Holy crap I learned a lot during this game. Playing with highly organized teams is in a whole different league compared to all of the slugfests that I've been playing recently.

Also, if someone could teach me how to enhance these images, that'd be wonderful. More things to learn today.

In this case you posted the album. Not helpful for emphasizing a single picture. Find the link to the individual picture, add "?noredirect" to the end of the link to ensure it embeds properly without cropping, and it should work out slightly better.

Yet another thread about how unranked games should be about rank.

No. Unranked games should be unranked, which is what this was. The fact that the opposing team outranks you is literally irrelevant because , surprise surprise, its an unranked game.

TS Media2 votes

? I wasn't complaining or anything. ._. I'm just showing how doing well on a new account puts you against people that are far out of your skill level. I'm a silver player playing against diamonds/masters and challenger players at the moment. This is the greatest experience ever and I'm in love with it. You're reading too much into it, but there should still be a limit of who I'm going up against. The skill range is just way too big. It is fine for me, though, because now I'm seeing what high elo is all about and how people play in these conditions.

They might not be playing their "main" roles, but everyone in these games are plat-diamond that I'm playing so the skill level is generally almost, always close together.

Gregor Gysi1 votes

You are a silver player? Really? I have taken a quick look at your op.gg and it seems that your normal MMR is surely plat+ and you seem to be doing well. Not to mention that you won lane against Challenger/Dia4.

TS Media1 votes

Yes, I am silver rank. ^^

I think I have decent mechanics, but very, very poor macro skills. That's why I can't climb out of silver. :/

GaleWinUnleashed9 votes

That just means the results aren't posted for everyone to see. Fair matchmaking should still be a high priority.

"fair matchmaking (Based on rank)" in a system that is literally unranked is like arguing to get a fair, regulated boxing match in a drunken brawl at a sleazy bar.

Unranked is unranked. This means it does not take your rank into consideration. Not only is this not a priority, it is perfectly fine the way it is. Unranked should never be about rank.

I'd prefer to make the analogy of professional basketball compared to a pickup game. In a pickup game, the range of skill levels is probably more varied than it would be in a professional setting, but even so, teams are picked to try and balance the average skill on each side. There's nothing riding on the outcome, so no one really cares about the end result, meaning the primary goal should be to maximize fun for as many players as possible. That means making the teams even so that every player feels like they have a chance of winning.

None of that is relevant because this is neither basketball, nor real life.

This is a video game with a system specifically designed to match players NOT on the basis of rank. You are arguing that unranked should be based on rank, that is absolutely incongruous. If you want rank to be meaningful in the organization of games, play ranked.

GaleWinUnleashed5 votes

There's still an MMR in normal games, and it's still used to find players near your skill level to create relatively balanced teams.

To be perfectly honest, there are essentially no differences between the background mechanisms of Normal queue and Ranked. Ranked simply has the Tier system and LP stuck on top.

I'm really not trying to make an argument about what should or shouldn't be. It simply is.

Dominick Destine1 votes

{quoted}

There's still an MMR in normal games

Is that what OP was referring to? Check the image again.

GaleWinUnleashed3 votes

All that means is that all the Ranked players haven't played Normals for a very long time. They all had similar MMR in Normals because that was sitting still while they did whatever in Ranked.

Normal and Ranked being separate means that even if you get to level 30 playing Normals at about a Bronze MMR, then play exclusively Ranked all the way to Challenger, your next Normal game will still be at that Bronze MMR. Obviously it won't stay there for long once you start playing Normals again, but there will be a good amount of time where your apparent MMR doesn't even come close to matching your actual skill level.

Dominick Destine4 votes

None of that is relevant. Unranked should not take rank into consideration.

GaleWinUnleashed6 votes

Slow down and think about it first. It doesn't make any sense to completely disregard skill level. Diamond+ players make up less than 5% of the total playerbase, meaning that if matches were made completely at random, there would be one Diamond+ player in less than every other game. And they would very likely be the only high-level player in that game, on either team, which would royally screw up the game for everyone else.

Ranked and Normal are entirely separate. Normals does not take RANK into consideration at all. But that does not mean that Normals can't have its own separate measure of skill (doesn't have to be MMR, but in this case it is, the same way Ranked matchmaking works) to use when gathering players to form a relatively balanced game.

well this guy was trying to be nice during the entire conversation, but i can see it hasn't worked. You're about as dense as a neutron star my friend so i'm gonna make this clearer.

This man (OP) was trying to enjoy his leisure time and have fun. He was matched up against 4 diamond ranked players and one challenger. This game was not playing for keeps, it had next to no value, it was all for fun. But what is the value in a game in which it is PAINFULLY OBVIOUS that the entire enemy team has considerably higher level gameplay skill and commendations in their field then any one single person on your team.

It's been beaten into the ground that ranked play doesnt effect unranked match making, but that isn't the point. which you would have gotten if you could give up trying to stress nothing but your own point without haven taken the time to understand why you were even in an argument chain to begin with.

