An Answer to AD heavy teams (For Mages) [NEW ITEM - Shroud of Shadows/Enveloping Shroud of Shadows]

As the title indicates, this item is meant to be a counter for AD heavy teams, mostly for mages. Tanks and bruisers have plenty of means of disruption and durability already; but in the proverbial "Arms Race" of Tanks and ADCs, Mages have gotten screwed badly in that unless they possess some form of absurd mobility, they die right away. Lets face it, armor is nowhere near as good as used to be. I considered maybe proposing changes on how armor functions, but really its only mages, and to lesser extent AP supports, that need more defensive options vs. AD. When an AD gets even slightly fed, armor becomes worthless, and thanks to item 3153, health also becomes worthless. What Mages and all AP need is another option that isn't reliant on Health or Armor; item 3157 doesn't cut it because armor isn't good enough and it costs so much. My proposal for such an item, is as follows in the form of two items; one an upgrade of another:

Shroud of Shadows

+70 Ability Power UNIQUE Passive - Phantasm: Every 15 seconds gain a shadowy phantom of yourself (max 3.) increasing movement speed by 3% per charge. Upon taking any physical from an enemy champion, absorb up to 100 points of physical damage and consume a charge.

**Built From: ** Blasting Wand (860 Gold) item 1026 Aether Wisp (850 Gold) item 3113 Final Cost: 1810 Gold (860+850+100 gold)

Comments: The passive is the important bit of this item, even if a support tickles you for 60 points of physical damage it will still consume a charge, but this item will act as effective stop gap against lucky crits or abilities with a lot of built in physical damage. Yes, it applies to both basic attacks and abilities that do physical damage. You can actually counterbuild a somewhat fed AD assassin with this item. it is expensive, a little less than Lichbane, but it can be well worth it if you do the math and say you lose a charge on the mark every 15 seconds: in a 40 minute game, it can provide up to 16,000 physical damage reduction.

Enveloping Shroud of Shadows

+120 Ability Power UNIQUE Passive - Phantasm: Every 15 seconds gain a shadowy phantom of yourself (max 3.) increasing movement speed by 3% per charge. Upon taking any physical from an enemy champion, absorb up to 300 points of physical damage and consume a charge.

Can only be bought level 9+.

**Built From: ** Shroud of Shadows (1810 gold) Blasting Wand (860 Gold) item 1026 Final Cost: 2970 Gold (1810+860+300 gold)

Comments: Like it's predecessor, this item's passive is the big part of it; 300 point shield because of late game. By late game ADCs will have some crit, usually, so a 500-600 crit is not unheard even on armor. You'll notice that you have to be level 9 or higher to buy it, levels are important to mages, moreso than most classes so this item is tied to leveling importance for that very reason; this is for mages for the most part. Again, if you do the math and say you lose a charge on the mark every 15 seconds: in a 40 minute game, it can provide up to 48,000 physical damage reduction.

You already have OP answers for AD heavy teams as a mage: item 3191 item 3157

You don't need another OP anti-AD item.

Mages are already extremely strong if. Most mages aren't supposed to 1v1 people, they're supposed to provide the AOE firepower to melt an entire team if they get peel or engage. They also get access to the best item in the game - Zhonya's Hourglass. The only mages with sub-50% win rates are the ones with either a huge skillcap or extremely number nerfed.

You know that magic penetration enhances the damage on item 3075, right? I hear mages typically have a lot of that.

Pair it up with Rod of Ages and you're golden.

A mage will almost never build thornmail, that is a tank item; the goal of a mage is to avoid damage as much as possible not soak it up and send it back...

Thornmail isn't a Tank item. It's a soak item, yeah. But not a Tank item.

Tank items give the enemy team an incentive to attack you (aoe DoT, sources of CC, auras to make your buddies stronger, persistent effects that they want to get rid of).

Thormail punishes auto-attackers for attacking you. Thornmail encourages auto-attackers to ignore you and attack someone else. That's the opposite of a Tank item.

Neither read the post, Zhonya's DOESN'T CUT IT, armor is all but worthless because armor penetration is everywhere. Please don't comment if you haven't read the post...

Armor and HP is a joke, unless you stack them on someone with % dmg reduction like Maokai with prenerf Cinderhulk. Tanks are still squishy now compared to the tanks of the other mobas, they offer some midgame and get rekt lategame by %hp dmg, flat and % armor pen, insane crits and stacking AP - most mages can stack around 700 AP with no problem and kill tanks with 2 rotations in teamfight.
