Matchmaking is broken

I'm at the end of my rope here guys, so I need some advice. My games feel much more like a test of my patience than my skill. More often than not I get multiple teammates who are just terrible players. They go 0-5 or worse in their lane, and then it's impossible to do anything about their lane opponent. I'm going to stop playing for awhile... again... but I've put in more than 600 games of ranked this season and it's actually impossible for me to get out of silver. I've hovered around silver 5 for the longest time, after getting to my gold promos at one point this season.

Ranked in silver has become a real nightmare, and I want to know what Riot plans to do about it. Someone with as much experience as me at this game should not be matched with people in their placements for the first time ever who que up as an important role like jungle. Or have to deal with at least two lanes going 0-5 or worse almost every single game... At this point I could write a book about the terrible players I get tossed up on my shoulders from game to game. I'm not going to tell you I deserve to be in challenger, but I definitely do not deserve to be this hard stuck in silver.

Matchmaking is actually out of hand. There's such an insane disparity in skill levels of my teammates game to game that it makes my head spin. There are too many games that I can know when we're going to lose early in the game because of key things teammates do or do not do. Like not warding at all and shoving their lane constantly, supports that don't buy sightstone at all, junglers who go lane to lane giving kills to the enemy team in impossible to win skirmishes... or something like my support soraka going into melee range against lucian and leona to try and drop a Q on them. Then people act like I am the one who's in the wrong for pointing out that my support is intentionally feeding the enemy. I mention something to the enemy team, and they're all too happy to troll it up saying things like "x person is the best one on your team." meanwhile they're 0-4-0 telling me what a bad person I am for begging them to stop feeding.

I keep around a 4.0 average kda on all the champions I play regularly, I have a positive winrate on most of them... but overall my winrate is 48% out of 600+ games this season. I can tell you that 90% of my losses are a direct result of an afk, rage quitter, feeder, etc... things that are beyond my control make the game impossible to win. As I see it there's nothing I can do anymore to better equip my team for success. Which is why I'm here. I need advice.... because again I am at the end of my rope...

I put an enormous amount of effort into these ranked games, and more often than not I feel like I have one or more teammates who are actively trying to make the game harder to win. The stress and frustration that I get from this game has long since passed the point of being worth it to play ranked anymore... Last season I shot right up to gold 5 with around an 80% winrate on my main champion, and stopped playing ranked because of how stressful it became. This season as I've said, I cannot get out of silver, and it's a really terrible feeling.

I'm not asking for the better team every game, I just want an even game, where both teams actually have a shot at winning the game. Far too often games feel so terrible I can barely stomach playing through it.

From Bronze to Gold pretty much seems like complete RNG as to whether you win or lose.

I think we should learn to stop referring to our teammates as terrible because it diverges from the point and doesn't really further the discussion. Instead we should focus on the problematics with sloppy matchmaking allowing for wildly unballanced teams.

Also, they only seem terrible because their opponents simply are better, but if you'd match them against players that are inferior they might come off as considerably more skilled and better. So yet again, doesn't really serve a point.

As for the variance of matchmaking, which just seems to get wilder and wilder.

Some claim that it will spread evenly to everyone, I don't agree because I've seen more than one player consistently perform bad, some evern trolling at times yet get carried far beyond where they should be even without premades while others perform well and put effort into improving, doing so objectively without ever seeming to be able to catch that break they need to climb.

I thoroughly believe some unlucky people are permanently on the recieving end for whatever reason, call it bad luck if you want, that would never be allowed in any other respectable sport and it really isn't suitable for a an e-sport trying to make a name for itself.

Also Riot uses last seasons stats as a measurement in their matchmaking and last year was crap with too many boosted monkeys in dynamic queue and that transfers over to this season. But I do notice sizable mmr difference in ranked this year at least according to op.gg. Many games I've played the mmr could be off as much as 150 average. That's huge. Games just haven't been as fun this year. It's a stomp either way many times win or lose. Riot if you're listening please take a look at it because the fun is dying and when we aren't having fun we move on.

Honestly, a lot of people's role in this game is to add weight and make it harder for you to win. If you are good and get at least responsible teammates then you would win too easily. They need the bad to even your chances. Even tho everyone knows in all ranks that bad players have an infinitely larger effect on a game than the good.

