Patch 7.4: Blade of the Ruined King Changes

So for those of you unaware, there are some big changes happening with Blade of the Ruined King in the PBE right now.

Let me get this out of the way first, the only things they're not changing are the 8% current HP damage on-hit and the movement speed steal on the active. They're buffing the AD, the Lifesteal and the Minimum On-Hit Damage, but they're nerfing the AS and removing the 10% Target Max HP Damage and the 10% Target Max HP Heal entirely.

Here are the calculations for Blade of the Ruined King's Current and New Gold-Efficiency, factoring out the 8% Current HP On-hit and the MS steal because those are the same for both versions.

Current BotRK: 25 AD - 875 gold 40% AS - 1000 gold 10 LS - 375 gold 10 On-hit Dmg - 250 gold Gold Efficiency - 2500/3400 = 73.53%

New BotRK: 45 AD - 1575 gold 25% AS - 625 gold 15 LS - 562.5 gold 15 On-hit Dmg - 375 gold Gold Efficiency - 3137.5/3400 = 92.28%

So you gain 18.75% more gold efficiency (637.5 gold) in base stats, but lose:

10% Target Max HP Active Dmg 10% Target Max HP Heal Current Worth: 3400 - 2500 = 900 gold.

Overall, at least gold-efficiency wise, Blade of the Ruined King is getting a net nerf of 262.5 gold worth of stats. I feel like this would be an acceptable change if they just reduced Blade of the Ruined King's cost down from 3400 gold to 3150 gold.

What do you guys think?

its a buff, simply because it isn't garbage to rush it now, so you can actually use it early on when the enemy has a bit of health but hasn't had time to stack a lot of armor.

It should be alright after these changes.

You must remember that many champs have AD scaling abilities meaning that the extra 20 AD can more then likely be applied 6+ times. While marksmen might buy the item itis also a common buy by many fighters like Irelia, Jax, Trynda and Xin. And I recall seeing a high ranked rivne players several years ago loving BotRK when it has 40 AD but that was also with the active.

While the loss of the active damage might be a bummer the only champs who are arguably really hating this are Trynda and perhaps Vayne who are extremely reliant on autop attacks for their damage but even then they will likely be alright with 20 more AD.

Remember that this is still in testign and could be changed or completely pulled.

While the numbers you bring up say it is a nerf in gold efficiency in practical application it is actually likely about the same in a longer fight which seems to be something riot is working towards given what is on the PBE.

If anything these changes are making it more ideal all around and less niche for only really tanky enemy teams. (the 20 AD is more valuable for contending with squishies)

That being said I do find it annoying seeing more life steal being added but that should be manageable.

You have a point, but a chunk of BotRK's power budget was in that active damage plus heal, and now it's just gone. The melee auto-attackers like Xin Zhao and Jax might also suffer because they don't really have good AD scalings, and the new BotRK is losing 1.25 daggers worth of attack speed.

I don't think that Jax and Xin players wil lbe up in arms over these changes. It is a change in focus of power but it is not killing the item for auto heavy fighters.

It is not like when Riot tried to make Trinity force a marksmen item and cut the attack speed in half just so they could double the crit chance for what was clearly targeted at Ezreal and being combined with essence reaver. Not even Ezreal players went for that.

In my opinion, I think Triforce just indirectly became a whole lot more appealing to Jax and Xin Zhao players because the new BotRK no longer has 40% AS.

Irelia Bot1 votes

The only thing I would likely do is keep it at 40% attack speed and 10% lifesteal.

The rest of the changes seem to be reasonable.

I agree. If they're gonna keep it at 3400 gold, I wish they would have kept the AS at least.

Your calculation on the active (Current Worth: 3400 - 2500 = 900 gold) is not accurate, because it does not take in account the MS steal part in the whole price of the item.

Even though it is a nerf to champions who really benefits from AS and do not need crits (Kalista), I thinks it is an overall buff. Because it will be less of a niche item, and might be completed at different moments.

As a rush item, I think the dueling power will still be there. It remains a cheaper/earlier powerspike than BFsword+Zeal-item and vs squishies, the added AD has more value than the %health.
If you need to shred tanks, you can then follow with more AS to benefit from the on-hit passive. You can buy it midgame and go BF > Runaan's > BOTRK > IE on Jinx and Caitlyn, for example. The added AD has synergy with crits and the %health damage is still there. If you want to build it late game, the added lifesteal and AD make it a more viable alternative to the BT when facing tanks.

