@Meddler Has there been any discussion about keystones for next season?

Rivuo··52 votes·1,963 views

I mean i wont lie, It does not feel good when thunderlords hits me for 190. Or a 300 fervor from champs that stack it really fast such as KogMaw Warwick Lucian

I think the keystones this season are a complete mess. They do way too much and take away from solo skill a bit.

Like the damage creep everyones talking about? Yeah those are keystone problems.

I miss Havoc. ( Increase damage by 3% ).

How about just get rid of all the stupid fucking item actives and masteries they put in, give damage back to the CHAMPIONS to have, that way when they add a new fucking champion he doesn't destroy everyone because of a mastery that every champion can use.

Put balance back into the champions so its independent balance, not touching every champion in the game if 2 can abuse the mastery to hell, castrate the devil, kill god, make it back in time for dinner, then do it again.

Also this idea that items can give dashes to champions, replicate entire abilities. WTF?

Items are supposed to make the abilities better so the champions get stronger. Not the other way around. How does it make sense for my abilities to make my items better???

First 5 games of s6 i played (since s1 I've been playing) it was a complete trainwreck, and it has never ever been like that. The biggest problems we had before were getting used to trinkets, then they made trinkets less and less complicated to the point where theres no decision making anymore.

Bring back wards. Get rid of the stupid item actives that are better than a lot of the abilities in the game even, its not fucking DOTA. Get rid of the keystones that decide if your champion can be close to viable or not. Bring back the decision making to the game, thats why people liked it. Complicated game with fun simple mechanics. Not complicated mechanics but simple game because theres no brainwork involved anymore.

Situations like "If I stand a little to the left, I can force him to rotate closer to the bush, then I can flash into the bush and double Q" as rengar turned into

Situations like "If I pink ward this bush, he can't ward it, my jungler can come up and instantly kill him with thunderlords and I can follow up with stormraiders"

Said the exact same fucking thing before preseason even ended and everyone was like "its preseason they'll fix it" its only gotten worse.

Mastery changes added absolutely NOTHING to the game. They took away viability of some champions as others stepped into unkillable territory just because their kit synergized with the mastery too well.

Take nasus for example. 1 Q will activate storm raiders. Can't kite him anymore, keeps hitting you, now he withers you as soon as the stormraiders wears off, storm up again, no way at all to kite him.

Take annie for example, her kit before was phenomenal if she could kill you with only 1 rotation, and before it was balanced so that if you got a certain amount of survivability you could survive barely enough to burst her with your own and kill her before her second rotation can get in. Now, pretty much no matter what she will kill you in 1 to 1.5 rotations with thunderlords and the almighty godly item of ludens echo (that makes her faster than you without boots) so now, unless you go straight tank, she will kill you. Then we see lots of problems with annie like "no counter play" even though she used to be as brainless to deal with as she was to play.

Nasus Was a really bad example. He is incredibly weak right now.

The current toplane meta should heavily favor him, but he still isnt picked. He is the worst Juggernaut out of all of them

bill841 votes

Mordekaiser Oh is he now (Q MM)

XxRinkyDinkyxX1 votes

Mordekaiser is preforming better than Nasus at all Elo's.

He actually does his job, that being dishing out high amounts of damage and drawing aggro. Nasus stops doing damage past 35 minutes because he has no viable penetration items, which is really sad for the supposed "hypercarry" of juggernauts.

Why would you risk picking Nasus when you can easily pick Morde, Mundo, or Darius, and do the exact same thing as Nasus, but better, at all stages of the game.

GayFluffyUnicorn1 votes

PLayed him yesterday just for fun. It was an awful experience. I could pick him in any matchup even if it is a hard counter i could atleast farm freely. But yesterday i just got towerdived over and over again and couldn't do shit against it. From lvl 6 on until the end of the game.

Papa Slothy1 votes

he is VERY weak right now but he was just putting it in as an example, if nasus was strong and could farm efficiently against top laners imagine how unkitable he would be

XxRinkyDinkyxX1 votes

My bet is stormraiders is the exact reason he isnt being buffed, I expect preseason changes.

