Katarina and her Daggers

The daggers are the 1 thing that is actually OP about katarina. they have a base damage up to 287, with a 100% AD scaling and a 55/70/85/100% AP scaling.

So we have an AP assassin with a 100% AD scaling..... why..... just why... hey lets give a 100% ad scaling Ahri's Foxfire! Cause thats a great idea!!!!

Second. a 100% AP scaling on an AP ASSASSIN (Assassins build very squishy and it makes it so that they end up with a shit ton of AP)

Third it gives a 74/84/90/96% CD reduction to her Shunpo.

The abilities outside of the daggers are fine. the problem with the daggers is that they just do too much. not just too much damage. JUST TOO MUCH EVERYTHING!

100% AP scalings are just dumb. simple as that. And she is an AP Assassin. why does she have AD scalings........ The shunpo reduction would be fine if the daggers werent so absurd.

Its also dumb that with her scalings you can actually build Hexdrinker as a strong oh shit item vs Syndra. Instead of having to wait and spend a ton of gold working your way up a Zhonyas you can buy Hexdrinker for some cheap survivability that you make 100% scaling use of.

The thing with the daggers is that you have to actually stand on them for them to be relevant damage-wise.

And she is an AP Assassin. why does she have AD scalings

none of those have 100% scalings on both types of damage. TF has 100% scaling on his W. but no AD scalings anywhere else. and the AP scaling is only 50%

She has Ad scaings, because she can be built ad, Nobody complains about anyone else who had both ad and ap scalings.

and this is because they dont have 100% scalings on both

So? Katarina only builds gunblade as AD.

Some elaboration on your points for your consideration:

The AD scaling on the daggers (and ult) is only bonus AD, but all the abilities in her kit do magic damage. As such, many of the AD items do not work at full value for her (no/low synergy with Lethality, lifesteal, crit). She'll get some auto's in, but not enough to justify a full AD build. On top of that, her primary poke ability (Q) has no AD ratio. I can't say for sure why she has AD scalings in the first case, but they aren't as much of an advantage as they might initially seem.

The 287 base damage is not until level 18. At level 9, it's only 143 base damage, compared to the 195 on her Q, which is ranged and click-lock to the first target. (The passive and Q will probably be dealing similar amounts of total damage at that point, depending on what items you have gotten.) Likewise, the 100% AP scaling does not come into effect until level 16. It starts down at 55%, working its way up at levels 6, 11, and 16.

The daggers are as telegraphed as they are powerful. They are either set up by the Q (in a straight line from her past the initial target) or W (right where she was when she cast it), both of which can be dodged to deny the damage. When there is a lot going on in a teamfight, this can be a bit harder to do because there is so much more to pay attention. I would say that overall the daggers are balanced in terms of power vs counterplay.

The fact that the daggers do so much for her can be a strength, but also a weakness. If your kit has one, you can drop an AOE threat under the dagger (Ziggs E, Lux E, or similar) to basically deny her use of the dagger for either the damage or the shunpo reset, unless she wants to take a bunch of damage in return.

Spending 1300 on a Hexdrinker for 35 MR and a shield and a bit of AD seems like a riskier or just flat weaker buy than spending 720 on a Negatron Cloak for 40 MR (and no shield) that will build into a much more useful Abyssal Scepter later. The Hexdrinker/Maw for more cost will provide more effective HP while the shield is available but will be much less useful overall than an Abyssal Scepter.

May be a late comment, but all you got to do is not be dumb, and dont get cought in her daggers, they have a delay. She excells at punishing your spell cooldowns and snowballing when you int. ~ Katarina main Katarina

literally 2 seasons worth of patches so yea. A little late....... also where did you even find this post.

And Part 2. When i play mid. I play Viktor, TF, and GP. I have no mobility to avoid daggers. Which means if I ever want to actually fight her i have to do so crazy fucking foot work just to avoid getting instakilled.

Just scrolling through old Katarina related stuff, but if she gets behind, don't let her roam. abuse her incomplete kit early. she will normally start q (bouncing blade) and poke you down with it. When its down basically just body block her from farming. blue trinket is good for if you think she is in a bush and you don't want to confront her. she will almost always build GB first, which proves expensive when she cant farm or roam. If she does roam stay close by, but dont be foolish and face check a brush. Keeping a gold card packed up as tf should deture her .