I am convinced matchmaking doesn't actually exist, with surprising frequency end up with teams with ranks ranging all the way from diamond to bronze. those games games are fun to pretend to be surprised with the bronzies be rolfstomped.

Same on the difficulties, I'm also at the point where my silver games are a stomp. Very rarely are they ever a fully even matchup unless theres a lot of throwing and its 50 minutes in. In the last 3 weeks I've hit a really hard series of bad games, probably losing like 6/8 games and my lp gain has gone from 24/25 to 18/19. I was almost silver 1 for a second and now I'm close to being demoted to silver 5. There of course a few games I suck or feed in because I'm no perfect player, but overall I usually do fairly well and make a solid K/D/A. But most games I've just been getting terrible players, 9/10 times theres a 0/3 top, 1/5 mid raging at jg, jg is 2-0, im 2-0, but then the enemy team jg and mid dive and one shot me and my support take turret, drag, and then group and push mid. Theres no consistency to anything other than the fact that almost every game I play, its at least 85%/15%, 85% that 2/3 lanes lose. Im a ad and jg main, and most of us already know adc's are pretty useless this season. Like literally, I can be a 2-0 jinx with Edge, Runaans, greaves, dorans blade, flash, and heal, and still get instantly one shot by a riven thats 0-4 with black clever and tier 1 boots. I don't expand too far out of my realm unless I'm really desperate, usually I maintain about a 10-15 champion pool. About 5-6 of which I can play fairly decently, and 3 of those of which I can play pretty well as mains. Although ad's last season were still kind of useless they weren't too bad, I was able to carry a good few games with a lot of try hard skill towards the end of the season and make gold 4. I did my placements this year and got silver 2, not bad considering I think I only won 4/6 If i remember correctly. For the first few Weeks I maintained around silver 2-1 area and Just kept going back and fourth on wins. occasionally getting a few in a row and trying the silver 1 series but then losing it. Recently though the past few weeks have been horrible. A very bad poor quality decline.

Almost every game at least two people are doing one or more or all of the following, A: Feeding, B: Feeding because of a lack of skill and getting outplayed in lane or ganked. C: Dying to ganks because of a lack of warding. D: Very poor quality farming and low cs count. E: Raging at other players on the team and blaming them for their faults. F: Afking on purpose or spamming /ff GG in /all chat and helping the enemy team win overall or come back.

Most people just get toxic towards me and call me trash or say that I'm crying and its my fault, or some bull crap like "just carry" or "get good and carry" but. Comming from the fact that Adc's really don't carry anything this season because, I can be 15-0 and still get one shot by a syndra ult in 0.3 seconds. There isn't too much to carry, nor is it even likely. When I jg i can carry sometimes but that only solely depends on whether or not ganks work and I get ahead. But still thats not enough. One game i played with udyr I was constantly ganking top and we shat on him hard. My top laner was like 2/1/3 with great cs and I was 3-0, but mid was a stalemate and neither did much, and our bot lane was int feeding they were like 0/10 and lost both turrets. I kept asking in chat, please just place wards and farm, if u see the enemy jg back up a bit. All I received was toxic rage and hate towards me. Afterwards I received an instant feedback notification after reporting the ad. But I found out that He was silver 5 0 LP and had a 23% winrate on the champ he was "maining".

I asked myself. If i finished gold last season and he finished bronze 1. Why am I even in the same game with him. If he was simply replaced with a decent silver 1/2 or gold equivalent adc we might have stood a fairly decent chance at winning the game. His elo was vastly different then mine and VERY far apart. And this was not flex queue this was soloQ.

I did carry, but carrying has its limits, when someone is put in my games, that has Far lower skill capability than the enemy, far lower skill to cooperate with me and my other teammates and is far lower in rank than me. It's drastically hard to carry that individual to a win.

Add in the variance of getting autofilled support or top, or the random occasional time where my internet hits off for 30 minutes in the middle of a game, Or I dodge once in a while, It overall, becomes extremely difficult to climb.

I'm not even asking for it to be easy, I don't mind having a rough time at it, If i win 3 games, lose 2, win 1, lose 2, win 4, lose 1, win 2, lose 3, win 5. And slowly but surely I am going up, then I'm all for it.

But for it to just be Lose 3, win 1, Lose 4, win 2, Lose 5 win 1. and so on, it just ends up being pointless and heavily demotivating. I'm pretty Sure I had decent MMR, I mean I finished gold 4 last season, got placed silver 2, and started off with gaining 24/25/26 LP on wins and losing like 13-14 on losses. There is not and never was a reason I should have silver players in my games that finished bronze in the previous season, nor should there be anyone that just completed promo ranked games for the first time.

