Ok, so really Riot? I mean, yeah, I like the fact that you upgrade your ultimate, but it takes waaaaay too long to earn serpents. Even if you are farming top all game, it takes way too long, so I don't play him as much as I wish I could. Please upvote this because I really feel like they need to make a change. (edit: I know farming with barrels help, but I find it unreliable. I find that if I am behind, I struggle to get even one upgrade.)
BARRELS.
Every time someone complains about farming with Gangplank, I'm going to yell BARRELS at them, because USE THE GODDAMN BARRELS
Well if you're farming with your barrels properly the first upgrade doesn't take all that long, once the laning phase is over though getting the other two becomes quite the task.
Use your barrels! I discovered that using the barrels gave the gold on Parrley + the SIlver Serpents, got the upgrades in no time ;)
You are not supposed to get all three upgrades in a single game. They are small upgrades to help your scalling slighty, but they are not supposed to be the focus of new GP. 500 SS is fine.
Also use your Barrels.
