Diana Ability Rework Idea @IronStylus

Hey all,

A while back IronStylus (haven't seen him on the boards in a while) was asking the community how they would change Diana's kit. She is my go to assassin and favorite character overall so I thought about it for a while. I think I have come up with a kit rework that would make Diana have a more unique and less mundane paystyle. Let me know what you guys think (obviously I can't come up with balanced number without play testing, but they should give you a feel for what I'm going for)!

tldr: dps assassin that finds relative safety/power in an aoe zone

Abilities: Moonsilver Blade (passive): Diana’s auto attacks apply magic damage (base AD + 0.1 AP) instead of physical damage. Damage applies to towers.

Diana receives a brief buff incrementally base on the moon’s phase. A visual indicator by Diana’s health bar displays the moon phase progression. 60/45/30 seconds between phases. Diana can advance the moon phase slightly by applying moon light to enemy champions. Upon a full moon, Diana will receive 150% increased attack speed for the next 3 auto attacks (3 second time frame). Upon a new moon Diana will be stealthed for 1 second, broken if she attacks.

Crescent Strike (Q): (new effect) Upon hitting an enemy champion marked with moon light, Crescent Strike cooldown is refreshed and the next projectile will arc to the left (instead of right) for a brief timeframe (for coolness). The mark will be refreshed; however, the second projectile cannot refresh the cooldown.

Pale Cascade (W): (new effect) A small amount of damage dealt by moonlit champions will be returned while the shield is active. The damage returned will increase if Diana’s tier 2 shield is active.

Moon Fall (E): Diana fires a thin, instantaneous (think Yasuo Q but slightly longer) skill shot which applies a moderate slow to all enemies hit. The first moonlit champion will be pulled back to Diana and slowed. The mark will be consumed.

_Lunar Rush (R): _ After a 1 second channel Diana will become briefly (.25 seconds) untargetable as she travels a moderate distance (think Leona R) to the center of a target location. Upon impact, the area (think Leona R size) will become visually moonlit. She flies down a moon beam like a boss! Only allies can see the destination during her channel.

Any enemy champions in the area upon impact will be marked with moon light and slowed by 60% decaying down to 10% during 2 seconds. Any enemy champions entering the area after impact will stunned for 1 second and then slowed by 10%. Attacks from enemy champions outside of the area deal 20% reduced damage to Diana. While in the area, Diana’s gains (40% per enemy champion in the area) attack speed. The area will last for 5 seconds, expiring early if she dies. 1 second after impact, Diana may recast to consume the area and put into stasis (like hourglass but DoT still applies) for (2 + 0.5 * remaining area duration) seconds. Moderately-long cooldown (think Zed R).

Combos: Lane: Q > W + E > AA Team-fight: R > passive + W + Q > Q > AA (E if enemy leaves area for a stun) (reactivate R if in trouble)

Intended Effect of Rework:

  • Meant to be more of a DPS assassin (between Zed and Yi)
  • Her bust is moderate (ult no longer does damage)
  • Kit is less mundane (magic damage autos, moonlight effects for all of her basic abilities, interesting ult)
  • Retains the “go in but can’t go out” playstyle without relying on pure defensive stats to survive (due to the invulnerability from the ult recast)
  • Unique style of creating a dangerous kill zone in the enemy back line
  • It is dangerous go inside of her ult to help a carry, but less damage is dealt outside
  • Plenty of conterplay (predict ult location and evade, doge her Q and E outside when outside of the ult, CC to prevent her sustained damage, play around passive)

What do you guys think?

Don't botch my main bro. Jk cool idea but I like her how she is

I know feeling :) I like as she is too. I tried to retain a similar feel while also addressing her need to buy defense if she want to survive past one kill in extended fights while making her E and R a bit more interesting. But I get it you don't feel she needs a change at all. She still a ton of fun!

I've gotten multiple quadra kills her her if you want to get multiple kills you deffinitly need cdr and nashir tooth

I'm curious, do you usually get any more cdr than what you get from nashor's? While mana regen is nice, I feel like it's often wasted on her (i'm thinking of morello and grail for their cdr).

