Should a voice chat system be implemented?

In almost any esport, a voice chat system is in place for teammates to communicate. This goes for FPS games like COD/counterstrike to games like Leagues/DOTA. Dynamic queue has a lot of issues that people are unhappy with but I think it's fair to say that an official voice chat system would solve a lot of problems. Riot has explicitly said that they did not want players to feel they needed to dig out third party apps in order to stay competitive

However, at this point that simply is not true. How one sided would LCS be if one team had no voice chat and the other did? Soloq players are hurting the most from dynamic queue. They have no idea if their teammates are even premade at all or if there's some voice call going on that they're not a part of.

I get that there are a lot of problems with a voice chat system. it would be hard to police for toxicity. And it would establish a "expectation" that a player had a mic or communicated more.

I'm curious to hear you guy's thoughts. I'm personally in favor of one being implemented but I feel like it'd be a pretty drastic change. [slayer-jinx-catface]

This isnt something I would want. I think its a good idea on paper and would theoretically be good for the game itself, but I have 0 confidence in the community to be mature and use it appropriately. Even if most people can be decent, and theres a mute option, I wouldnt want to potentially subject myself every game to sexist or offensive comments. ATM I can avoid personal attacks by remaining anonymous which would be lost if voice chat was expected every game.

Yeah I understand that being a female or a foreigner would make you an open target for discrimination. But there needs to be some sort of way for soloq players to keep up with premade levels of communication. It's getting a bit frustrating to get 4 man ganked with no mia because the premades were communicating in skype. [slayer-jinx-catface]

I don't think voice chat would help this game at all. Especially not when I have instance of games where players start flaming the Jungler, begging the rest of the team to let them have a kill because they got behind, immediately start in a shit mood because they got counterpicked hard and "insertname is the most BS OP champ ever I give up," and just general nastiness. I can ignore written chat fairly easily, but when that garbage is being injected directly into my brain, I'll end up wanting to shoot my computer. So no, listening to people scream, rant, and rage about how they are the victim of a bad team and shit ganks is not something I want to be subjected to.

well the idea is that a lot of the situations you mention would be avoided because your team is communicating better.

It is really a question of what the players want. Most players don't have a mic and/or don't want to communicate vocally with their teammates (oftentimes you can't blame them). The only thing this might possibly offer is a little bit of convenience.

Like i want to listen to screaming 12 yr olds telling me how they fked my mom. Kappa

The difference is this isn't like COD where you can go full rambo by yourself and win. Your team has to work together so it gives incentive to be nice at the start. Plus, according to riot most of the playerbase is 18+ (they released an infograph a few years back)

Flaming will still be prevalent. In fact it would get worse. The voice chat would be neat but this community cant handle it

To be honest, its not hard to lie about your age when signing up for a video game.

I wouldn't even use it due to the people I get in most games lol. It'd by default be disabled for me and if I had to guess a majority of the community as well.

For me, when curse voice first came out and in the brief few weeks that it was expected for you to have it and to join calls, I found it to be a very pleasant experience. Most people go into ranked trying to win so there was that incentive to work together from the get go. Riot said that they found it to be more toxic so maybe I just got lucky. I'm still open to the idea.

I don't think it's necessary, even with the advantages of communicating more detailed plays a couple seconds in advance. When I played Smite and we had the system that allows us to shout out every play or call we wanted to make with just a couple button presses, I know almost everything I did could easily be done in League in the same time with a ping or a quick message that takes less than a second to type out. It's not like extremely tense FPS games where the second you move your hand away from the mouse to type you can get killed by a sniper a thousand feet away. There's so much downtime that typing and talking doesn't make much of a difference.

When you're doing an early game towerdive, those instances can count for a lot. Knowing if your team is willing to back you up, what tools they have available, what spells your opponent have are not things you can communicate with pings/typed chat alone. I've certainly seen ballsier tower dives from premades in voice chats a lot more since dynamic queue came out

I think if people wanted to win, they would use every tool available to them to do so.

This is why I always have a chat program open, and paste the link to my curse voice chat when I get in a ranked game. And people don't join. Because they don't want to win.

I dont think so. THis game is not like others. People tend to rage more on here than i notice on other games.

You see in game all the time 2 or more people arguing. You tell them to mute each other and they would rather see what the other person is saying and argue rather than mute each other.

So if they can hear each other then it would be even worse.....because now you have to hear it too....unless you mute them....but then whats the point of having it?

If people don't discriminate yordles then sure.

But that will never happen because people do. And how will automated bans ban people if the toxicity comes from the voice chat part?

OhWanderer1 votes

That and stupid kids wouldnt be able to troll as hard because you will be able to tell by their voice if they are a 12 year old or not.

I feel like it'd just serve as an easier way to flame, but that's just my opinion

So when there is a toxic player on my team, I have to actually listen to them cussing me out instead of just having to read it? Its bad enough when I join random Discord servers, I don't want to have that forced on me.