Papa Slothy1 votes

it might well be, I REALLY hope they think carefully next preseason

Poske1 votes

So bassicly you want DEPTH out of League of legends? WoW are you refering to protobelt? That item is good on vladimir AND sort of good on annie t. They even balanced it out since we dont have abilities overlaping and cancels within protobelt

Masteries and runes are here because they are cool and give sense of progress + Make smurfs less wanted Which is really important Runes prevent ultra hard counter auto win matchups. Since you can take a more of defensive aproach yes at that point opomment can also take masteries and runes which counter you But the % of his win chance still declines since you need more help from masteries and runes while he didnt. Its just how math works

Well y they can bring back stealth wards. To bad people will only buy 1 per game if even that (That was the data they gave us when they removed it) even in high elo 1 per player

I have recently Played against a Ranked team Which spammed Pink wards. **TRUST ME ON THIS VISION IN LEAGUE OF LEGENDS IS FINE **

You are generaly overating the Power of keystones. Yes In a preseason Yasuo was obviously broken. Brand finally became viable with DFT and those 2 cases were the most abused ones

Masteries aproximately hold even power to last season masteries Also thunderlord is ultra fking overated. This is just a side note

Your nasus example is really bad. You are suggesting that he is already on his target from the get go

You can put riven in that example to and it ll look bad for the target

Annie Ulti being an instant stun is the only reason anyone would pick annie. So she has to stay a low counterplay hero. I do believe she is stronger then she used to be mainly because of new bear interactions but dmg wise she feels about the same atleast burst is the same Bear interactions might give her more constant dps

She used to be more insane with DFG then with ludens

Give Me Trophies3 votes

The data they gave was completely useless. They took into account every league of legends account.

How anyone can even say "in high elo, 1 per person" when every single game I played in diamond elo had ATLEAST 8 per person back in s3, while it tapered off when they got rid of the vision game in season 4 till now.

New masteries are not "cool" they have no sense of progress (yay level 18?) and they do not have any difference on the occurence of smurf accounts as EASILY over 90% of smurfs farm bots (smurfs being people actually better than normal pre-30 players.) I have no argument against runes as runes are exactly the same so wtf are you talking about.

"It's just how math works." ???????????????????????????????????????????????? What...?

If you only bought 1 per game I feel a bit bad for you LOL.

Vision in League of legends is not fine. That has been stated an argued hundreds of times, many times by pro players and even low level players, and all the way inbetween. Vision is no longer something to get better at anymore. You simply DO IT because the game reminds you and makes it so easy its a non-factor unless you try not to do it.

The power of keystones created a global damage creep that took some champions that were balanced beforehand, who have incredible synergy, now REQUIRE 1 of the 9 masteries. That is no depth. That is a non-choice, and Riot put in variety but with no choice in which you choose, which is the same as before but unfortunately this net-0 change fucked with a lot of core balancing they had been slaving over for the past 6 fucking years.

Yay brand is viable, other champions became unstoppable, then nerfed into the depths of hell to be unplayable, had their builds and kits fucked with for 4 months until they don't even FEEL the same anymore. But hey brand is viable, even though he was pretty okay before. Also, those 2 cases were not the most abused, at all. Jhin, Graves, Katarina, Leblanc, Veigar, Zed, Fizz were INSANELY strong, too much so, and then had to be nerfed or even worse case the entire mastery had to be fucked with to balance the champion, which messed with everyone else.

There is no possible way that the mastery changes were a beneficial change in league of legends at all in comparison to the changes they could've made to the individual champions. They put nothing in the game as theres still no fucking choice what you take before the game unless you are straight up just being unoptimal, which was the case beforehand anyway. Now, they have to balance an even more complicated and tangled game than they had to beforehand.

HOW CAN YOU EVEN SAY THEY HAD EVEN POWER? LOL? WTF? 3% damage was the lvl 21 mastery in offense, and now its lvl 6 LOL?!

Thunderlords is not overrated, it gives you a full level advantage of power on more than half the champions in the game if you have the ability to proc it from range.

Nasus is always on his target, if you aren't then you managed to pick nasus without a single synergizing champion on your team (anyone with any speed boost or CC?) If you can't hit a single Q on an enemy as nasus at the beginning of a fight then maybe you just should stay away from picking him.

Riven is the worst spot shes been in since her release.

