Why did rioters stop commenting in this section?

Swarovsko·7/14/2019, 2:16:35 AM·27 votes·11,773 views

I quit the game 2 years ago so I stopped looking at the boards/reddit for a while, but now that I'm back I noticed how VERY rarely compared to before rioters engage on discussions being made here. Sure, the gameplay boards have always been very unreasonable and toxic towards rioters, but that was NOT the whole section. It was balanced (and it looks like it still is) around healthy discussions and toxic ones. What happened? DId they get tired of this section? Did they say anything in regards this situation?

Mostly because most of the post here can be boiled down to "This thing beat me, thus it needs nerfs."

Pxerkza7/14/2019, 2:31:44 AM9 votes

because the boards is a cespool filled with tears and riot haters nobody gives any constructive ideas/criticism everyone explaining how things work gets downvoted people that get frustrated by the ignorance and hate get their posts removed by mods because not being respectful

ie the board mods support trashing on riot but the moment you say something negative towards an individual it's a no-no

all the combined there is absolutely 0 value to the boards for riot they can give their 2cents from time to time about changes and reworks here but the replies tend to not be of any value and are mostly omg riot pls don't change this omg riot stop omg no pls you have not idea what you are doing omg you should be fired...

because riot figures that ignoring the community is better than interacting with it.

which is, ofc, wrong.

you don't make people like you more by completely ignoring them, failing to explain your design choices, and utterly refusing to interact with your community.

edit: I love how half of the comments here are "cause they suck and aren't constructive at all"

and this is one of the top posts right now

https://boards.na.leagueoflegends.com/en/c/gameplay-balance/E2ikbKET-proposal-twisted-treeline-gameplay-update-new-game-mode-more-riot-mort-meddler

zero interaction from rioters.

I personally love how boards has this mass of different groups that all contradict eachother. Tank items suck. Magic resist makes tanks unkillable. Magic resist doesn't do anything. Assassins are overpowered, fighters are overpowered, mages are overpowered, ADC's are overpowered. What about the supports? oh we have complaints about that too. Jungling sucks. Junglers have too much influence. ETC it just keeps on going around and around. Somehow people actually think there is a simple answer to every problem and their answer is just make the thing I don't like unusable. Worse my god the arguments are so bad for the overwhelming majority of post. The hot page is full of memes and people actually think it's going to convince anyone. My favorite personally are the this is overpowered/underpowered post just ignore all the statistics. My feelings are what should determine if someone is too strong or weak. Then insert yasuo somehow.

Because this section doesn't believe in "unbiased and constructive discussion"

The average post in this section is

"x champion beat me so it needs nerfs"

"I am too lazy to learn to play vs Vayne/Zed/Riven/Yasuo so Riot should nerf them"

None of the posts here are constructive.

Hordes667/14/2019, 4:52:11 PM6 votes

Because they're a bunch of pansy snowflakes that can't handle criticism.

Kanzler7/14/2019, 12:13:59 PM5 votes

Because they use reddit instead of their own boards

I mean just look at this post that was directly underneath your post. Do you think this is a good post to generate constructive discussion that will help improve the state of the game? What suggestions did the OP of that post make to help generate solutions to problems he thinks exists in the game? And what could the Rioter say to the OP to create any meaningful dialogue?

DalekZec7/14/2019, 12:10:01 PM5 votes

They're afraid someone doesn't agree with their design or any balance changes. Duh.

Apparently critics aren't allowed in that Chinese company.

MasterDClone7/15/2019, 4:02:49 AM4 votes

not one of these threads again, its the same shit as it was 2 years ago, all you're doing is getting the angry people in the community to rant, we have a section for that now

OP Garen Support7/14/2019, 11:07:34 PM4 votes

Because the boards is not censored like the dick sucking community on reddit. Riot hates criticism and they ignore any form of feedback anyway.

