sion jungle masteries?

So I've been playing a lot of sion as of late and the new masteries got me messed up currently I'm running 12/0/18 with the grasp of the undying mastery, but in the resolve tree the tier 2 masteries are a choice between 8% max health, or a % increase to your shields and healing. Which is better to use?

Between the shield/heal buff and the % max health, I'd choose max health every time. Sion already stacks health because of W, which makes the bonus % even more potent than usual. Additionally, since his shield scales off of his health, having more health means more shield indirectly. Overall, having more health boosts his defense by a lot more than more shields, because it is basically double dipping in effectiveness.

8% more of 4000 health is 160 health. His shield has a 10% HP scaling at max rank, so it will give 416 with the health bonus, on top of the base for a total of 546. With the bonus applying only to shields, his shield at 4000 health (530) is increased to 583. The difference between the shield values is 37, which means for any given fight, you have to use your shield more than 4 times each fight for the shield bonus to give you more total effective health.

I run Sion jungle with 0/18/12.

Then either stormraider for cheesy passive, dont recommend that one lol

But mostly Thunderlords decree. Resolve gives me some sustain, with bigger shields. Cunning gives mana regen bonus dmg vs monsters longer buffs, like red blue herald rift scuttler but also raptors krugs gromp etc etc. And the hybrid pen which is awesome on Sion

Thunderlords decree just gives me a bigger burst damage to my combo when i gank so that is the main reason.

I find the first 12 points for resolve tree good but, all the keystones are lackluster you really do not need to put in more then 12 points.

Once you hit lvl 6 your ganks, provided you are good with Sion ultimate, becomequite strong. Sion at this point has pretty good burst with ult + w + e + q Thunderlords decree increases this burst. Makes getting kills a whole lot easier !!

Jungle masteries on Sion should be pretty flexible. It might help to follow Phreak's advice and choose one of the 9 keystones you want and then build around that. All three of the Resolve Keystones are good on Sion, as long as you think you can hit champions after 4 seconds in combat. Deathfire Touch in the Ferocity tree is okay if you build some AD instead of straight tank, but the other two aren't very good for Sion. In the Cunning tree, Stormraider's Surge is good if you can get a combo onto squishies, and might even proc during your passive, which would be awesome. Thunderlord's Decree adds a little bit of damage to your initial combo, but won't help you in longer fights. Windspeaker's Blessing increases your shield strength, but I wouldn't recommend it.

To answer your question: % health is almost always going to be better on Sion. Even in the jungle, you should be able to get enough bonus health from your W passive to get one of the highest "base" health champions. You should probably be building Cinderhulk, because it gives 15% increased bonus health, which includes the health you get from your W passive. % increase on shield and healing (including regen) does make your shield slightly stronger and increases the lifesteal from your jungle item and your passive as well as your base regen, but Sion is built around health-stacking, not around his shield or passive.

Personally, I like going 0/12/18, with Wanderer, Runic Affinity, Merciless, Dangerous Game and Unyielding, Explorer, Veteran's Scars, Insight, Legendary Guardian, Bond of Stone. I build Cinderhulk and Titantic Hydra, and then pick up items with health and armor or mr, like Randuin's, Deadman's Plate, Locket of the Iron Solari, Banshee's Veil.

Personally I run the 8% max health. But now that I think about it, the shield increase would work great for his W and his passive (give or take). I tend to run him top lane and I haven't tried jungle yet. Though I might end up mixing in a bit of both and seeing how that works.

Grasp of the undying is awesome!

Not sure if this works well. Has anyone tried using Summoner's insight in the Resolve tree to reduce the CD of smite? I was thinking that CDR on smite may help with clear speed. (and making the smite buffs available more often.)
