Bans should NOT exist in Solo Que

Like... You don't really have a plan with your team when you go in. So you're banning the "op" Champions. However, that's not what Ban phase is really about. It's more about banning the Champs that'd majorly fuck up your team comp that you had planned.

Due to banning the "OP" Champions players actually become worse in a sense. Like if you always ban Zed, then he slips through you won't know what to do. Since you always banned him and never played against him.

Bans are just making players worse.

If you don't want to ban, play blind pick normals. It's that simple. The whole point of the game mode is to mimic competitive play, and in competitive play they have bans.

No, that's what ranked teams are for. Solo Que is just a ranking system.

Like I said, there's always blind pick for you. Even if it's not as well thought out as in the LCS, bans let you control the game a little more, and the whole point to the draft game mode is pre game strategy. Seriously, try blind pick. It seems to be what you're looking for.

Pretty sure this wants to play ranked...

It doesn't sound like he really does. He might want the bragging rights that come with whatever rank he earns, but his actual play preferences? My advice to him is to stop playing a mode he doesn't want to play just to say he's X rank, and to play a mode he'd actually enjoy. That's the whole reason we have multiple game modes in the first place.

I know a friend who loves to 1v1 me, and his mains are just Yasuo Zed . Was playing draft game with him, and banned his only two mains, and I spent the rest of my 20+ minutes listening to him saying "fk u man y u do dis" and got plenty of savouring kills. :) Bans R Great.

You have an argument. Its flawed, but its an argument.

The bans aren't making anyone worse... It is strategy. Just like picking a team comp.

Being a bad player and not knowing how to handle a matchup is no excuse.

I'm not trying to be negative towards your post, but bans are a necessary mechanic to battle FoTM overbearing champs that haven't been hit by Rito's nerf hammer. Idk about you, but I sure as hell don't want to play against the same overbearing champs every game.

In Dota, bans are spread between pick phases, allowing teams to try and counter ban the enemy's team strategy (they're going for a deathball comp? Ban Magnus, ban Warlock, etc).

League has no team strategies and the ban phase takes place before anyone picks, so it cannot be used for anything other than banning the OP or annoying champions (or targetted bans in pro games). The only benefit of the ban phase in League is that Riot doesn't need to care as much about balance, but it serves no gameplay purpose. There's a reason ranked play in HotS does not have bans.

If a Champion is overbearing Riot fucked up. There is a reason that there is no Champion with 100% winrate.

In LoL you counter with picks not with bans. I don't think LoL soloq is a great place to search for a perfect teamcomp, ppl pick stuff they are good at because it is best way to grind LP. You can't main 50 champs, you are really good at 3-5 at time. Maybe diamond I and up can play more up to their full potential but they rarely do.

Maybe its easier to have teamcomps in Dota because its easier to master certain champions?

lostbob1171 votes

That's my exact point, you won't build a pre-hand teamcomp. Bans are pretty needless beyond that for their intended need.

Why would I not be able to ban Riven if I play top and I know she is one tough nut to crack. Why I would not ban Janna if my team wants to go with amumu, why I would not ban Lee If I want to jungle as WW or Yi? Your point is bans are worthless but many times we will ban things that are just good against our personal picks. Its perfectly fine although I do admit, ban phase in Dota 2 is superior and more interesting especially on professional lvl.

lostbob1171 votes

I believe that I have not called banning worthless. I just don't think it belongs in Solo Q.

Hard Penetrator1 votes

If it isn't worthless in your opinion why would you want to get rid of it. You don't throw out things that are useful.

If ppl ban ONLY op picks why ppl ban different champions at different elo?

I will tell you that banning champions you have problems with can potentially help you win your lane and carry your team.

lostbob1171 votes

Because it doesn't belong in that kind of enviroment of play.

I ban things that who I intend to play is weak too.

In theory, not being able to ban the OP champs means you could play them, and the other team has the same opportunity to play them.

I don't think it would unbalance things.

There just doesn't seem a compelling reason to change it? SoloQ probably doesn't have a strategy, but if the stars align you never know maybe the best random team ever could form one in a hurry (but don't hold your breath on that happening!).

The game isn't really made better by such a change.

You're right actually. That's how it should be. Like if you have a poke comp and there's this champ that has insane gap closers and damage. Then that champion should be banned. The problem is that a handful of champions are causing more issues than those few that could ruin your teamcomp.

However, removing the banning phase would just create huge problems. All you would see are the same champions over and over again in every lane.

Bans are a way for riot to see who the player base considers OP.