There is definitely some work to be done here for the matchmaking system. I'm fairly confident there are better players I deserve to be placed with for a proper steady elo climb.

I'm on a massive loss streak right now on my other account and it's in silver. Same as you, there is an incredible amount of people who rage and afk and for some reason I am not getting lucky with which team I am on, hopefully the streak changes so that I can start playing with normal people again.

I would like to add that in my past 6 games i have won lane every single time but then lost the game due to other lanes feeding and i dont know how i can win lane so many times but then riot gives me a plat 4 guy who was gold last season that goes ezreal mid (this is low diamond elo btw) and expect me to win, i mean do they not see that i lost 6 games in a row due to my teammates. matchmaking is so unfair because in the end you can be the better at the game person and still lose the game.

I am going to offer you some Epic advice. I'm not speaking down to you at any moment throughout this advice. I'm just trying to Help. I do not believe I am good at this game AT ALL. But in 3 out of 7 seasons I've played this game, I've been Gold every time in Solo, Season 1, Season 2, Season 3, and this season 7, so far I'm almost in my Gold Promo's again. So I'm either good (which I'm not), or smart (which I am a little).

But more importantly Why should you read the following? Because I use to be a toxic 14-18 year old kid gaming online 24/7. I was toxic at times. I was hard on team mates. Hard. But I was filthy good or wicked smart at video games. And I ended up playing and versus the best on the games I liked all around this country, 50-60 live events, paid to play and compete, sometimes carried by famous Pro's both current and retired. Other times supporting or leading former and current famous Pros at events, helping them to make the money or place Pro on multiple games throughout the years. I'm not a 1 trick pony. I've been there, I've done that. I'm still here, just gaming on a recreational level, but I always play to win. I don't ever play for fun, that happens naturally. Sad, but true. I'm now best suited to help younger players or mature stubborn players understand this online grind that I once made it out of.

I've done nothing different then all the above you stated on League of Legends. The game was unlike any other game I've ever played before when I first played it. I'm terrible at this game. Terrible. Always have been. Always will be. And I couldn't agree more with a lot of what you said. My win rates have never been and aren't anything special on this account or any of my past accounts. But I've always made it to Gold. Once in a while, rarely, my Teemo Top, my Ashe Bot, my Varus Bot, my Yi Jungle would carry, but Rarely. I relied on others. I trusted others. After all, this isn't a 1v1 solo street fighter game, this is a 5v5 Team based strategy game.

There are some SERIOUS, serious match making issues and Balancing issues that Riot clearly ignores, pushes under the floor mat, or fails to fix (but at least they try to) and some issues they refuse to even acknowledge no matter what. That's their problem, there's nothing You can really do unless you have connections to the right people or a podium to point it out when and where their ready to listen.

But, its a great, super fun, HUGELY popular, diverse, competitive and again, extremely fun game. So we Grind on!

Step 1, my main Advice, CONTROL YOUR ONLINE EMOTIONS. STOP TiLTING! You need to CONTROL YOUR EMOTIONS. Think about you as a person and as a gamer. Regardless of your age. Regardless of Your past or present life experience or how your day is going. Regardless of who is feeding. Regardless of who didn't upgrade their trinket. Do what You can do to help win that game. Play your best. Try to Carry. Make a suggestion or two respectfully, but then mute or re-focus back onto yourself if the suggestions are ignored or toxic replies. Don't tilt or play with those who do tilt.

I don't want to hear you say you do control your emotions, because clearly your emotions are controlling you strongly enough that you logged in, and created this thread about everything that nearly every player except Pro's (and in some cases even Pro's who don't Duo Q run into). You said your at your end of your rope. If you were in control of your emotions during a tough game, or while you watch people play bad, and You let it affect You, your going to keep losing, and keep losing control of the games and stay in Bronze/Silver and in rare cases Gold.

If you control your emotions, I guarantee you'll win at least 1 more game per day LATE INTO THE GAME AND MAKE 1 COMEBACK PER DAY simply based on not tilting yourself, and not tilting others.

In Life, and on League, you must Control your Emotions to be at your strongest.