Though, the damage deletion on the active hurts (since it comes from the Cutlass). They could have put it to 5%... The 15 min damage is normal (from Bow). I hope they will increase the AS to 30% at least.

I wouldn't call it a nerf or a buff, just a change.

Not really a nerf or buff. Just a tweak.

A buff for AD Casters who like it Renekton Irelia

Nerf for Marksman who like it (Less attack speed) Twitch Quinn

I think Irelia will miss the attack speed because of her true damage and on hit healing so i doubt it will be a net buff for her.

I think this Botrk looks weaker generally, it is much less ad than the other ad items and champs that like attack speed will prefer the older one.

Are they removing or changing the active? I can't tell from the wording here. It doesn't mean anything.

They are removing the Damage and Heal from the Active, but keeping the MS steal.

with current Bork it does 8% of the targets current health, when your fighting big tanky dudes that 45 isn't going to do as much compared to the current passive which (I'm pretty sure) also pairs up with your auto dmg allowing adc to unload dumb amounts of dmg on tanks (but with current armor stacking is cut by around 45% by the time you build Bork). I like to have a build that will zone anything away from me. Without the passive I'll get dived by the fed tank. And with the extra AS you can get atleast 1 extra hit in.

As for early game you don't need that much AD when it's paired with the passive even if the opponent has 500 health it's still doing a considerable amount of dmg when combined with the base AD of champs. For adcs it's a better all around pick than crit which can get stomped by a fed tank and a bad start to the game. But in games in which the tanks aren't fed then crit is better. As for melee champs, only the ones with good AD Scalings benefit , BUT tank shredding won't be nearly as good and to get to the backline often you can't ignore the front line.

Ontop of that the extra 20 AD when put up against damage reduction will only give you a couple more points of dmg vs a tank with atleast 2K health and around (40% dmg reduction a tank with about 600 gold lead) your only gonna deal about around 75 dmg per auto. Assuming you get Bork 1st item at around 15 minutes.

Champ lvl at 15 mins is about 10-15 (if someone could tell me that would be awesome) but even at lvl 15 at 15 mins with Bork as first item for irelia fighting a tank with 40% dmg reduction she will only deal 65 dmg per auto. And she has higher AD per level and base AD than many adcs who on average have a base of 55 AD and 2.4 AD per level. AND they are duo lane so they are atleast a level behind the top laner and mid. Now compare the 8% current health and it's obvious that vs tanks there's a huge difference.

xxxDogmanxxx2 votes

They're not removing the 8% current health damage from the passive. They're removing the 10% max health damage and the 10% max health heal from the active.

Trick question - it's both. It's just an item change - but champions which previously may have relied on the item will now opt for other choices, while those which never or rarely considered it before may give it a second look.

For some champions, it will be a nerf - the Attack Speed Champs (esp ranged types) and those players who took Master Yi and/or Tryndamere as a splitpusher will find it very nerfy. The loss of Attack Speed does hurt a few champs in that way.

The increase in Attack Damage and LS however, could work for the bruiser types though (Darius or Wukong maybe?).

Kindred main here. Im done rito, why u do this to me. Untill now Kindred seemed just a bit underpowered for the effort one has to put in them. I dont mind that really, as i like a challenge and its fun. A tiny buff would be welcomed however. Botrk seemed to be one of the few AS items that Kindred did not waste gold on. The other ones being Wits end (situational) and the other bloodrazor obviously. Otherwise theres not much a Kindred player could build and not waste atleast some gold on crits or ad, of which Kindred dont really benefit much, due to their poor AD scalings. I know RITO said they dont want BotrK to be an item just for aa based build, but tell me, wth do i build now. This change is essentially another Kindred nerf. I know this is a threat about BotrK but the Black Cleaver "tweak" fucks Kindred even worse, the stats i don't really mind but the buildpath? Im done. Ty Rito. Maybe its finally time to consider some buffs if theese changes go trough?

I don't know if you remember but zed old build used to be bork so i think this will be better for ad casters like Zed Ezreal . Champs like these will benefit from this change
