Proposed added vote function after game.

Happy New Year everyone! To all those still celebrating the holidays and still taking the time to read this thank you. Now down to the nitty gritty.

I would like to propose a new rate function for fellow teammates after each game. In particular ranked play as that is the most apparent place that it is needed. A nice 1 to 5 scale where you can ranked fellow players on skill level and level of play. 1 being the worst player short of reportable. (scale becomes disabled if you choose to report them) as well as if you choose to honor them and 5 being a truly amazing player . My hopes is that this allows fellow peers to provide much needed input into ranking others that takes it more out of Riots hands and into hands that care about the game they love. Now how would this work you may ask? Below I have provided a few different scenarios.

  1. Players that earn a consistently low score after X number of games (Riot I leave this in the capable hands on your balancing staff) are required to play a downturn game to stay at the same Lp as they are now. Losing the game cost the player X amount of Lp (again your balancing staff Riot). Players earning a consistent high score after X number of games get the chance for an advancement game in which they have the chance to earn extra Lp without risk of losing their Lp from a loss should they lose said match.
  • Riot, I know your not overly fond of messing with your precious ranking system but you can save yourself and your very large number of players a lot of headache and grief if you give them a little more control. Trust them they know what they are doing and are more active than your employees could ever hope to accomplish when it comes to weeding out unskilled players and spotting talent.
  1. The scale works 5 being terribly unskilled and 1 being amazing only consistent high votes in either direction affect your mmr in tiny nudges so you have to work extra hard to climb up (let the hating being lol) or get an easier climb than others in your tier (yay).

Okay so some known problems....

Could be abused system so would like there to eventually be a balance and check system. Such as players who only rate all players negatively. Possible solution being their votes continue to weigh less and less till their votes fall to a flat rate 1/10th of an average player. Same could be said for players who consistently vote all players positively. Remember trying to make this as fair as possible. One last abuse is consistently rating same player (friends list or player you queue with constantly) positive in hopes of boosting them. Something similar to the check riot has on honoring same player over and over could be used to prevent this.

Okay so your turn to think to try and improve this. Thoughts? Questions? Leave them below and upvote if you like. If you have a better plan leave a link so I can read it. Thanks!

  1. No matter the scaling of the rates the system will be open to abuse, the majority of players won't care (I refer you to the honoring system), or Riot will fuck up the numbers and have to constantly adjust and readjust the numbers.

  2. If it doesn't affect the pro level play, riot doesn't care.

  3. I can already see big headed, terrible players yelling "OP" and "BROKEN" and trolls trolling "U MAD? WHY SO MAD BRO?"

Why rely on the honor system when there's no consequences for being dishonorable. Players should never rate other players because the perspectives are all relative. Applying a system like this is like the court system overlooking "double jeopardy".

There is no good way to rate players. The most unbiased way is through the numbers, there are too many numbers that are needed to bring into full account how well a player actually plays. For example, Kills to Deaths to Assists ratio, damage dealt to champs, damage taken, and amount healed. With all the numbers you can bring to the equation, they aren't even close to telling you how well a player has done. I.e. it a bad engage and the player died but a fed team member made it just in time to grab a pentakill because they're fed. Adding a player perspective to the rating system although good, is also very dangerous and too sporadic.

Not to mention that Riot is still a business. Very simply, time = money. The more time Riot spends on things like this the less time they have to deal with real problems or creating new content (streams of revenue).

Most of my response was tearing down your idea, but I do believe it is a good one and that you're on the right track. Unfortunately, Riot and the community are not on the same page, and Riot has to look out for itself first.
