If your mage support helped win the match for you regardless of what items he or she used to win, then are you happy you won the match?

Does winning matter more or does what other players do matter more?

I would say yes, they did their job, but there comes a point when they stop being helpful. I used to play a lot of Zyra support and would deal a ton of damage and win 1v1s with ADCs, and then my elo went up. I couldn't win just by securing damage, so I had to learn champs who were capable of supporting and being useful if they're behind rather than just dealing a lot of damage.

TL;DR It doesn't matter too much, because utility is going to be more useful in higher elos anyway.

Only in higher elos is the keywords there.

I can also tell you this. The only, and I mean only reason I play mage support bot is because normal supports have a harder time when bot turns into 2v5 because of that gold you get for first tower. It's one thing for supports to deal with a jungle gank. It's a completely different story when it comes to the whole enemy team going to one lane at low levels just to get that first tower gold or just crap on players.
