone you out, either his ADC has to follow him and is now in the middle of your minion (bad trade for him) or won't be able to hurt you if Blitz grabs you. So punish him. You can also bait the grab and dodge it. You can play a Tank, and if he grabs you in late game, he simply offered you a free engage on his team.

Yes it's frustrating, it forces you to adapt, but you have solutions.

Blitz is extremely annoying, he is a nightmare vs certain champs like KogMaw Sona Soraka... One Q and you are probably gotta have to burn flash or you dead. I have hated him ever since I started playing league, I do not know why people complaint about Tahm but completely forgt about blitz, He is another super tank with basically two health pools, very good utility and stupid stupid stupid burst damage. He must be the most zone controler support in league.

Let me give you a fair and reasoned argument.

You write that he's a nightmare against healers. Tell me, what is the only way to win lane against a healer? All-in. Without Blitz and Thresh, a healer lane turns into a farm lane. Blitz is their counterpick. He is absolutely necessary to the health of the game in that sense. Without him and thresh, healers would be the new meta and nobody likes it when the heal meta is strong because it turns into a farm for 20 match.

Same as above for Kogmaw. I won't say Koggy is in the best place right now, but back when he was good, blitz was another good counter. Kog's late-game scaling used to be absurd. You had two options against him: beat him badly in lane, or have a comp that can reach and kill him late-game.

Tankiness, he's not nearly as tanky as you make him out to be. His passive has a high cool-down and scales with mana. Off the top of my head, he generally only has 400 bonus in his items with Frozen Heart (they generally don't buy Iceborne). If he's fed, he might have 300 from Righteous Glory. They also usually don't have much health (compared with actual tanks). Ali, Leona, Thresh, Taric, and Naut, will out-tank him easily. In fact, he really only out-tanks healers and mages.

His damage his somewhat high, but is reliant on his hook. His ult is bursty, but nothing special since he usually has no AP items. You might see banner of command, if that. I like rushing FQ on him by switching from relic shield, but then you have ZERO tank ability for the first 20 min.

His niche is a risk/reward champ. You have good games and you have bad games with him. He can single-handedly win it for his team, or lose it. If you pick him as a support you trade reliability for pick ability. Thresh is better in many ways. Blitz is much better at one.

If you want to win against him, pick Ali. He's a brain-dead support that is sleeper-OP and often a pick/ban in LCS. If he hooks you, IDGAF, and walk away. If he hooks your adc, punt their adc across the map and walk away. Then win teamfights with his BS knockups.

Seriously, as a support main I dread the days everyone realizes how strong Ali is.

I've, personally, played Sona and Soraka into ppl like Thresh and Blitzcrank lotsa times.

for Sona, it's a bit harder cause U can get punished more easily for her more aggressive playstyle

  • poke behind minions (this is HUGE. the more dmg U dish out safely, the less likely they would want to engage and the less likely for an all-in to end in their favor)
  • punish them when they miss hooks (thresh is a bit more iffy cause he can still engage with flay and ult and stuff)
  • poke them A LOT (doesn't matter if it's the tanky support or the adc, hit 'em both) but,
  • never get hooked (this kinda seems obvious, but it's not totally impossible to do. with minion waves and the nature of being a ranged champ, there aren't gonna be many opening for them to engage without them, in turn, being punished for it // thresh hook is a bit more forgiving as the amount of danger ur in is inversely proportional to the distance that U got hooked from, a thresh that lands a hook on you from max distance isn't likely gonna get a decent engage out of it vs a blizcrank pull)
  • post 6, U can use their grabs as a reliable initiation....FOR YOURSELF to use Cresendo (input queueing OP)
  • during all-in focus the adc (compared to their dmg blitzcrank and thresh don't really hurt that much, especially if U began lane with MR flats/scaling. If U've been doing the above well, a 1v1 against their adc with yours on board should end in your favor)

for Soraka, I use a less popular skill order =w=

  • go W build
  • only Q poke if it's safe to do so
  • if U use coin (like I do) the range for passive gold is the same as exp range, allowing U to stand so far back that it'll confuse enemies and allies alike
  • if Ur adc is gud, he/she will probably recognize the playstyle and go moderately aggro, making small trades to be healed up by ur OP W scaling and CD (you'll have to adjust your positioning accordingly), buuuut
  • if enemy botlane goes aggro cause of Ur playstyle, U can probably use spam heal ur adc through laning phase, worst comes to worst, you'll only be down a few deaths after laning. -in all-ins you should be able to outheal enemy support's dmg to your adc by MILES, so it'd moreso come down to their adc vs your adc.

The most important part that I'd like to share, is that Sona and Soraka scale super well into mid and late game. Sure blitz can get that lucky pull sometimes, but they can either save him from dying or competently guide their team through a 4v5

When I started League back in the late part of season 4, I remember my first match vs a Blitzcrank. It was obscene.

I dont even know how this thread exists. For the longest time if you said something about Blitz being too much, legions of elitist would come out of the woodwork to tell you how fucking bronze piece of shit you were and if you cant play vs a Blitz the worst champion in the game then you need to uninstall.

