Uneducated Silver Player, Here, Requesting Details On An Item

Okay, I seriously need some answers and details and all that good stuff regarding a certain item within League of Legends. The item in question is:

item 3123 [Executioner's Calling] And while we're at it, let's just include it's final form, item 3033 [Mortal Reminder] for clarity and stuff.

Anyway, I often have games where the enemy team has, like say, a Vladimir or a Swain or a Trundle or hell, maybe even an Aatrox. And while playing some of these games, if any of the aforementioned champs got like REALLY far ahead, like I'm talking snowballing out of control, I'd get that one teammate who says something along the lines of "they're too fed. we can't even kill them because they'll just heal back up during the fight." Also note that this is usually an AD champion on my team who is saying this.

Now personally, I would just finish my first item or two and then build the item 3123 and then finish off the item 3033 once I got some other Armor Pen item, so that I could take advantage of the bonus Armor Pen from Mortal Reminder's passive. After building the item, I feel much safer fighting said champ. Building this item, however, doesn't ensure my victory against said champ. It just seems to lessen the amount of stress I'd have to endure fighting a Champion who is constantly healing during a fight/skirmish.

All that aside, my teammates never seem to buy it. Like, literally no one I've ever been in a game with, for the past month or so even considers building it. When I try recommending it to the teammate from the earlier example, I get one of two responses:

Either (A) They buy it with no questions asked. Which only happens like once every blue moon. Or (B) They choose not to buy it, flame me for even speaking of the item, or both. Either way, with this option chosen, that teammate continues to complain everytime they get killed by whatever one of those champions they are fighting.

Is there something I'm not seeing here about Mortal Reminder? Is it not doing what it was intended to do, halt/stall healing? Is it just not as strong as it should be?

I will admit that I have no idea how to do the whole "damage calculator" math thing like most other Summoners, here, so I would like for someone to help me out here. Even if you have to bring up another item for comparison purposes. I just need answers! Please and Thank You!

Executioner's Calling is the most efficient buy possible against them. It doesn't mean an auto win against heavy healers, but the difference is drastic. What most people fail to do is consider the healing reduction as damage (because technically, it's not). Consider this, if Swain is healing 100 and you hit hit him, the item does reduces his healing to 55 (45% reduction isn't it?). The difference is equivalent to dealing an additional 45 damage. Unfortunately, healing reduction is a less noticeable thing than damage dealing so people aren't aware of how mathematically powerful it is because it doesn't look or feel like it's as powerful.

Having said that, I'd avoid completing the item and buying % armour pen until they have a reasonable amount of armour items. It only works on bonus armour so it isn't as gold efficient as other items until later on.

TL:DR Keep buying Executions. Don't need to rush % armour pen as quickly.

I've looked around for times to use armor penetration... but it seems more often that people go aggressive or health only, without using armor. And unless the team has a lot of armor it's useless except against one or two people. The extra AD/AP or something will help more overall, unless that one person with heavy armor is causing THAT much of a problem.

I more often see people building Armor/Mag Res more than HP. Yes they do buy HP but I don't really see people build it without building Armor/Mag Res to go with it. But, I do see your point.

this item is mainly bought by adc and rarely by any other ad based champion. Mage on the other hand often get morelio due to the 20% cdr almost never for the grievious wound. And since reminder doesn't bring cdr it get skipped for other arpen ad item.

As an adc I usually go for item 3036 because you usually have less health than anyone anyways, giving you the extra armor pen.

Cause players do not like deviating from their cookie cutter builds. ADCs should be looking into the item around 3rd item. But the power curve of an ADC is way different than a top lane match up.

You should drop the 800 for item 3123 (if AD) really early. If you wait to long against Vladimir and Aatrox you are going to be in a world of pain, cause they never have to back due to resources. 3rd item will probably mean that they are way far ahead of you (if they played right).

Against Swain you can get it a little later cause his life steal is directly tied to his ult and that is on 20 sec CDR and pretty mana intensive. I would still grab sooner than later though.

For 800 gold the item is actually extreamly efficient against healers and regen champs.

I feel like this is the main reason.

It can mean a few things:

  1. The player is currently having lots of component items and needs to finish that item as soon as possible, so no room to build anything else.
  2. He doesn't have his core items to even do damage.
  3. People overlook the importance of Grievous Wounds or even just armor pen in general.
  4. That player is not smart and only goes cookie cutter builds.

Usually the 3rd or 4th.

And in general you shouldn't rush armor pen unless that item also gives you enough AD to dish out lots of damage, because you're most likely not gonna do much damage without at least ONE damage item.

It's probably this. The 'damage' offered by GW in the form of healing reduction is invisible from a visual and visceral perspective.

Makes sense.