After that, Step 2 Trust your Team. This isn't 2v2 or 1v1, its a 5v5 Team based game. Try to use voice comms for easier faster communication, and pings. Mute those who need to be muted. Ignore toxicity and Block and Report those who need to be blocked and reported. Just focus on yourself and being the best player you can be, improving the best you can.

Riot has perma banned I don't know how many accounts of my friends and even a couple of mine. Why? Because I Told Feeders and AFK's and Toxic players Facts, and people can't handle the truth. But Riot doesn't care who instigated the game going south, who tilted who first, and in the end, two wrongs rarely make a right, and League isn't one of those rarities. Riot is all about that money honey. They will Perma ban, so that you can buy again. Community comes after the bills are paid and the money is made. Then it's our turn, the players. But that's cool, thats Life. BUT CONTROL THOSE EMOTIONS.

Complaining on the forums will do nothing. Being angry or toxic, or even maturely informative will often do nothing but get you reported by the very feeders, AFKers, and terrible players that don't belong in ranked, but somehow are there, and the jokers that your upset about.

Just focus on You. When you lose a game. Move on to the next game. If you lose them all, tomorrow is another day. Try Carrying. Even if you can't, try, its a competitive game.

If your good or great at this game, and truly understand it, which I believe you do after reading your post, then you need to better understand yourself, your emotions, control those emotions, and realize that like the game of Life, Ranked Solo Q in League of Legends is FAR FAR from Perfect or Fair.

Don't tilt. Don't play with players who Tilt. And Focus on you. Gold will come, and you will keep climbing way past Gold if you are slick on the sticks and quick on the keys.

I wish you luck DB Gaming.

My question is how this post gets a positive like/dislike ratio and every post I've done on this same topic gets wrecked with dislikes/deleted... on another account I had 5 straight games today where I had an S or S+, won the crap outta my lane. Even attempted to shot call in the last 3 only to watch my team blatantly ignore everything I had to say to do things like chase a shaco through the jungle instead of push a lane, or dive the enemy turret at level two. I mean I understand mistakes, but if rank is supposed to be an indicator of your skill level. Why am I so baffled at the lack of game knowledge my teammates have in gold? Why do I have to remind my rammus to look at his map before charging headfirst into a disadvantaged 3v5? Why do I have to remind my katarina to not 1v1 the enemy akali, because her champ is more built for aoe damage over single target. I mean... these are things I learned when climbing out of bronze. I'm not perfect, and in no way am trying to blame everyone else for my mistakes. I have a lot of departments of my play where I can improve. But it's pretty clear from game to game that I am levels above the people I am matched with. Maybe its just a streak of bad luck idk. But it's getting a little out of hand.

I feel it got seriously broken this season. Bronzes matches with platinum players silvers against diamonds... I really don't understand how can I get a silver or bronze rank player in my team when I face a diamond or gold . Or why the hell I need to play against such players when my actual rank is silver or gold... It is unfair and kills this game. I am really thinking of quitting this game coz of this... The matches are not well balanced... Sometimes it is so easy to win other times so hard coz you go against ppl way more experienced and with higher ranks... I don't feel the progression, the ranks and the MMR is not working towards a better match. I would rather wait 5min than being matched against diamonds or platinum players when we are a team of silvers... RIOT needs to fix this asap... I won't play more games until they show they are doing something to solve their matchmaking algorithms...[sg-zephyr]

I've been playing for 5 years, my group and I usually only play a couple games a day, we are very casual. We are rated at mid-bronze, though if we go up against low silvers we usually win. Thing is, we are CONSTANTLY up against platinum, gold, and high silvers. We go up against unranked but they admit they are gold or platinum. We're currently on about a 20 game losing streak... its just not fun. If we play with a team of 4 (common) our 5th is usually a complete feeder, and they have an amazing team. Whats going on with matchmaking?!? I'm a bit done with League.

When you are allowed to play with more than 1 account ...this balance will be a myth....STOP MULTI Acc and you will STOP WITH SMURFFING& TROLL& AFK cuz if you can only use 1 accont ...you will be a good boy in normals or ranks... But if ppl can have 10 accounts ... (SMURFING+TROLLING+AFK)*9 , main is the backUP lol WAKE UP

Just wanted to add to this, I’m silver 3 with around low gold high silver mmr and matchmaking just gave me a bronze 2 midlaner with a 27% win rate. I don’t understand why people don’t think it’s rigged :/
