Switching Roles.

So I've been playing purely support this season. I love it. Sona is my jam. However, I think I'm gonna have to give her up if I want to climb. I've noticed that more often than not, myself and whichever ADC I'm with will win our lane, but, snowballing the bottom lane just really doesn't seem as effective as it once was.

The main issues I'm seeing in Bronze are:

  1. Vision.
  2. Deaths.
  3. Flaming.

Matches tend to go something like this.

Garen top v Riven. The Garen thinks he is way too tanky to die at 2 minutes, so he goes in for a fight against the riven, surely with his regen he can out trade her and push her from lane. Unfortunately, Rivens jungle has just finished his red buff and swings on by to get Riven an early kill. Garen is sure this is luck so he tp's back to lane and rushed Riven. Who has also tp'd back with some shiny new items. She kills him again. This is impossible. Garen runs back to lane, his turret is at half health, he pushed out to Rivens turret, only to see her pop out in the mid lane and secure a kill. He has yet to ward his jungle, neither has the mid lane. However, mid is furious with top now. He hurls a few insults into the chat at Garen. Who responds in kind. While he's typing he get's jumped by Riven and her Jungle, he dies again. He loses first blood tower.

The enemy team is now 4 kills ahead and has more gold.

I'm sure in higher elo, this match is still manageable. However in Bronze. This is the point of no return. The Garen will never think to farm under turret. He'll race headfirst into the un-warded jungle in search of the Riven with quarter health, he'll run into the enemy team and die. He'll do this over and over and over.

It is for this reason that I can't play support anymore, what good is a 2/0/7 Sona against a 10/2/1 Riven.

I'm going to have to start focusing on top lane because I understand something simple about the game. I don't care if I get a kill. I care about taking turrets. My focus for the early game is to farm more than my opponent and to die less. Not to kill more. I think it is for that reason alone that I will be able to climb. I'm no master at the game, I make stupid mistakes way too often, but I can look at my match history and see that my deaths never go into the double digits. I rarely even die more than 3 times.

Hell, all I have to do to carry games is not die. For the most part I think that will give the bot lane a chance to carry me in the late game.

What luck have you guys had with certain roles and the climb through ranked?