The finest on his team was a plat 5. the worst on the enemy team was a diamond 5 who still looked like a scrub next to a 470 LP Challenger.

So i pose this question to you asshat, since we used this model before. If you were going to play a game of one on one basketball at the local YMCA as your chosen method of enjoying your free time in order to have fun, would you have fun if you opponent was Michael Jordan? And he didn't hold back?

Well what if you said "hey M J, this is a little much. it's supposed to be fun here." to which he replies,"Ok, I'll let LeBron take over" whom doesn't hold back either. and after him is Steph Curry, and after him is Kobe Bryant.

Point being you're a fuckwit if you think that it's perfectly ok to say that unranked play shouldn't be looking at the level of the enemy team's ranked achievement when it's FOUR unranked players and a Plat 5 against FOUR DIAMONDS and a CHALLENGER.

because then it's not a fun, no stress, unranked game. then it's a brutal stomp that is little better than a waste of time for anywhere between 5 and 10 people depending on how much any of them enjoyed it being a one sided, unwholesome slaughter.

So the next time you wanna argue about the rank not mattering, I hope your next 10 games of match up you get ruthelessly DUNKED ON, and then tell me if it matters if the matchmaking gives a damn about fairly balanced teams.

GaleWinUnleashed1 votes

Well thanks for seeing what I was saying. It takes a combination of stupidity, stubbornness, and a refusal to accept the consequences of your actions to get me riled up, but this wasn't really any of those; just a misunderstanding due to my not being completely explicit. The results ended up being somewhat frustrating, but it's not anything serious.

Brain Errör 4042 votes

You say this, but I don't know. I've looked at OPs games and he has a pretty steady stream of players in the plat-diamond divison in almost every game. Some games looks like he's playing in a party and that reduces the overall average of everyone in that game due to him being unranked. His normal mmr is pretty damn high, but if you look at the game where he plays with silver/bronze players he has no one over a silver rating on the other side of the team. I think matchmaking does a pretty decent job of matching ranks together if it isn't solo/duo.

Now, on the other hand, you say that it doesn't take your rank into consideration, but lets look at this "random" op.gg account for a second:

http://na.op.gg/summoner/userName=Milomn

If you take a look at his ranked pairing and his normal pairings, aside from the occasional gold player in 1 or 2 of his games, they're basically the same. You said that it doesn't take "rank" into consideration, but it does to a certain degree. You have a normal mmr separate from a ranked mmr. The op in particular has a fairly high normal mmr, which is why he's seeing an influx of high ranking players. He's also on a steady 50% winrate so his mmr won't be decreasing much either, but I think normal mmr is highly flexible, especially if you're unranked. I do think that your rank has some correlation to who you're matched with in normals.

Some people only play ranks and when they do play normals they may be set in a lower mmr bracket, but after a few games, I'm sure their mmr will skyrocket just because of their rank. This is all just speculation, I don't have any research to back me up, it's basically a gut feeling. I'm gold 2, almost hit plat, but I play lots of plats in my normal games, but last season I was vs silvers and bronze most of the time because I was low silver last season.

PS: @OP, change your name please. I wanna be original.

Rank is not taken into consideration in unranked games.

Brain Errör 4041 votes

Well something has to be going on, because the op is constantly against plats and diamonds. They are both on HIS team and the ENEMY team. There is SOME kind of proper matchmaking going on here.

Toplane Fencer1 votes

There's normals mmr. Plat players probably have a higher normals mmr too, so he gets matched up with them. It's not like rank has any influence in normals matchmaking.

Auroramancer1 votes

I'm a diamond ranked support player.

At what point in my games of League, if I decide I want to dick around in mid lane in a normal game, should I have to face off against other diamond players.

I'm not playing my best roles in normal games, I'm playing normal games to try new things out and learn. I may be diamond support, but my other roles are bronze and silver worthy.

Don't bring ranked MMR to unranked games.

GaleWinUnleashed1 votes

Unfortunately my comment was misinterpreted. I never intended to imply that Ranked and Normals used the same MMR to make games, only that they use identical (but entirely separate) versions of the MMR system.

The picture you posted has you as Lucian and an alistar teemo ahri on your team. The match with the challenger is not the one in the op image

TS Media2 votes

Ah, you're right. Sorry, the game was remade because the ahri never connected.

We faced off against the same team, but with 2 different members:

The Alistar and the Ahri were swapped out. So we got a D2 mid laner instead of an unranked one. Other than that, the matchup was bsically the same. Lulu/Jhin bot vs Lucian/Malphite instead of Lucian/Alistar.

Needless to say, people think that I won lane, when in reality, the Tf really carried the game. ^^

I posted this and didn't update the above image, but I figured a quick op.gg search would be enough to see that the above image of that game was remade and we played them again with 2 different members.
