If the enemy team has an assassin and your teammates can't react fast enough before you die and you need a defensive item:
It gives your team adequate time to peel and damage and the assassin has to back off. It's a great item, keeps your HP up fairly high and gives you the defense you need. Honestly, it's a mage item, but it ain't a bad pick me up on adcs. It's also up 3x more than GA will ever be.

like why. Do you even know that you need a Dominicks to get throught frontline?

mostly defensive with loads of HP, adds some AD and also makes it much easier to kite

Also, GA is 300 golds cheaper and can be an even worse version of Zhonyas. Zhonyas has a CD of 120 and GA has a CD of 300 seconds. You can use Zhonyas almost 3 times compared to GA. Or, you can just go with Banshee's, but that only protects you from 1 attack.
So, I'd say no, both are not better than Zhonyas. Each has it's niche. And to be frank, I get GA on ADC a lot, but it rarely matters when you get jumped. It's just not that effective on the little glass cannons. I've even stopped building it as much recently.
