An idea for Syndra's passive that could potentially help her

So, ricklessabandon shared on his Twitter an upcoming Syndra change that reverts the MYMU change to her Q passive. Instead of lasting 2 more seconds, it will deal 15% bonus damage to champions again.

I think it is a good direction, but it doesn't change the fact that Syndra doesn't have a passive for 9 levels. So here's an idea: what about making her passive bonus scale with the ability rank? It could work like this:

  • Q - Dark sphere: deals 3% bonus damage to champions for each rank, for a total of 15% bonus magic damage at rank 5;
  • W - Force of Will: deals 4% bonus true damage for each rank, for a total of 20% bonus true damage at rank 5;
  • E - Scatter the Weak: each rank makes scatter the weak's area of effect 10% wider, 50% wider at rank 5;
  • R - Unleashed Power: R's cast range is increased by 25 for each rank, for a total of 75 bonus range at rank 3.

Numbers may be a bit high and she could become a lane bully again (oh please yes), but it would help her during early game and could potentially change the way she's played. Right now you 100% of the time max Q, but she could start putting points into Q/W/E based on what she needs = more flexibility.

It would even fit her thematically, since she gathers power through her abilities' rank and not once those abilities are at maximum rank.

i feel like This new passive gonna hurt her ult dmg

Well I guess it's what they want tbh, the reason Syndra has been left in the gutter is because her R is "frustrating" to deal with. This change will increase her skill cap and make her ult less frustrating for sure, because let's be honest, her new Q makes her R retard proof.

Q is maxed first because of her ult. i Do agree however that her second ability choice might be staggered

But since Q is getting its old passive back (damage and not spheres duration), the proposed passive could finally let her choose a new spells rank's order.

Sorry I dont know why but I thought the CD was lower the higher level it was >.<

A passive like that wouldn't be a real passive because these boni might as well just be added to the abilities.

I believe they said they have the passive like this to make Syndra feel more powerful once she has "mastered" one ability. They tried to achieve this in a few ways that all backfired (like the W that could pick up 3 spheres).

Imo it's hard to find a middle ground to make the max level impactful without making the ability either OP once maxed, or useless until it is maxed.

The thing is that her Q feels really bad at rank 1 and two, they gutted its base damage a long time ago and its ratio by 10% during S7.

I don't think that having a scaling passive would make her OP in lane, but they could adjust numbers so her passive doesn't feel useless (actually IT IS) before level 9.

As a former Syndra otp I still remember that base damage nerf item 3070.

But tbh it was needed because her Q was too strong on the early levels back then. You could easily bully out your enemy early. But that isn't what Syndra is supposed to be. She should be powerful, but first when she got some levels, with her Ult lvl ups being her power spikes.

I don't see any problems with a champion passive being useless until a certain point. I like her passive that gives her something once she has mastered an ability, and it fits her pretty good tbh. Makes her feel "complete" once she has mastered an ability, but it doesn't completely feel like that in game atm, and I think that is the problem.

If you ask me, I would make her Q bonus damage function like a smaller item 3285. So instead of just making her Q deal extra damage, make her Q send some dark lightnings out that hit the closest enemies in a (very) small radius around the sphere that deal the bonus damage instead. Make some sick dark visuals and add some cool sound to it... There we go, that would be a Q passive that would basically function like her current Q damage bonus, but feel way more impactful even if it isn't in reality.

Then repeat that principle for the other spells and you would have a cool and unique passive that fits the champion.