Annie is a low counterplay champion so she has to stay a low counterplay champion (Basically what you said)

(WTF.) New bear has not made any difference in any of the 15 games I've played against new Annie. But hey, the extra 300 damage from a mastery sure as fuck helps. Burst is not the same, straight up, look at the numbers, if you add 1 to 3 it doesn't stay 3. Thats just how math works.

Everyone was more insane with DFG, then they took it out in

SEASON 4

Alright, can't lose too many braincells now so I'm gonna just stay off this website forever. Worse than battle.net, seriously. Wtf.

Poske1 votes

No the data they gave us isnt completly useless They And I specificly mentioned that even in high elo People Buy 1 ward per game Now I am 100% sure it was less then 2 wards it might have been 1.75. 0,9 I really dont know

I wouldnt mention that If I only saw data from a divisions who dont even fking know what the stealth ward is

Hey man Breaking news. There is this thing called trinket I think I put like 15 per game (Feel free to check my match history) It replaced Stealth wards. Isnt it obvious? You can always buy pinkwards and Btw pinkwards were outclassing stealth wards. You would only get stealth ward if you hadnt had 100 gold (Old price)

Its not just math its common sense.

If 2 people are in battle 1 has a knife and the other one has nothing but his bare hands If you give each Player a pistol you are evening a playing field obviously a person with a knife still has an advantage . This is what Masteries and runes do. They help with FKING** Hard counter auto win since champion select scenarios **. Without runes and masteries you would just see a bunch Of generalist champions and safe picks like Lulu, Ori, Etc. No1 would ever play riven for example since she has dozen of hard counters

Given that lane swaps are no longer viable as a player who used to force this upon my team when I saw something was countered and we could avoid it. WE NEED RUNES AND MASTERIES while they do buff both sides Side which needs a buff more Likes it more

So I repeat its how math works Do you want some godamn Numbers and equations or you FKING GET IT NOW?

Now Obviously it helps against smurfers. Because they have to grind and thats boring etc

People are so biased when it comes to Damage creep

Damage creep increases The Power budget of champions. Which is good because we Can have more cool characters then So Right of the bat Damage Creep is NOT a Bad thing. And since Riot has been nerfing more then doing anything else since season 1 75% OF CHANGES WERE Nerfs WHO THE FK minds DAMAGE creep. Its not like you are getting one shoted from stealth And 10k range

Brand is no longer viable. Atleast not in midlane Outclassed by syndra veigar and few other champs. But hey atleast he saw some light once keystones got released because Brand wasnt viable since his freaking patch after release nerfs

OH AND Masteries had about even Power since there were more of them. Dude even if the new masteries are like 10% stronger WHO the fk Cares I cant even notice it

Against what Kind Of fking Boosted animals is nasus playing agaisnt If he is always on TARGET. I can easly use the same Stupid argument. Where are the knockbacks speed ups for kiting etc? Do you even logic dude?

Nasus is a juggernaut. Nasus with a SPEED Keystone rofl? Mostlikely a high person which is boosted animal in the same time. I never saw so boosted choise in EU but hey You are in NA so w/e

If you think that the godamn speed keystone breaks champions while being the worst keystone we can choose from then IDK dude

Le bl Never abused keystones. Zed didnt either sorry biased zed mains you would proc this thunderlord on me once every 15 minutes such worth and then when you did I was already dead anyway. Veigar also didnt abuse masteries Period

Zed was just in generaly OP because Riot decided to GUT the ap itemization. I am not saying Ap itemization didnt deserve that because it did

There are Chall Riven OTPs out there so she isnt in that bad spot. I do agree that she is nothing like she was on release But hey If people with this mechanics could play release riven she would have 60% winrate

Yay annie gained Luden echo. You do realise if you are playing Mid and you are starting WITH LUDENS ECHO unless you are katarina Its likely that you are bad at league

She lost fking DFG. She gained a worse burst item who cares

Are you saying that annie isnt balanced? Are you claiming that she is OP because of the trash thunderlord? Well the rework didnt add counterplay but Riot wants annie to be low counterplay champions SINCE THATS THE ONLY WAY SHE LL SEE PLAY IN HIGH ELO WHILE BEING BEGGINER CHAMPION