Now hes been up in the 54% win range a few times, though hes only averaging about 53% at the moment. That win% has had other champs nerfed swiftly, but the problem with Blitz, is his busted ass broke kit that could do 1/3 of the damage it dose now, but still offer those damned hooks to his team.

Iv said this several times, hooking supports are toxic, they make lazy players who just expect kills to be served up to them on silver platters, and they overshadow other supports. How many other supports land a Q and it just results in an insta-gib? Not many, and those are probably hook supports if you named any:

Blitzcrank Leona Thresh Nautilus

Leo and Naut have the distinction of traveling TOO their hooked target, Thresh meets them in the middle, and only Blitz pulls you a MILE AWAY from any help, then proceeds to combo you in a series of perfect CC maneuvers to stop you from getting away. It wouldnt be so bad but his level 6 combo can damn near kill you by itself not to mention an ADC chiming in with their attacks, and if they have any CC just forget it, YOU ARE DEAD, why? Cause a support Q'd you. You wernt outplayed, or some massive teamwork initiative was launched to score a kill, no a support hit with a Q then rolled their face on their keyboard.... sounds legit.

Blitzcrank is like a few other champs in this game, hes either the devil and one of the reasons your team cant win a teamfight, or hes useless and has been doing nothing but missing hooks all game.

Having to lane against him is such a pain in the ass too. Both ADC and Support trying to hide behind 3 warrior minions just so they dont lose their lane, and if you get hooked, open up the shop screen.... walk of shame back to bot-lane.

Last but not least, if they have a skin, I mute them immediately, cause I know theyre just going to "zone by presence" and all Im going to hear over and over is "the time of man has come to an end."

The only support champs who actually counter blitz are those like Leona who can survive all-ins and turn it around on the enemy ADC. Otherwise you just get zoned out of the entire lane because you're scared to get pulled. That's NOT good champ design. Even if he does miss, that doesn't even really mean much. Just means the ADC can CS a little safer. They'll probably both back off a bit, not allowing you to make plays. Typical 'i can get you but you can't get me' little shit playstyle

Fair Champion4 votes

I'd wager to say that both Morgana and Thresh also counter Blitz, or check him at the very least. If a Blitz is in lane against a Morgana, he's going to have a pretty terrible time if she's any good (I know from experience). Wasting a hook on a spell shield is devastating for Blitz, as it makes the next 17 seconds a time when he can do absolutely nothing if the enemy duo tries to all-in. As Blitz, I've always had difficult games against Thresh, too. If you hook their ADC, Thresh can leave a lantern behind them and the ADC will take a significantly lower amount of damage than he might have otherwise. If you hook the Thresh himself, then he can easily use his flay to disengage, which should delay Blitz's knockup punch. If he's feeling aggressive, he can use that as his own opportunity to all-in, setting up a Box and using a Flay of his own, while also saving the hook for later. Of course, a Blitz hook in the late game into the enemy team usually means certain doom for your opponents. Blitz is a really fun champion to play, but he's among the most anti-fun bot lane presences to play against.

Lets forget about the grab for a second and ask ourselves why this motherfucker has 2 abilities with 100% AP ratio's, like WTF.

IcyPepper2 votes

As much as I don't like Blitz...

His passive scales off current mana, his Q costs 100 mana even at rank 1 and has a high cooldown, and so on.

He has a 200% AP ratio in his full combo. The only reason this is balanced is because he can't exactly poke you with it, it's an all-in. There's a reason he's not built like a mage, he has to build like a tank (or tank support) because he will get poked to death when his Q is off cooldown.

If full AP Blitzcrank was viable, Riot would likely nerf it. But his weaknesses prevent that from ever becoming the case, thank god. Can you imagine if it was, though?

The base damages, however, should concern you more. Numbers without context are useless, but when you apply context you realize the AP ratios are not the issue when it comes to his damage (I believe).

to be fair, most of them(especially the meta ones) are overloaded.

it's not like braum/alistar/kench have much for defined strengths(high defensive capabilities+high offensive capabilities+possibly high damage+very tanky) ,or even things like lulu and nami aren't particularly with well defined strengths and weaknesses either.

Yes,he's more overloaded than them(or any other thing in this game for that matter),but minor numerical nerfs can put him out of dominance(the whole "thresh can't be nerfed" is a load of bullshit,we've seen plenty of supports become more contested than him,but riot nerfs them for it),riot is just unwilling to do so,thresh is the strongest support by intention, and if that is ever challenged-his competition is nerfed.

The odd thing about Blitz is, as someone else already pretty much said, he doesn't actually have to do anything to be intimidating. In fact, it's when he doesn't try to pull you at all for a very long time that it puts you totally on edge, whether you're the marksman or the support.

You ever lane super-cautiously against a weaving Blitz, trying your hardest not to screw up your positioning and trying to bait his Q out, but he doesn't cast his Q freaking even once for like five minutes straight? Scares the hell out of you, doesn't it? You can't tell if he's just trying to intimidate you or he's legitimately waiting for you to drop your guard because he's actually a freaking God at it, he just wants you to lose focus first.

It really does scare the hell out of you when you come across a Blitz who refuses to swing and miss at any point. His presence alone scares you.