Mana regen on Diana is a complete waste. She doesn't need it. I get a Doran ring to start and then rush rod of ages depending on who I'm laning against. Once you get rod your set for the game. If I want to get nashir tooth first I'll get a second Doran ring before hand. Lichbane now has 10% on it so that is also a must get item for Diana. To get to 40% will of the ancients.

Interesting, I like it. I've always considered hourglass a near must-buy item and perhaps an abyssal against ap (one of these are usually my 1st items). Do you ever consider these a good buy, or is it kinda wasting gold that could be spent on her more core stats?

I think of Diana as a straight up brawler so I ignore hourglass. I build abysal based on if they have magic resist or not or are ap. I use dianas auto attacks all the time. Most people who play her generally ignore her passive but that 3rd hit from it is a lichbane proc basically. I usually don't build rabadons as well. Call me crazy but if you actually use your auto attacks it makes up for it. With nashir tooth your autos do enough damage to make up for it. Most people think you are crazy because they think she is a mage caster. She is not. Surprise them and play her the same way you would renekton and blow them up with tankyness and her passive.

Coolio, thanks for the pointers! I'll definitely have to try that out sometime.

Also Are you using death fire grasp or thunder lords

I actually haven't played her in quite some time (not at all in season 6). She's my go to assassin in ranked which means I don't play her much in less serious normal games (all I've been doing in the past 2 months). I'm guessing thunderlord's, deathfire, stormraider, and even fervor could work well Diana. With the squishier burst build I have used in the past I would go thunderlords, but I'm guessing deathfire or stormraider be best with your brawler/autos build.

Nah thunder lords is the best in my opinion.

I main Diana as well, and I will agree thunder lords is best way to go. Kill them all in one burst!

Leave her the way she is, cause she is awesome. At first I hated her but now that I have gotten better at the game she is freaking awesome. I haven't loved a champion quite as much as I love Diana now that I have taken the time out to really master what she is all about.

Sounds like a freakin awesome idea for like a counter moon character though, perhaps the is another moon we cannot see in the sky that another character could be assigned to. A whole new character could be made off what you have written I think.

Champ reworks are cool but most of the time I believe that they could have been made into whole new champs and left the one that was there alone.

Cheers

I really like the idea of the moon phases, and I like how you capitalized on the moonlight aspect of Diana. The only thing I think you could work on is the e, which seems a little bland. On the contrary, the idea of Diana being stealth during the New Moon is a totally cool and creative idea, but I feel like it’s a bit too random with the phases. If you could have a guaranteed phase of the moon somehow that would be really cool/

I once had a similar idea for an ADC where the basic attacks change based on the moon phase and each ability changes the moon phase. Was fluffing them as a follower of Diana.

One ability could copy beam attacks at lesser damage. Was a favorite.

Raven Redeemed2 votes

Thanks! To be fair, I pulled the basic moon phase idea from someone else's idea who reply to IronStylus' Dians tread. I agree the phases seem a bit odd given you can't really control them, but I didn't want too much power in the passive or overcomplicate her controls.

Masala Chai1 votes

This overcomplicates Diana, we have so many complicated champions in League thanks to these reworks. AKA passive interacts with Q which has a bonus effect with E, and W has some utility while the R interacts with the x cast of the Q. Yasuo anyone? Diana already is somewhat complicated due to her damage dealing shield and how her Q interacts with the R and how the combos are supposed to be executed. This game has went from Ashe to Draven to Illaoi and Kindred with all of these weird, weird mechanics.

Raven Redeemed2 votes

That fair. I can understand wanting to keep a kit simple. I personally love all these unique abilities coming in the game, it really makes thing interesting and let's new champs bring new things to the table. I guess that's personal preference.

With this kit rework I was looking to A) keep Diana's dive-with-no-escape play style but change it so that she could survive fights without the aid of defense stats and B) keep her dps assassin style. I love Diana as she is (favorite assassin) but I feel she has a few shortcomings.

i honestly hate ur idea.

And that’s your right.

How did you come across my four year old post? Lol.
