Champion Mastery

Posted this in the client discussion forum yesterday and It apparently was deleted and I wasn't notified, it's just gone... Interesting.

So the question I have is why do I have to gamble my IP on blue essence to upgrade my champion mastery? It makes no sense, and feels like a lazy brained approach to giving older players with a bazillion IP something to spend it on.
