Why bother with placement matches?

after talking with a few other summoners it appears to me that placement matches mean nothing. I know personally of a summoner going 10 /0 in placement resulting in bronze 3. I went 5/5 and was placed bronze 5. I honestly don't care where I place but just trying to figure out what stats Riot is using. I climbed to silver 5 last season. so you can't tell me you used that into your figures. So i go 5/5 and no I don't expect to be placed in silver but really bronze 5. so everyone who went 5/5 or worse.... ended in bronze 5. I'd just rather you send me to bronze 5 so i don't have to waste my time playing matches that don't mean anything. that was for the flex and since it's new maybe they didn't use any historical data. Course I would question that as well. what do 10 matches tell you that a complete season of 2016 didn't?

It's because many people take a break during preseason. When the season resumes they want to get a quick ballpark of where people have shifted to + the reset.

Those games affect your MMR. If you won more games but still were placed in Bronze 5, you'd have a higher starting MMR and would get more LP per win, making it easier to climb.
