Off Meta supports can work!

So I am a support Ashe main.. that's right. and I take my support job seriously

I ward well and keep my team alive on top of setting up kills (need to work on my ward clearing tho tbh)

I used to main sona and thresh but last season when juggernauts came out I used Ashe to get me to plat (her slows counter them so hard)

now at first glance my build may look and sound troll however more games then not I do more damage the the adc and sometimes more then both teams. and yes I know support don't need damage but hear me out

mercs/sorcs (depends on how well you doing and how many stuns they have) Sight stone (well duh) frost queen (its active is op plus it lets you do more damage in lane) Zekes (boosts crit and ap. both you will be using. and crit on the adc or ap on the apc. works either way) Linadry (I know I know. but that's a ap item and Ashe has only one ap skill. well guess what. it scales on magic pen and enemies hp on top if they are slowed or other cc.. volley procs it and it does double damage) Black cleaver (this items is to finish off your max cdr. and because your volley is so low cool down you shred the enemies armor rather quickly)

as for masteries I go with 18/12/0 get deathfire touch and the magic pen on top of the extra damage to slowed enemies and the boosted ally damage in the 12 I get mana regen runes you can go ad or tankish. but I like to go with ap and magic pen due to late game burns

I want more people to know that just because some one picks something that's not "LCS" it doesn't mean its bad or they are trolling. I also want to hear of more odd supports that work well.

TLDR: Support Ashe stronk

Off meta picks tend to be off meta for one reason or another. Mostly do to being impractical. Ashe support could work, but relies on the opponent not having an engage or peel and dying a lot in the early game, since your team will have 2 adcs.

As a personal rule I never flame off meta picks and rarely speak negatively about it. (Unless it's really stupid like shaco support)

Just note one thing.

If your gonna play off meta, don't feed. Good way to kill a teams cooperation is for the entire team bitching bout an off meta pick feeding.

I actually have no problems against engage teams as I can kite an poke them down. most trouble I have is against teams with yas or soraka I also do well against assassins and extremely well against juggernauts

as far as support shaco goes. ive done this as well and generally do pretty good but then again I don't sit in the brush stacking boxes all day either

Shaco support is legit if used correctly. He's also the ultimate counter to Thresh and Blitz, as his boxes not only zone them away from the bushes, but can also block the hooks.

He just can't do much against healers, as he relies on heavy poke.

well well i actually did shaco support with redsmite and bloodrazor into full tank a while back

guess what it worked

if you don't have item 2049 its trolling

Not necessarily, I played with a Nami who didn't get SS but my whole team did a fantastic job keeping up wards. As long as the support isn't the only one putting wards up then it can work fine.

Just because it can work doesn't mean there aren't better supports out there. I find hard to truly believe you played support to plat. You may have played some games of it on your way there but I doubt you really played only support Ashe to plat.

ImTheSideKick1 votes

actually all I did play was support and very few of the games was I thresh or morg. most of my games was ashe support

I remember a Shaco adc and a Blitzcrank support. It was on Youtube. Hilarious. Shaco can work bot lane. XD

I mean... ashe's secondary is support

thank you for noticing <3

Ashe support is one of the stronger off-meta supports, but she doesn't work in all team comps.

Very fun to play though :>

All sorts of weird off-meta stuff can work.

We almost lost to an all-Smite team. They didn't even show up botlane first 10 minutes. They were wandering around grabbing all the jungle stuff and dragons. :D

leblanc suport rocks

i have 70k on her and i dont even know how to play her ap or mid lane lol

ImTheSideKick1 votes

I have support LB as well. its so fun. and if played right you can split up the enemy team so hard

3tyson1 votes

45% cdr 3 constant flashs to ward/dodge skilshots and bait a clone to bait 3 snares with e - r - e r gonne keep u locked for 5 seconds if i build tanky

if team needs splitpusher gets runa and static

ImTheSideKick1 votes

I like max cdr 45% with rylias can double jump and slow every thing and poof you gone only to do it again 5 seconds later and even building tank you can burst a squishy its unreal. and as you said its soooo easy to ward with lb

3tyson1 votes

if your team loses teamfight just jump right in the midle of the enemy team ( since your tank ) and than get out and take them for a nice walk all around sumoners rift until your team respawns because fuck it your leblanc

ImTheSideKick1 votes

I did that once and they didn't follow and instead tried to baron without a jungler.... I stole that >.>

Zero Shingetsu1 votes

Sure they can. I often run AP Nasus when I support. No Q until level 10. I have about a 75% win rate with that pick. I also used to use Rammus and LeBlanc to great effect, though LeBlanc is less effective since she lost her silence...

Friendly Ram1 votes

Huh the build seems really nice tbh. Never seen a good ashe support but you seem to know lots.

ImTheSideKick1 votes

never seen me play then :p

As long as you're not yi, kat, or lucian, you can do something that offers utility (although sometimes it's impractically tied up in the ult), and that utility+sightstone is enough to get you through games at all but the highest elos, provided you're actually good at supporting with whatever champ and your team doesn't insta-tilt by the off meta.

One off-meta supp that would work very well in theory is Gnar... but it's beyond skill-based...You have to be a God to do it correctly.

Maybe in high ranks, up until gold people will probably not see the rage bar until it's too late

The problem is you have to hop behind the enemy ADC and then use your ultimate to throw them into a wall or under your tower. IT'S EXTREMELY HARD TO PULL OFF AND MECHANICALLY INTENSIVE!

One good thing about Gnar supp is you get TONS of Kages procs though. Tons.

TequilaZombie1 votes

It's not THAT hard. My mechanics are shitty and I can pull it off consistently. Granted that Gnar is one of my old mains, but it's not something hard to do.

Wait for red bar, position yourself, E on a minion, R towards a wall. He can one shot most ADCs and Supports with his full combo at level 6.

I like doing support Miss Fortune(although I haven't in a long while). I max my E and rush Rylais for the AOE slow and then I go for Frozen Gauntlet for more slows.

Ashe isn't as great as she was. When she had a toggle slow on her Q, it worked much better. It was stronger, and you could leave it on at all times, since you won't be CSing.

Honestly, Cait works better now for Support. She has a free escape, and she can harass all game with AA and traps. And traps only cost 20 mana, and there is no chance of them pushing the lane by accident.

I used to play GP support before his rework. It worked amazing! I had a high winrate with him, in ranked too.
