A plead from a support

So I rarely get on the forums these days so please bare with me. I know a lot of you have seen a growing discontent with riot over the need to rebalance adcs in regard to the powerhouse of tanks with damage, mages with damage, etc, but I'd like to face an ever more pressing crisis which the the role of support. I love the role of support and these days I have no competition getting it thanks to the high demand that is ranked 5v5. We are a dying breed of players. We love the challenges that come from making clutch plays with our shields saving adc and carry mages alike from ignites, our hard cc, heals, damage soaking health. Last season was when I became aware while talking to others and close friends of the crumbling position that is support. We are considered by many in the game as a attachable AI on the adc that is treated with disrespect for every engage that goes bad, every successful enemy gank (ganks rarely happens these days), and failure to ward. The biggest complaint I've heard from my fellow supports is the warding one. Especially with adcs. For some reason adcs do a decent job warding in lane and then when they get done with laning they forget all about that yellow trinket or blue trinket. It pevs me to no end that you as a support are require to keep wards everywhere (we only get three just like everyone else!) yet we're suppose to keep wards on everything and everywhere. The second most pressing issue is the lack of jungler focus on bot lane. Would math and common sense back up the notion that getting the highest sustain damage dealer on the team fed be a good thing? Not only that, but you gain control of the dragon easier and by that definition get more dragons leading to a much higher win chance? If I could get nothing else I would plead with you too take these things back to your game fellow community members.

  • Junglers come bot and get your carry fed and help take dragons easier
  • Warding is a team effort and not a just a suggestion for any role.

Please don't let us supports die out. We don't ask for much and we have more than enough love to give back to help you carry the game and give you that awesome KDA you've been striving for. All we ask is that you pat our backs with a little warding help and we'll be happy to lay our met metaphorically lives on the line to keep you junglers, mages, tanks, and most importantly adcs alive to deal out damage.

Appreciate any and all messages both here and in game. Thanks and good luck on your next game!

To me a more pressing concern regarding the role of support in solo queue is that it has become AP laner with a sight stone (if you're lucky). While the occasional Thresh, Blitzcrank, and Alistar still make appearances, far more common are Zyra, Brand, Karma, even Ahri support pushing with the team to the enemy base sporting deathcaps rather than any support items. It's not that uncommon to look at the game report and have the support be the second or third highest damage source on the team.

I'm waiting to see how recent changes play out, but I had the opposite experience. Because jungles were so strong and because ADC's are relatively weak at the moment, nearly every game was decided by which team had the best jungler and wrecked bottom lane. Either their bot was 0/6 by 15 minutes or ours was, and in the larger scheme of things it didn't matter a great deal what I was doing in top lane.

Warding is a team responsibility.
