Poppy's Current state (And possibly tanks in general)

Today, I played zed top against a poppy. I understand that Tanks are meant to counter Assassins, but I was 5-0 to this poppy, and she comes back into lane with Armor boots, and a Frozen Gauntlet. I try to combo her with ult and everything when she is low enough, but becuase of the armor stack I can't quite kill her which makes sense. But immediately after this. She wall slams me 2 times, with Q follow ups, and I die. If a 0-5 poppy can build 2 tank items and immediately win lane against an AD assassin, then why play assassins anymore when tanks can just buy defense and automatically do more damage in trades.

Something to think about: If I trade her, her armor counters everything, but her damage is still coming through because of base damage. So in all actuality, she buys tank with her money, I buy damage with my money, and everything I just spent my money on is now worthless. Why not build everyone full tank now?

You have a valid point, and tanks are incredibly strong in this meta.

With that being said, you're using a bad example. If you get stunned by Poppy, you made a mistake. Honestly, if you were up five kills, a level advantage, and a CS advantage, and you died, you got outplayed hard. Regardless of champions, or matchups.

Why doesn't everyone build full tank? Because of how certain scalings work (though some champions abused this and that lead to item nerfs).

How much armor pen did you build? Buying straight damage against straight defense doesn't work out very well. Taking into account that you're reasonably squishy if focused well enough, and a tank can shut you down pretty hard if you don't get away.

As Zed you really have no excuse for letting Poppy get close to you.

Why did you even lane vs her? With an AD assassin....

Do you not know how her W works? Like I feel like you picked badly here. Watch me delete a champion who builds nothing but HP and armor. With any AD assassin build you are never going to get Poppy below 200 armor. Like you couldn't even base kill her if you wanted to. Especially with armor pen being so weak.

Poppy is of the few tank champions that can actually do that, though, since few can stack armor and still deal enough damage to finish off an assassin before their mobility lets them get away. She has resistance buffs, so she can afford to stack armor and actually last long enough to take on an assassin. I'd say the current state of tanks is that they have high base damage and accompanying low stat scalings to encourage building tank for the late game. Unfortunately tank items are very abusable, so to make tanks worth playing with mediocre tank itemization, they have to compensate when building a tank's kit.
