Heimerdinger's turret interaction with inhibs

Seems like i can get heims turrets to fire on inhibs sometimes but not all the time. I don't know if this is just weird pet interactions with inhibs (if they are even coded as pets) or what because similar things happen with champs like where their ult's just won't attack inhibs at all. Is there any way to actually get them to attack on command?