PaffWasTaken7/15/2019, 3:00:41 AM4 votes

Because Riot has been forcing their own idealogy onto the game for several years now, so this caused some sort of general negative feedback from the community, so they are plainly and simply ignoring anything that they don't agree with.

They've been slowly moving League of Legends away from the concept of "game" to bring it closer to some sort of sport, visual entertainment and generic popular universe. They also forced a meta based on their favorite playerbase, AKA eastern China and Korea, to drain as much revenue from the game as possible.

This is generally not very welcome amongst the community, and this includes the gameplay boards, that some Rioters consider (I'm not even exagerating anything) as utterly useless, the reason behind such statement being very unprecise, but we can believe it is because the playerbase disagree with the direction the developpers has been utterly FORCING the game into, so they are basically blocking their ears like children because they don't like whats coming from the community.

This doesn't even limit itself to the gameplay boards: Riot and its employees have been avoiding anything that is conversation on balance with actual players, only making statement on balance from what THEY personally think about the game on their personnal twitter accounts. Some months ago, a Rioter started duoing with Hashinshin while discussing balance. The Rioter gave minimum feedback on balance conversation with Hashinshin and we pretty much never heard again of anything that could've be the consequence of this encounter and not a single Rioter did a comparable action ever since.

Some people here might argue that they are ignoring the boards because of the toxicity and the unviability on the feedback here, but this is just a bland excuse since actual feedback does exist here and developped discussion about balance existed back in the day where the game was mostly appreciated by everyone (AKA barely anyone would give feedback on balance compaired to what its like today). Those who does agree with riot abandonning any gameplay-related relation with the community will also tell that people who complain are salty because of the state of the game, which is highly ironic (and, frankly, also quite moronic if I say so) since their arguments are only justifiable by the fact that they are salty themselves about the fact that some people do care about having a balanced game rather than something they can abuse with meta or cheesing.

So, TLDR: Riot shifted the game into a direction a lot of people disagree it, but they want it to stay this way so they willingly ignore the community because of it. This causes also a vocal portion of the community to protest against people disagreeing with Riot, this certain portion having few and shady arguments who are pretty much all variations of "people are salty and I'm not lol"

DARCKD00M7/14/2019, 1:12:23 PM4 votes

they only care about lore and sht that we can create so they make money out of it

we are money cows now nothing else, get brainwashed and be a meta lane pushing zombie like us!

Naalith7/14/2019, 4:28:07 AM3 votes

Because like 90% of people aren't happy with the game, but the balance Rioters can't do anything to please the people because pro play and foreign markets make up far more of the money League makes than English speaking "real players" now. If they say they'll fix things but can't without compromising pro play people get mad, if they say they won't do anything because of pro play people get mad, etc. There's basically no winning strategy to make people happy because the game isn't made for us. Lore Rioters show up a lot more often because the English-speaking lore team can interact with us and give us clues and insights on stories, plus the written stuff is super cool. I just wish the game would get back onto more even footing.

Anatera7/14/2019, 5:29:32 PM3 votes

Because they have no good answers.

Nea1047/14/2019, 11:38:44 PM2 votes

They ignored the Boards when a lot of people were saying "New runes are a mistake". They made a lot of further mistakes after that (huge) one, ie. many of the new "flashy" champions, leaving untouched for weeks or months totally broken ones, and also just gutting the BE/OE loot.

3 months ago a Rioter tried to communicate here, "thanking" the community, but still he couldn't answer to any of the issues going on. I think it was a bit embarassing for him, actually ( https://boards.na.leagueoflegends.com/en/c/general-discussion/nX38a2jE-thank-you-everyone?comment=000900000002 ).

Point is, they've lost tons of players, and the game is still in a bad state. TFT doesn't seem a solution either.

They have no more excuses about the current state of the game, so at least they're saving some of the dignity left. Maybe one day they'll start to improve things again, and will know what to say here.

Linna Excel7/14/2019, 10:53:39 PM1 votes

They'd rather post on twitter.
