It surprised me in a good way. I wasn't expecting to see skins that show us completely different shades of a champion (like reaper Soraka). I like it and I appreciate your thinking out of the box. I hope to see more skins like this in the future, I hope to see more original, unusual and yet beautiful skins like the reaper themed skin was for Soraka and the sacred sword is for Janna. Good job.

I don't have a link(it might not have been katey cause i just went through 8 months worth of her post and didn't see it). However, I found this.
We have a skin in development right now (to be released later this year) that has the team divided. Some people feel it’s a slam dunk. Some feel it’s not the most obvious fit, but a risk worth taking. Others feel adamant that it’s a bad fit.
I've never seen a worse fitting skin in the game, so i think he was probably talking about this janna skin(the timing also seems to fit).

However that has its limits too.

I really dislike all the recent skins that look nothing like the original champions, janna is a blond haired elf-ish caucasian white girl with skimpy clothes and a distinct staff, you replace her with a black haired asian chick? with a loose kimono of sort, a different haircut / skin tone and a sword for weapon? how is that janna? they look absolutely nothing alike, you might as well release a different champion all together.
it's a shame because the skin is pretty, but I won't buy it because it's not janna.

add that to all the colors shenanigans (hair, skin, clothes, weapons) and the noise (the sword again) and it's really difficult to see janna in it.
the skin is marvelous, but it's super far fetched, 99% of the ppl looking at it without prior knowledge wouldn't recognize janna. hell, I'm a janna main, I had no idea who I was looking at before reading the description.

cocacolalips1 votesthe Pug'maw skin was the most controversial skin ever made, the backlash was huge, here, on reddit, even at Riot HQ between rioters, dozens of discussions with 500-1000+ upvotes and as many comments, eventually riot changed the skin to make it look more like kog'maw, but I doubt they will go down that route for a while.
it's mostly a matter of clarity and immersion, a champion should be instantly recognizable regardless of the skin, and shouldn't stand out/off too much in the LoL universe.

Sorry but I can't see how this is "not janna" just because she has black hair. I mean other skins turn champions into robots or entirely different beings and thats fine,but if a skin changes the hair color(which a lot of skins do) then thats bad? Thats rather ridiculous.

I don't even get what ppl argue and comment about, you either have eyes and it doesn't look like janna or you don't and you don't comment.
this isn't the real world where you can tell ppl apart from the form of their nose or the color of their eyes, it's a video game with a top down view, all the champions have very small models and few details, they are only identifiable at a glance by their colors scheme and their overall silhouette, if you change both, which they did, you have something different entirely and largely unrecognizable.

skarner has a very distinct silhouette btw, regardless of skin. when I look at a skarner skin, I don't think it's irelia, I think it's skarner. that's the difference.

The sword is long enough to be recognizeable as her staff,her hair is still pretty similar to her old one and the clothes have similar sleeves to her current ones.

rtbf2256182411 votesBut...how does that express anything from Janna? It doesn't change her VO which is one of my main appeals for Soraka plus the theme is literally "Reaper" so it made more sense at the time aswell when her Q was much more satisfying with the center extra damage+slow.
Thing is, she doesn't even use the sword in any way at all. She fires her attacks from her feet/legs and has extremely low damage potential compared to other Supports. As i said before, with the previous Q, Soraka was very powerful in the hands of a skilled played.
I even almost got a Penta with her but the Quadra was taken away from me so i just finished off the Ace. >_<
