How serious do you guys take death threats in this game?

Ash Lockheart··9 votes·3,122 views

Hello riot. I just want to know how serious do you take death threats in your game? I ask this question because I have seen a lot of players threatening others, and saying stuff such as you should kill your self and other things. I mean in my view those kind of things should be permma bans, but I am not sure how far you let players take those things. The reason I say they should be permma banned is simple. What if a player takes what others say to heart, and we wake up to some bad things on the news. So Riot. Were do you stand on this kind of stuff? I mean I am pretty sure others beside my self want to feel safe playing your game. Hopefully a red responds to this question.

15 mins, and no comment from a red. That is kind of scary coming from a famous game.

You deserve to have your account perma-banned. He is asking a valid and serious question that needs to be addressed.

And while telling people to kill themselves is wrong, guess what, rito doesn't care about any of you or this thread. Sorry, but it's the truth.

So far the vibe I get is no they don't take it serous at all because they feel the words are harmless even if they sound harsh. And in my view that's pretty bad for a game that goes live as a sport, and has kids playing it as well as adults. So I have a feeling a lot of players are getting away with saying what ever they want for the most part. It is true we can mute, but As I said in my post it only takes that one person to take what another said's to heart, and it goes very bad.

You have a very valid point. There are plenty of teenagers battling depression, especially in NA. What if one of these kids played badly in a game and the teammate calling them so bad they should kill themselves IS the last straw? What if the kid takes the plunge? How could Riot not take this seriously considering their game is so public and the whole eSports movement?

Thank you for pointing out people out there battling depression. I know many out there that play League may not care much for my post, but no matter what they say it is still possible for one person out there to do some thing bad to them self's or others because of what another player said's and I don't think riot should even risk that happening even if its a low chance.

Wasting logic on no-life trolls is a pointless endeavor.

But you do make an excellent point.

its not just in this game the real world at least here in the us if you get a death threat in the mail and report it the cops cant do anything but invetgate which ussaly does nothing wishing death on another isnt something you should do lightly

Very true, but with the new tech world we live in its pretty easy to lock on to those people, and deal with the issue. Another thing is this is a computer world. Stopping a player from typing stuff is easy as a few clicks of the mouse in the world we live in vs a letter in the mail which is not the same.

causeimdabatman3 votes

How about, and don't be a retard and read this like one, how about we get rid of the report system and if you can't handle toxic kids you mute them or get off this game. In the real fucking world you'll have to deal with people who are worse then the kids on league. Stop asking riot to baby you like a fucking child. If you get butthurt by someone telling you to kill yourself or that your bad you obviously have paper skin and shouldn't be allowed to play this game because you'll never make it in the real world.

WastelandKittah1 votes

Hey look another toxic troll ill be blocking as soon as i log in! I do so love that we need to use our in game names now. You will be ban eventually its only a matter of time, just look at this guys posting history, nothing but cancer and e tuff guy behavior, your what brings down this community and until you learn some basic social skills kid you will not have a place in it. I hope everyone simply reports you and lets the system do the work as you no doubt act like this in game.

Gallowgrim1 votes

How about we get rid of you, because your attitude is ridiculous and childish.

ADULTS do not act this way

Ash Lockheart2 votes

Wow

Ash Lockheart2 votes

Now I hope I am wrong, and riot does take that stuff very serious, and does shut those kind of players down fast so there is no risk what so ever, But if they say we want to give those players more chances then that means they are not that concerned about the risk of that one person out there that listens to those bad players and does some thing very very bad. So ether way. I hope my vibe is wrong.

I have 3 reasons why my post is Important.

  1. The safety of all the players

  2. I like the game League of Legends and I don't want the game to get a bad rep

  3. Every player should feel that riot cares about them and there views.

The title of your thread is incredibly misleading.

A death threat is deadly serious and not a joke. Its a thing more like "I'm going to find out who you are, find out where you live, and burn your house down." Those are the sorts of things which are scary, and unacceptable, and require serious attention.

Telling someone "go kill yourself" is an insulting dismissal. It's like telling someone "go f*** yourself" or "go fly a kite" or "go get kidnapped by aliens" league. It's not a particularly kind thing to say, but to put it in the same category as a death threat is not only an insult to people's intelligence, but is a distraction from serious remarks and serious threats.

In this world, there will be times where people will say things that you don't like, sometimes even hurtful things. My advice to you would be to recognize that their comments are an act of frustration and futility as, generally speaking, they are completely impotent and can only rage at you pointlessly in an attempt to get a rise out of you.

Edit: Something I completely missed there - LoL is not a sport.

Well I get your advice, how ever I did say in my post that I want to know how serious riot takes what players say because one day there might be a player that plays and takes what another player said's to heart. You may not ever be affected by what players say, but that does not mean at all that a player out there will not be affected by what another player said's. I don't let what other's say bother me, but thanks for your concern.

LoL is not a sport...? Oh okay... So the 300K+ Viewers watching from dozens of countries over the world on an almost nightly basis... broadcasted in countless languages.... is not a sport.... Oh OKAY. You are beyond a troll my friend.

I try not to take it seriously, but whenever someone says something like that to me it resonates for a long time. Imagine if the player who received the death threat was depressed already. So yeah anyone who says something like that should be banned for a loooooong time or permabanned.

If it's from Veigar i take them quite seriously. I don't want to die in 1 button press with nothing i can do about it

I actually believe that u dont go in an online game expecting everyone to be all nice to u and stuff. If u cant handle people saying "go die" or whatever, DONT PLAY THE GAME like holy fk... Use some common sense

If you're depressed you shouldn't be playing LoL. That or u can just mute everyone if u know u cant handle these types of things. LOL

I feel no sympathy for people who do nothing to prevent their own faults. "Im super sensitive to words, so i'll just leave a toxic community unmuted" See what i mean?

Gallowgrim2 votes

I believe if you can't be mature enough to know such shit is unacceptable, you belong banned from both LoL and the internet.

If not society altogether.

Lt Cuddles2 votes

I usually don't take it serious, seeing that "go kill urself" is coming from an emotionally stunted 13 year old who probably has not had any sort of real challenge or struggle in his/her life, so they whine and scream when the slightest thing doesn't go their way, simply because no-one has disciplined them enough. To the many children going through "depression" I can say that only a fraction of you understand what true depression is, most of the others who say they are depressed probably don't get out enough to make friends and are lonely, don't take good care of themselves, so they walk around with a shitty diet, and don't get much of any exercise, either. It all adds up to just feeling like shit wall-to-wall, not quite depression, but still an awful feeling, and alot of kids tend to confuse it at an early age, I am not saying there aren't actually depressed teens out there, just only pointing out how people can mix it up at times.

If not a troll, I want you, after your next game, to look next to everyone's names in the post game screen. See the exclamation point? Click it. It will be your friend.

If you all don't like the post feel free not to add to it so it can be put in the back, but just adding comments only makes it stay up. I feel the subject is important because I see many players being very harsh to others in matches, and its wrong, and there are some things that are said that should be taken serious. I also see many players proving my concern on this post as well.

Riot or anyone listening is this ok to happen in game? Why is this allowed to happen? Why not take chat out of the game we just need pings to communicate anyways and maybe add pictures off dragon and baron as emotes.