GayFluffyUnicorn1 votes

The vision is fine? It is fine when suddenly out of nowhere i get hooked from blitz/thresh support in midlane because i COULD NOT ward i was NOT ALLOWED to ward anymore and my botlane doesn't give a crap about wards or pings? MY excessive use of wards is what made me win most of my match ups since the enemy could never rely on his teammates to gank me it was basically impossible. Now i'm at the mercy of my team+ the enemy jungler in hoping he was stupid enough to not smite his wraith camp otherwise i can hug my tower for the next 2 minutes. I can have a maximum of three wards online when there are possibly 6-8 spots where i can get ganked from. Great. Nice game. Vision is everything else than fine. People still don't ward anything. I'm mostly the one with the most wards placed overall right after our supporter. Some games when i look them up afterwards i have teammates with 1 ward in a 40 min game. No thank u, let me buy wards again or give me the possibility of buying three pink wards. Currently u use 75 gold, come to lane, ward, three seconds later jungle shows up---> walk back to your tower and pray they don't towerdive u because towers are still weak as fuck.

Poske1 votes

Climb to an elo where people are actually good

If you need to have 6-8 wards live around your lane you are essentially gaining 0 GOLD PER WAVE

I main Mid. I am fine with having 1 ward but ussualy the jungler gives me 1 more

Make the trees do what they should be doing, what they used to do. A damage tree with mixed damage/some sustain, a mage tree with utility and a tank tree (tanks don't need extra shit if they structure it properly like the old one)

Not this ADC tree with mixed damage and sustain, ADC tree with utility and ADC tree with sustain/beef. Funny how riot tried to force diversity down bot with mordekaiser while utilizing the masteries for marksman.

The tip of the issue though, is riots mindset about diversity. Keystones are like boot enchantments, they will never add more diversity than already exists. That's because most don't pick the best one, we pick the least shit one. Why else would all 3 ferocity keystones and tld be the most common? Cos they're diverse on their own and provide stupid amounts of free damage, while all of the others are extremely niche. 2 support masteries, a bruiser mastery, some wacko assassin mastery and one specifically for the jungle. They're nothing special, boring free damage. There is no best one, only several least shit ones.

We didn't pick alacrity because it was AWESOME! We picked it because fervor and captain sucked balls and distortion was summoner reliant.

Swiftstrike44 votes

I think the resolve tree should be reassessed. It is by far the weakest of the three trees with only a few really good masteries for tanks.

LostFr0st2 votes

I think Bond is the only kinda bad one, but strength is really nice. Grasp could use some tweaks but I'm not sure how to fix that one.

Zane Zephyr3 votes

bond and Grasp have been nerfed a few times so now they're relatively shitty

LostFr0st3 votes

Yeah, It's to the point where the sustain mastery needed to be worked into damage and the bond one nerfed to the point of irrelevancy except if you're Ali on 4+ people.

TheOvermind3 votes

The game was never balanced around keystones.

Keystones basically added a lot of free damage to everyone's kits, that just wasn't there before.

The keystones themselves don't make sense; they re basically parts of other champions passives or items ( fervor is like a rageblade, dft is fizz w, stormraiders and tld are basically Ekkos passive split up, warlords is sanguine blade, sota is sions w passive etc)

They were created as an attempt to help " define " your champion through your keystone but all they do really is either provide an uneccesary numerical boost/buff to a champions ability ( eg shield boost on lulu and janna , tld on Morgana and anivia Aoe, dft on brand and awain dots) OR nullify the champions weaknesses (eg darius with stormraiders or Nidalee with sota or malphite with grasp)

The Taco Kat3 votes

As a Katarina main, these Keystones feel like small blessings, but they are so damn toxic to actually have in the game. I honestly miss the old masteries, even if they lacked in visual power, they didn't affect the game in such a drastic way that they were consistently nerfed.

Keevalroy1 votes

They added enough to mean something, but not enough that it was obvious - just like most runes. They just add a little bit of power without being overbearing like Keystones.

I hope they ignore circle jerking like damage creep.

AmetDeCrypt1 votes

I'm pretty sure nasus and tryndamere are the sole reasons the resolve tree isn't allowed to have sustain. but then again they do go around ruining the game for most of the other champions anyway so it's not new.

Papa Slothy1 votes

the problem is they wanted to implement masteries that had a very noticeable high-impact effect, but in doing that they just added something else to take into account when balancing a champion, it also made champions that were balanced insane (like those damage tanks we all love)

I think masteries next season should be much less impactful, similar to last season
